Suggested April 2024 How To Use Siri Shortcuts To Replace Ios App Icons

Apple’s Shortcuts app continues to impress with a seemingly endless array of capabilities. Want to set a reminder to brush your teeth or get directions to your next event? Shortcuts, the … shortcut.

One of the most popular apps, Shortcuts is a quick and easy way to fine-tune your home screen. As Apple has long been against personalized customization on your smartphone, this workaround is the answer.

Basically, this shortcut creates a new button for your favorite app, say Facebook, and swaps out the traditional icon with something else of your choosing. You can swap it out with any other icon from the app store or upload your own icon. This might look complicated, but once you knock out the first two icons, it’s hard to stop until every app looks different.

Getting Started

The most important step to get started is to install the Shortcuts app on your device. That’s easily done by opening this Shortcuts link from your iPhone. Easy so far, right? Now, in the Shortcuts app, tap the shortcut, and you’ll see a menu pop up like the one pictured below.

Let’s go on to the second option, “Launch App URL scheme,” by selecting it.

URL Scheme Add a Command Title

After adding the scheme, the Shortcuts app will ask you to enter a “command title.” Again, this is just a really technical way of asking what you’d like to call the new app. You can call it Twitter, or you can call it “The Good Place,” “Jack’s Creation” or “My Favorite App.” Whatever you want to call it, type it now.

The Hunt for Icons

We’re past most of the technical stuff and moving into the fun part. The next popup you’ll see in the app wants you to search the app store for any icon you want to use. You can search the iOS App Store or the Mac App Store. In your case, let’s search for “Twitter” and hit Done. You’ll see a list of most of the Twitter apps currently available on the App Store. The Twitterrific app icon looks nice, so let’s select that one. From here you can move on to the next step or go back and start over to find a different icon.

Add to Home Screen

This step is pretty straightforward thanks to Apple adding the instructions right on the screen. Tap the “Share” button, then hit ”Add to Home Screen,” and Safari takes care of the rest. Go back to your home screen, and you’ll see the new icon, and it’s beautiful.

There’s a small caveat to this whole process. As the app requires the use of the Shortcuts app to create the custom icon, tapping on the icon opens the Shortcuts app before opening the app you want. In other words, once you hit your icon, there’s a two to three-second delay before Twitter will open. It’s a small price to pay for the ability to customize your home screen, even if it’s not officially supported by Apple.

Wait, There’s More

The aforementioned instructions are excellent if you just want to open the Twitter app. What if you want to open the app directly to compose a new tweet? That’s as easy as repeating all the instructions, except this time your “scheme” URL will be “twitter://new.” That’s just glancing the surface of what the Shortcuts app can do overall. How to Turn Off Shortcut Notifications on iOS 15

Well, it’s tricky but it is easily possible. Check our guide below for this.

How to change app icons without the Shortcuts app

If you wish to change app icons without the Shortcuts app then you can use a third-party app like Launch Center Pro instead. Third-party apps do not use shortcuts to trigger and open apps through custom icons on your device, instead, these apps use a URL-based scheme to open the desired app on your device.

This trick involves using dedicated web links for apps to open the desired ones. Sadly, the ability to add multiple custom icons and to launch system apps using this trick has been patched by Apple.

Hence, you can now only trigger certain actions within the system app using such third-party apps. You can use the link below to get Launch Center Pro on your device and then use the in-app guide to add a custom home screen icon for apps on your home screen.

FAQs

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions that should help answer all your questions about setting custom app icons in iOS 15.

Is it possible to run a Shortcut without launching the Shortcuts app?

Yes, it is now possible to bypass the Shortcuts app as well as the dedicated notification. Use the guide at the top to disable notifications for the Shortcuts app. Once your notifications are disabled, you will no longer be redirected to the Shortcuts app nor will you get notifications for the same. Additionally, opening apps rarely launches the Shortcuts app now, however, if you’re using a unique app then this can help you circumvent this issue.

Can you change system app icons?

