Suggested March 2024 Macbook Pro: Screen Size, Features, Pricing, Specs, Etc

Apple’s premium laptop comes in 13- and 16-inch screen sizes. Each model includes 2-4 USB-C ports for charging, accessories, and data transfer. Higher-end models also include the Touch Bar.

MacBook Pro has been the product name for Apple’s high-end laptop since early 2006 when the transition to Intel processors began. Now, that Pro naming has carried forth as Apple has moved to its own silicon. The latest fourth and fifth-generation Pro Apple notebooks bring dramatically more power with lower heat generation and better battery life thanks to the ARM-based Apple silicon. Keep reading for a brief history of the line and a breakdown of the current lineup.

MacBook Pro history

The first generation MacBook Pro followed in the style of the PowerBook G4 that came before it, but used Intel processors rather than PowerPC chips.

The second generation of the MacBook Pro was the first to really separate itself from the products before, with a unibody enclosure. The third-generation MacBook Pro introduced the retina display as well as MagSafe 2.

Perhaps the most controversial version of the MacBook Pro is the fourth generation. While the third generation received some backlash for the removal of ethernet and the optical drive, the fourth generation was a complete rethinking of the device peripherals. No more MagSafe, no more USB-A ports, and only the 13-inch model kept the function keys. Instead, this redesigned MacBook Pro opted for all Thunderbolt 3 ports and headphone jack. In place of function keys, the MacBook Pro gained an OLED Touch Bar. In late-2024, Apple introduced the M1 chip and updated the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The ARM-based processor brought down power consumption and increased performance.

In October of 2023, Apple introduced the fifth-generation MacBook Pro with not one but two updated versions of the M1 chip, the M1 Pro and M1 Max. The move walked back some of the decisions from the previous generation, adding back an HDMI Port, MagSafe charger, and SD card reader while removing the Touch Bar.

The 2023 13-Inch MacBook Pro

In late 2023, Apple introduced the 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro as the latest update to the fourth-generation MacBook. The MacBook features the same look as previous MacBooks, but like the MacBook Air and Mac Mini, switched to Apple silicon.

Apple’s M1 chip brought ARM architecture to the MacBook line, and this was the first MacBook without an Intel processor.

The M1 chip is a unified design with an 8-core CPU and an 8-core CPU. The processor integrated memory on board, limiting the device to either 8GB or 16GB of unified memory. The 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro is configurable with between 256GB and 2TB of storage and features a Magic Keyboard, rather than the problematic butterfly keyboard.

The price for the 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro starts at $1,299. Upgrading this base configuration to 16GB of memory adds $200 to the price. Likewise, each step above 256GB of storage – 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB – will add $200 to the price. A fully specced out 13-inch MacBook Pro will run you $2,299.

You can configure your own 13-inch MacBook Pro on Apple’s website.

Current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro

In October 2023, Apple brought a brand new design to the MacBook Pro line. Apple increased the screen size on the 13-inch, making it a 14-inch, and shrunk the bezels on the 16-inch. This fifth-generation notebook addressed many complaints of the last generation. MagSafe returned, in the form of an improved MagSafe 3, while the MacBook also regained an HDMI port and an SD-card slot.

Also gone is the Touch Bar. Instead, the standard row of function keys return. The latest MacBooks also bring a ProMotion display that was first introduced on the iPad Pro, with a variable refresh rate and mini-LED backlight.

The 2023 MacBooks aren’t without a controversial feature, as while the display has been made larger there is now a large notch for the 1080P FaceTime camera. While FaceID would have been a nice addition in exchange for this small chunk of the screen, there are some reasons this is not totally practical.

Going with the M1 Max processor means you can configure up to the full 64GB of memory, an $800 upgrade.