Yes, if using the Shortcuts trick, you can easily change system app icons on your device. There is no restriction on choosing apps hence you can change icons for all apps on your system using this trick.

However, if you are using third-party apps like Launch Center Pro, then you will be a bit restricted when it comes to system apps. These apps use the URL trick instead, which has now been restricted by Apple. The trick no longer works for system apps to just open apps. You will need to trigger a certain action.

Thankfully, actions like ‘New Tab’ in Safari and ‘Open Keypad’ for the phone app help achieve the same effect as opening an app.

Can you change app icons without the Shortcuts app?

As discussed above, it is possible to change your app icons with a third-party app if you don’t wish to use the Shortcuts app. However, there are some limitations to this like not being able to control system app actions, or creating multiple icons simultaneously.

The upside to these apps is that you don’t get unnecessary notifications when launching apps from your custom app icons. You can simply turn off the notifications for the third-party app to stop getting unnecessary notifications.

How To Use The Mysql Replace & Query Examples

Introduction to MySQL REPLACE

The MySQL REPLACE function is one of the string functions used to replace all existences of a substring within the main string to result in a new substring.

Start Your Free Data Science Course

Hadoop, Data Science, Statistics & others

The MySQL REPLACE function includes three parameters. The first parameter represents the main string where the replacement will occur. The other two parameters specify the substring to be replaced within the first string and the new substring for replacement.

This task in MySQL makes a case-sensitive function implementation while the string replacement process.

Hence, MySQL allows us to replace an old string with the new one in a column of the database table to perform any handy search and replace the needed one with the existing record value.

Syntax

The MySQL REPLACE function is used with the following syntax:

REPLACE(Original_String, Substring1, Subtring2)

Original_String: This term denotes the main string in which the new one replaces the old string.

Substring1: This is the required occurrence of the substring to be replaced present in the original string.

Substring2: This is the required substring with the help of which a new substring can be replaced from the old one.

How does the REPLACE function work in MySQL?

First, Let us check a simple example to learn the implementation of REPLACEfunction in MySQL. The query is written as follows, where the original string is “VBN” and the substring “B” within “VBN” will be replaced by the new string “X”:

SELECT REPLACE("VBN HJB", "B", "X");

Result:

As per the above query, the valid expression is specified to replace the old string with the new one in the main string. The function executes to replace all the occurrences of the second argument in a specified string using the desired new one.

Thus, Using the REPLACE function in MySQL, we can effectively handle spelling mistakes in columns and perform searches for words that may not be accurate or valid. We can update the records by replacing specific characters with appropriate ones to obtain the desired results.

In this way, for a column value replacement, let us take the statement as follows:

UPDATE Person SET Person_Address = REPLACE(Person_Address,'Jaiput','Jaipur');

This above helps to find all the occurrences of a spelling error in the column of the address of the table person and updates it with the correct one. For the function, the first parameter defines the specified column name without quotes, and the other two denote the substrings, which are responsible for replacing each other to produce a new string.

We should know that if we apply quotes with the field column in the function like ‘Person_Address’, then. As a result, the values of that column will be updated by this ‘Person_Address’. This will cause a sudden data loss of that column in the table.

Note that MySQL REPLACE function will make logical sense only if there exists a Primary Key or a Unique key in the table database so that the function can determine a new row without going through duplicity to make a replacement using indexes of the table; otherwise, it will be corresponding to an INSERT statement.

Also, learn that this function does not upkeep regular expression. If we want to substitute any text string using a specific pattern, we need to use a user-defined MySQL function, i.e., UDF from an external library.

Examples of MySQL REPLACE

We will execute the below queries, which show various ways to use this MySQL REPLACE string function in a database table:

Let us take a basic example of using MySQL REPLACE function:

Code:

Output:

2. Correcting invalid String characters within a word

We are replacing the word ‘Learnint’, correcting a spelling error with the ‘g’ substring, and removing it.