You can configure up to 8TB of storage in the 2023 14-inch MacBook Pro. Upgrade costs are as follows:

1TB SSD Storage – $200

16-inch MacBook Pro pricing

The 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,499. There is only one M1 Pro processor available on the 16-inch MacBook, and that’s the highest version 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU version of the M1 Pro processor that is a $300 upgrade on the 14-inch MacBook Pro. Of course, you can also step up to the M1 Max processor with either a 24-core or 32-core GPU, a $200 and $400 upgrade respectively (which also requires the $400 upgrade to 32GB of memory). The memory and storage options are all the same as the 14-inch MacBook Pro.

You can configure your own 16-inch MacBook Pro on Apple’s website.

Differences between 13-inch,14-inch, and 16-inch models

The 2023 MacBook Pro lineup is a refreshing change. The return of ports and physical keys make the laptops more versatile, while additions like an XDR display and hardware acceleration for ProRes improves the experience but is harder to quantify for the average user.

The $1,999 starting price for Apple latest computer is a harder pill to swallow than the $1,300 13-inch Pro from last year. For an average user, the superb M1 MacBook Air will likely suffice (and that sub-$1,000 price is hard to pass up).

But the 2023 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro are exactly what they need to be, a return to function-over-form that will truly meet the needs of professional users.

Deals: M2 Pro Macbook Pro Second

We’re back with another round of Monday’s best discounts. Courtesy of the fine folks over at 9to5Toys, all of the workweek’s best price cuts are all in one place. Leading the way, the second-best prices have landed on Apple’s new M2 Pro MacBook Pros at $149 off to join some official Magic Keyboard and Trackpad markdowns from $140, not to mention this spring Anker Gold Box sale from $10. Hit the jump for all that and more in the latest 9to5Toys Lunch Break.

Apple’s new M2 Pro MacBook Pros land at second-best prices

Apple’s new MacBook Pro comes outfitted with the same form factors as before, centered around a 14-inch Liquid Retina display. From there, you’re looking at mostly under-the-hood improvements that come centered around the latest in Apple Silicon. The M2 Pro processor powers the experience to make this Apple’s most capable portable MacBook yet. There’s an up to 18-hour battery life and Wi-Fi 6E support for the first time to go alongside a new 8K HDMI output and three Thunderbolt 4 ports. There, of course, remains the SDXC slot on the side, as well as all of the other adjustments you can read about in our launch coverage, which also takes a deeper dive into the performance of the new M2 Pro chip.

The savings today also carry over to the larger 16-inch version of Apple’s M2 Pro MacBook Pro. Now dropping down to $2,349.99 at Amazon, today’s offer amounts to the same $149 in savings, as you’ll find above, delivering much of that same second-best price yet status along the way, too. You’re largely getting the same form factor, just with a 16-inch Liquid Retina XDR Display at the center of the experience, alongside an increased 22-hour battery life. Not to mention, there’s the improved 12‑core CPU and 19‑core GPU that provides even more power in the box.

Apple’s official black Magic Keyboard with Touch ID hits $173 all-time low

Amazon is now discounting a pair of black Apple Mac accessories to start off the workweek and give your setup a spring refresh. After being refreshed back in March of last year, we’re now seeing some rare price cuts go live on two of the updated styles of Apple’s popular Magic peripherals, which include free shipping across the board. Leading the way, Apple’s new Black Magic Keyboard with Touch ID is a highlight at $173. While you’d more regularly pay $199, today’s offer arrives to match the all-time low at $26 off. It’s matching that best price ever for only the second time and undercuts the previous discount by an extra $7. Apple’s Magic Keyboard elevates your desktop workstation with a metal build that complements the rest of your devices. This model in particular sports black keys to pair with the brand’s latest scissor key switches underneath. Perfect for pairing with Mac or iPad, there’s a Lightning port on the front and tops off the rechargeable battery, which rounds out the package alongside the built-in Touch ID sensor.

To pair with the lead deal, Amazon is also carrying the savings over to the popular Apple Magic Trackpad, of which the new black style is sitting at $139. You’d more regularly pay $149, with today’s offer selling for the second-best discount we’ve seen to date. It fell to $120 earlier in the year, but that short-lived discount has only arrived once before. Magic Trackpad sports an edge-to-edge glass surface in black, which enables Multi-Touch gestures alongside Force Touch support. It recharges over Lightning and includes a woven USB-C cable in the box.

Anker Gold Box sale has favorite charging accessories

Today only as part of its Gold Box Deals of the Day, Amazon offers up to 50% off a variety of Anker charging accessories starting at $10. Headlining all of the price cuts this time around, the new GaNPrime PowerCore 65W is a standout offer at $69.99. Normally fetching $100, you’re looking at 30% in savings alongside one of the first chances to save since its debut late last fall. This undercuts our previous mention by $10 and matches the all-time low set just once before.

Anker’s new GaNPrime PowerCore 65W arrives as a hybrid charger for your Apple set that combines a USB-C GaN wall adapter with a portable battery. Its 65W output can be spread over its dual USB-C ports, as well as a USB-A slot and leverages the built-in 10,000mAh internal battery to refuel away from home. I adore the built-in AC plug that also makes recharging a breeze. Our Tested with 9to5Toys review offers a closer look at what to expect.

Spring saves take $30 off Eve’s latest Aqua HomeKit faucet with Thread

After first launching back last August, the new Eve Aqua Smart Water Controller is now on sale for one of the very first times. Courtesy of Amazon, the new Thread-enabled model is sitting at $120. Down from the usual $150 price tag, you’re looking at $30 in savings as well as one of the first discounts of the year. It’s $10 under our previous mention, a new all-time low, and a well-timed discount with getting your lawn in order on the mind. Packed into a refreshed design, Eve Aqua seeks to automate your sprinkler or outdoor faucet with the help of Siri this spring and beyond. On top of the usual HomeKit integration we see from the brand, there’s also Thread connectivity to complement its Bluetooth capacities. This time around the upgraded build has a brass faucet connector and magnetic valve to improve durability and protect against leaks, all while helping you automate your lawn maintenance system. Go dive into our launch coverage for a closer look at what to expect.

Belkin’s 15W 2-in-1 MagSafe charging stand at new 2023 low of $70

Amazon is now offering the Belkin MagSafe 2-in-1 MagSafe 15W Charging Stand for $70. Down from $100, you’re now looking at the best price of the year. This clocks in at $15 under our previous mention by delivering the best we’ve seen since back over the holiday season. It’s $5 under the second-best price of 2023, too. Belkin’s 2-in-1 charging stand delivers a place to refuel your iPhone 14, as well as previous-generation 12 or 13 series handset alongside a pair of AirPods or other earbuds thanks to its upright design. Its main 15W MagSafe charger holds up your smartphone above the secondary 5W Qi pad in a streamlined design that won’t take up too much space on your desk or nightstand. You can get a closer look in our launch coverage.

Hp Spectre 13 Unveiled: Tech Specs, Pricing, Ship Date

HP has just announced its new Spectre 13 laptop, the company claims is the thinnest laptop in the world. The new Windows 10 device from HP is gorgeous all around with its aluminum chassis, gray and high gloss copper accents, and carbon fiber base, and it’ll definitely draw enough attention when you use it on a coffee shop.

The company says that it wanted to build a device that had a jewelry-like feeling and it wanted to create a piece of machinery that looks handcrafted.

However, unlike the MacBook featuring an underpowered Core-m processor and only one USB Type-C port, you will get a lot more with the HP Spectre 13 on a thinner design that only weighs 2.5 pounds.

HP Spectre 13 tech specs

The device comes in different models featuring Intel’s sixth-generation Core i5 or Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, up to 512GB storage, 802.11 AC antennas, USB Type-C and even Thunderbolt ports.

In addition, HP is also packing an innovative hybrid battery that splits into two pieces offering up to 9 1/2 hours of battery life on a thinner battery profile. It also integrates Intel’s hyperbaric cooling system that eliminates the need to use a heat sink to keep the processor cool.