Code:

SELECT REPLACE("Learnint","t", "g");

Output:

3. Replace the substring containing numbers

Let us suppose the below query to replace a specific number string:

Code:

SELECT REPLACE("477", "7", "9");

Output:

4. Replace string using the Column name of a table and SELECT Statement

Considering a sample table named Books, we will use the MySQL REPLACE function in the query to show the string exchange of column values having the substring within it.

Code:

select * from Books;

For example, the query is executed as below to display the result:

Code:

SELECT BookID,BookName,Language, REPLACE(Language, 'English', 'Eng') AS 'Replaced Language' FROM books;

Output:

5. Replace string Example With SELECT & WHERE statement

We are now using the MySQL REPLACE function for a column of the Books table using a SELECT statement and will interchange the book name column string having a substring within the value to a new substring applied to the search. Table Books:

Code:

select * from Books;

The query is below:

Code:

SELECT BOOKID, BOOKNAME, REPLACE(BOOKNAME,'Science','Sci') FROM Books2 WHERE BOOKNAME = 'Nuclear Science';

Output:

6. MySQL REPLACE function with the UPDATE statement

Code:

UPDATE TableName SET ColumnName = REPLACE(ColumnName, Substring1, Substring2) WHERE CondExpr;//condExprs: Conditional expression

For example, taking the sample table Person, we perform the below query:

Code:

UPDATE Books2 SET BOOKNAME = REPLACE(BOOKNAME,'Networking','Computer Network'); select * from Books2;

Output:

Code:

update Books set PRICE = '2000' where BOOKID = 107; select * from Books;

Output:

7. Case Sensitive Error

If we execute the below query in MySQL, then the result will be as follows:

Code:

SELECT REPLACE('APPLE', 'e', 'g');

Output:

In this way, The MySQL REPLACE function supports a case-sensitive search for a string that needs to be replaced, resulting in a new value. So, we must specify valid string expressions on which we want to perform the search and replacement. If not, the result will be the same as the original one.

Conclusion

This article taught us about the MySQL REPLACE function and how to exchange an old string with a new one.

Thus, the MySQL REPLACE function helps to substitute text in a table column for tasks such as interchanging the obsolete link, fixing any spelling error in the database records, etc.

The Windows client lets you change the position of the notification banner, hide banner details by only showing the title of the incoming notification, toggle universal copy and paste (Pro), choose whether you want audible alerts for incoming notifications, toggle quick file sharing, and more.

In the Android app, the Settings menu gives you pretty much all the option that the desktop client does while adding a luscious Dark mode into the mix.

Also, there’s an option to enable end-to-end encryption on both Windows and Android. To enable, you’ll have to set a password, which must be the same on all devices.

How To Change The Size And Style Of Your Android App Icons

When you first get your Android device, one of the first things you do is customize it. You add your favorite apps and change all sorts of things. But after a while, what you changed gets boring, and it’s time for another change. One of the things you may want to change is the icons. Maybe you want to make the icons bigger or smaller or make them look different.

To give your app icons a different look, you’ll need to install a third-party app, but if you like what you see, it’s worth installing. The following apps that’ll help give your phone a new look are free, so if you’re not happy with what you see, you can always uninstall the app.

Change the Icon Size and Shape of any App with Nova Launcher

You can do sorts of things with Nova Launcher, and that includes changing the appearance of your icons. Once you’ve downloaded the app, go to Nova settings. You can access the settings through the app icon that’ll say Settings. Once you’re in, go to Home screen, followed by Icon Layout.

In Icon Layout, you can choose to do all sorts of things to the icon apps. For example, by using the slider, you can change the size of the app icon. Under the label section, you’ll see another slider that will allow you to change the size of the text under the app. If you tap on the dropdown menu under the Font option, you can change the style of the text; for example, you can choose from Normal, Medium, Condensed, and light.

As you make the changes to the rows and icons, you’ll see what it’ll look like in real-time. When you’re finished, don’t forget to tap on the Done button at the bottom right.

Integrated Icon Themes for Samsung Devices

If you have a Samsung device, you can change the icon apps without installing a third-party app. Go to Settings, followed by themes.

At the bottom, tap on the Icon option, and you’ll see a large variety of icon styles. Some will be free while you’ll need to pay for others.