One particular uniqueness of the laptop is the hinges design. HP has re-engineered the hinge lift mechanism that is tucked away inside and uses pistons to lift or close the display.

Here are the specs breakdown:

Operating SystemWindows 10

Display13.3-inch (Edge-to-Edge Corning Gorilla Glass)

Resolution1920 x 1080 (166 ppi)

Core i7-6500U

Dimensions12.8-inch x 9.03-inch

Weight2.45 pounds

512GB PCIe-based SSD

Battery9 1/2 hours

Networking2x2 Wi-Fi 802.11 AC

2 Thunderbolt

ChassisCarbon fiber and aluminum

HP Spectre 13 limited edition

Then there are also the more luxury versions of the new laptop from HP. The computer manufacturer has also partnered with world-renowned designers Tord Boontje and Jess Hannah to create two limited edition devices which share the same tech specs as the Spectre 13, but feature 18K gold and diamonds.

The HP Spectre by Jess Hannah features “top and rear completely plated in 18K gold with a highly polished finish. HP’s logo is encrusted with diamonds, each carefully placed by a diamond setter. Even the keyboard deck is plated in 18K gold to match the top cover and the power button is covered with diamonds for sparkling brilliance. The all over gold accented with a hint of sparkling diamonds displays Hannah’s minimalistic design philosophy.”

Then there is the HP Spectre by Dutch-born “that exhibits delicate, intricate and dreamlike patterns across the laptop. The ornate graphic pattern integrates cherry blossoms, graceful florals, a peacock and an exquisite butterfly. The 18K gold plated accents provide rich contrast with the patterns that gently intertwine with embedded Swarovski crystals set in a floral pattern against a deep Midnight Blue.”

Unfortunately, if you have the cash, you may not be able to buy either of this gold-plated models. HP will only be auctioning the laptops off for charity and proceeds will be going to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Alongside with the new devices, HP is also taking the opportunity to unveil its new logo. In the new HP Spectre laptops, you’ll now see four slashes, two large and two short, making up the iconic “HP” wordmark, which is very minimalist.

*Confirmed* Logitech G502 X Plus Release Date, Specs, And Pricing

*CONFIRMED* Logitech G502 X Plus release date, specs, and pricing

Everything you need to know about the upcoming Logitech G502 X Plus

It would seem that the Logitech G502 X Plus is finally on the horizon, with more and more leaks coming out of the woodwork via Reddit and even a mysterious trailer, for the upcoming ergonomic mouse.

So, let’s have a look at what to expect from the as-yet-unannounced G502 X Plus. We’ll cover what we know, what we don’t, and what we want from this update to an all-time fan favorite.

READ NOW: Best gaming mouse 2023

Just now, Logitech has officially announced that the G502 X is available for sale right now. This comes from their official Twitter and is accompanied by a spicy trailer depicting the G502 X as a spaceship.

Additionally, you can now buy the Logitech G502 X from the official Logitech website right now, with other retailers sure to follow suit very soon.

Logitech G502 X Plus specs confirmed

*UPDATED 08/30*

As the mouse has now officially been announced, we can get a look at the actual specs. Find the Logitech G502 X specs below courtesy of Logitech themselves this time, instead of speculation.

These are some very impressive specs, but there are a couple of key points to take away from this list. The first of which is USB Type-C connectivity and charging.

For reasons unknown to mere mortals, Logitech has been continuing to use the now-ancient Micro USB interface for their peripherals, with even the recent Logitech G Pro X Superlight using this old standard.

Another difference worth mentioning is the 106-gram weight. This is a 15-gram weight reduction over the previous G502 Hero, this is particularly good news for those of you who regarded that mouse as a bit of a tank.

The G502 X Plus trailer is currently doing the rounds over at r/MouseReview and, unsurprisingly, r/G502MasterRace. You can view it here, and it revealed a few key Logitech G502 X Plus specs that have got us excited.