Ume Icon Changer

To give your app icons a complete makeover, you might want to try the Ume Icon Changer. What the app does is that it changes the app icon to the picture you add. The app already comes with some default images, but it also gives you the option to add your own images. When you first open the app, choose an app whose icon you want to change.

The new icon image can be any of the images you see. You can choose from categories such as Nature, Space, Technology, and Sports. To add an image from your device’s gallery, tap on the Gallery option and choose if you want to take a picture or upload one from your device’s gallery. You can also change the shape of the app icon. The options to choose from are:

Circle

Square

RoundSquare

Squircle

Teardrop

The app will show a preview of what your new app icon will look like in real-time. You can also change the name of the app icon. Tap on the pencil icon to the right of the current name and give it a new name. When you’re happy with how the app icon looks, tap on the OK button at the top right.

In the end, you see the option to add your new app icon automatically. But, by dragging it out of its box, you can place it where you want manually.

How To Change App Store Country On Ios 12/11

9.1K

Unlike Android, Apple makes it relatively easy to change App Store country on your iPhone. Most guides on the internet suggest you create a new Apple ID if you want to install iOS apps that aren’t available in your country. However, after the recent iOS update (iOS 11.4) makes it easier for you to simply change your country without logging out of the existing Apple ID.

Before We Begin

If you change your App Store country using the following method, you will lose all your purchase history (not actual purchases though). And if you have an Apple Music subscription, you need to cancel the subscription as well. We also noticed, once we change the region on our iPhone, sometimes the App Store update the US AppStore Apps and sometimes it doesn’t.

With that out the way, I tested this workaround on my iPhone and iPad running the latest iOS 12.1, and it works flawlessly. So, let’s check out how to install geo-restricted apps on your iPhone without changing your Apple ID.

How to Change App Store Country

To get started, head over to Settings page, look for the iTunes & App Store in the list and tap on View Apple ID.

Next, you have to enter your Apple ID password to successfully log-in to the Apple ID. This authenticates the user and allows any change that you make in the account.

Now, you’d see “Country/Region”, tap that and then tap on “Change Country or Region”.

A new screen will pop up, with the list of countries, select the country where you wish to change your region to. For this instance, I’ll switch to the US, since it has the best streaming apps like Hulu, Sling TV, HBO now etc.

Once you tap on the country, a new screen will popup open, asking you to accept an agreement. Accept that by tapping on “Agree”.

Next, you’ll have to fill in a billing address. You can a random US address using Google maps or Fake Address generator website, for PIN code, you can use 10001 (New York). It’s important to tap on None for payment info.

However, this workaround will only apply to free apps and games, as there’s no valid payment associated with your Apple ID. That said, if you want to install paid apps, you can add a US iTunes gift card from chúng tôi or target.

And there you go. Your store region has now been changed.

Now, just head over to the App Store (close it once if it was already open in the background) and search for the apps that were previously not available in your country like – Spotify, Hulu, Pandora etc, and as you can see they show up now. Simply tap on it to install them.

You’d Still Need a VPN

This should work fine for most regular apps, Then again you’d still need a VPN to access most audio and video streaming apps that verify your location.

For example, if I want to listen to Spotify, I’ll first activate the free ProtonVPN and switch to US server. Next, go to Spotify and log in. And there you go. Now, you can listen to your fav music.

However, if you are using HULU or Netflix, the free VPN aren’t going to work as they now implement the technology to detect proxy, so you might have to use paid VPN services like NordVPN or Smart DNS Proxy. We have used the later on Netflix and Hulu and it works fine.

Similarly, if you want to install a geo-restricted streaming app like Sling TV, Netflix, Amazon, prime, Hulu, just download them from App Store using this workaround, turn on VPN and log in. If they ask for location permission, make sure you tap on Don’t allow, and you are good to go.

Change App Store Country on iPhone

So, there you go, that’s how you install geo-restricted apps that are not available in your country. The best part, even if decide to change the region, afterward, it wouldn’t affect the apps you have installed already.