If you don’t have the time to watch a dramatic reveal trailer for a mouse, we’ve listed the broad strokes and key points below for your convenience.

Thirteen customizable buttons

New lightsync RGB lighting with 8 distinct lighting zones

Lightforce optical hybrid switches

Updated lightspeed wireless connectivity

Increased speed (We think this is referring to polling rate)

HERO 25K sensor

Logitech Powerplay compatible

White or black colorways

From these features, and the new name, we can see that Logitech is positioning the G502 X Plus as the zenith of the G502 product line, incorporating all previous features, while adding improvements too.

Logitech teases G502 X Plus

Just today, Logitech has given us a teaser of the new mouse via a gif showing a sort of abstract mouse shape exploding then coming back together like some Edge of Tomorrow type stuff.

Razer Basilisk V3 Pro

Focus Pro 30K Optical Sensor

Logitech G502 X Plus vs Razer Basilisk V3 Pro

The G502 line of gaming mice has always been compared to Razer’s Basilisk line. This makes sense as both have a highly ergonomic right-handed shape, shift buttons, and unconventional scroll wheel designs.

READ NOW: Razer Basilisk V3 Pro review

This means that the timing of the trailer and the surrounding leaks probably aren’t a consequence as Razer only just released the Basilisk V3 Pro, so we think that Logitech is going to announce the G502 X Plus soon in order to steal a bit of Team Green’s thunder. So, seeing as you might be trying to pick between the two, let’s have a look at how they compare.

Possibly the biggest difference between the Logitech G502 X Plus vs the Razer Basilisk V3 Pro is the buttons. It might seem insignificant, but a hallmark of the G502 form has always been the 2 additional buttons along the outside edge of the left mouse button.

Logitech G502 X Plus Weight

Again, we haven’t heard anything official, but we’ve seen some pretty convincing leaks from Reddit user u/Nepuca, these leaks include a lot of imagery and even a video of them weighing the mouse.

If this video is to be believed, the G502 X Plus weight is 104g. This would put it in front of the Basilisk V3 Pro which we measured at 116g. This is a 12g difference which might not sound like a lot, but when it comes to mouse enthusiasts, the tiny metric matter a lot. Why do you think manufacturers like Cooler Master and Glorious go to such skeletonized, honeycombed lengths to cut the weight of their mice?

Logitech G502 X Plus vs Razer Basilisk V3 Pro design

The two mouse designs have gone tit-for-tat for years now, with neither being known to have an objectively better design than the other. That being said, the New G502 X Plus is looking pretty fresh from these images.

The biggest difference over the previous versions that we can see from these images is the lighting on the palm section. If you’ve ever seen J.J. Abram’s Star Trek movies, this mouse bears a suspicious amount of resemblance to the bridge of the USS Enterprise.

Contrasting the above images of the G502 X Plus vs Razer Basilisk V3 Pro photography from our full review gives a better idea of the similarities and differences.

Overall, we actually prefer the G502 X Plus vs the Basilisk V3 Pro. We’ve always been a bit ambivalent toward Razer’s triple snake logo, and honestly, it’s starting to look a little dated these days.

What we want to see from the Logitech G502 X Plus

As long-time fans of Logitech, and experienced users of the G502 series of gaming mice, we are excited the G502 mice aren’t perfect, so here are a few changes we hope that Logitech has implemented in the New Logitech G502 X Plus.

Less weight

Logitech already ships the Current flock of G502 mice with a number of weights that can be added to the mouse in 2-gram increments. We see no reason why they couldn’t apply the weight-saving measures we saw on the G Pro X Superlight to the G502.

This would result in a lightweight mouse, by default, with the ability to increase the weight as the user in question saw fit.

Scroll wheel

If Logitech wants to continue competing with Razer in the ergo gaming mouse space, perhaps a similarly innovative scroll wheel could be in order.
