Suggested March 2024 How To Set Up A Beacon In Minecraft

In Minecraft, a beacon is a craftable block that gives nearby players powerful buffs. These power-ups can make you far stronger and more efficient, but because beacons are so difficult to craft, they’re usually a late-game creation.

In this tutorial, we’ll cover what a beacon is, how you craft one, and how you can use them.

Table of Contents

What Is a Beacon?

A beacon is a block that creates a vertical beam of light that players can see from a distance, acting as a guide back to that location.

Each Minecraft beacon is a single block, but they must be formed into beacon pyramids to be activated. The larger the pyramid, the higher the level of the beacon.

The beacon can provide several status effects to nearby players similar to potions or enchantments. These include five primary powers and two secondary powers. The strength of the status effects is multiplied by the level of the beacon pyramid.

The five primary powers are:

Speed I: Increased movement speed (single-level pyramid).

Haste I: Increased mining and attack speed (single-level pyramid).

Jump Boost I: Increased jump height (2-level pyramid).

Resistance I: Decrease damage taken (2-level pyramid).

Strength I: Increased melee damage (3-level pyramid).

The two secondary powers include:

Regeneration I: Automatically regenerates health (4-level pyramid).

Increase the primary power to level II (multiplying its effect).

Because some of the required materials are difficult to obtain, players usually create beacons late in the game. If you’re struggling to get to the point that you can create one, our Minecraft beginner’s guide might help.

How to Find the Required Materials

To craft a beacon, you need five glass blocks, three obsidian blocks, and one nether star. The first two are easy to get. To obtain glass, add sand to a furnace. To get obsidian, you just need to find some (it occurs where water comes into contact with lava) and mine it using a diamond pickaxe.

The Nether star is one of the rarest materials in Minecraft and is a little harder to get. To find one:

Travel to the Nether using a Nether Portal.

Collect four blocks of soul sand.

Collect three Wither Skeleton skulls. These have a 2.5% chance of dropping from Wither Skeletons, a challenging enemy found inside Nether fortresses.

In the Overworld, create a “T” shape from the soul sand and place the three skulls on top.

The Wither will spawn. Defeat it, and it will drop a Nether star.

Note: We’ve displayed screenshots from the Java Edition, but don’t worry if you’re a console or Minecraft PE player—the ingredients, recipe, and how to activate a beacon are the same in each.

          How to Make a Beacon

Once you have all the materials, making the beacon is easy. Go to your crafting table and add three glass blocks to the top row. On the second row, add one glass, the Nether star, and another glass. On the bottom row, add the three obsidian blocks.

The crafting recipe looks like this:

          How to Activate a Beacon

A beacon on its own is inactive. To activate the beacon, you must place it on top of a pyramid made from any combination of the following materials:

          Iron blocks

          Gold blocks

          Diamond blocks

          Emerald blocks

          Netherite blocks

There are four levels of the pyramid, each of which increases the beacon power and radius of effect:

Level 1: A 3×3 base of 9 total blocks. This has a range of 20 blocks and an effect duration of 11 seconds.

Level 2: A 5×5 base and 3×3 top with a total of 34 blocks. This has a range of 30 blocks and an effect duration of 13 seconds.

Level 3: A 7×7 base, 5×5 middle, and 3×3 top with a total of 83 blocks. This has a range of 40 blocks and an effect duration of 15 seconds.

Level 4: A 9×9 base, 7×7 second layer, 5×5 third layer, and 3×3 top layer with a total of 164 blocks. This has a range of 50 blocks and an effect duration of 17 seconds.

Once the pyramid is ready, simply place your beacon at the top in the center of the pyramid, and it will activate.

The beacon applies the selected powers to all players within the beacon’s range every four seconds. This means that while a player remains in range, the effects are constant. When a player leaves the area-of-effect, the powers continue for the remainder of the effect duration. The best time to leave the effect radius, then, is just after the powers are renewed (i.e. at the next four-second cycle begins).

          How to Use a Beacon

To activate a status effect, you have to feed the beacon either a gold ingot, iron ingot, netherite ingot, diamond, or emerald. To do so:

Add the material into the open slot.

Select the icon of the power you’d like to activate.

The activated status effect can be changed whenever you like; you just have to feed it another item.

To receive every buff, you must create six individual beacons. Your other option is to create a multiple beacon pyramid with a 10×11 base, 8×9 second layer, 6×7 third layer, and 4×5 top layer.

On top of this, beacons are placed in a 2×3 configuration in the center. This provides all six beacon effects from a single structure using the fewest resources possible.

You can customize the beacon however you like, crafting it out of whatever combination of the accepted mineral blocks you want. You can even customize the color of the beacon’s light. To do so, just place a stained glass block on top of the beacon.

            Blinded by the Light

Hopefully, with the help of this step-by-step guide, you are now the proud owner of one of the most sought-after objects in Minecraft. With the beacon’s power-ups, you’ll be ready to take on the Ender dragon in no time.

How To Set Up And Use A Ram Drive In Windows

A RAM drive or a RAM disk is a hard drive made up of your computer’s RAM. It can’t save data permanently, but it’s incredibly fast. If you want to try it out, you can create a RAM drive with free software and without a single computer upgrade. This article will walk through how you can set up and use a RAM drive on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

            Using ImDisk Toolkit

ImDisk Toolkit is an application for managing virtual drives. It also includes a utility that allows the creation of RAM drives.

            Download ImDisk from Sourceforge.net.

Install the application. Be sure to include all the components during the installation.

            Windows 11

Creating a RAM disk with Windows 11 is way faster than with Windows 10, as you get an “installation finished” message as soon as you initiate the ImDisk setup.

            Windows 10

If you’re on Windows 10 continue with the following steps to finish the RAM disk installation and then restart the system once.

Adjust the disk size in the box at the top of the window. We recommend at least 4GB of storage to get a feel for how the disk works.

Then unlock the settings pane with your administrator password.

Fast Startup speeds up the process of turning on your computer by saving a system state between completely off and hibernation to your hard drive. This happens when the computer writes the contents of your RAM to a stable hard drive. As you may guess, this could mess with your RAM drive’s ability to preserve and track its data. With Fast Startup off, boots may take slightly longer, but it’s doubtful that you’ll notice much.

Disabling fast startup will satisfy the warning window, but let’s consider why. This will also allow ImDisk to save your RAM drive’s data to an image file when you shut down your computer. If you don’t, the contents of your RAM drive will be erased completely every time, with no saved image storage. It would also disable the RAM drive’s ability to load the previous content. Basically, the drive would act much more like RAM and much less like a disk. Depending on your use case, that may be disappointing or unusable.

            Using Your RAM Drive

You can access and use it just like any normal hard drive. It shows up in Windows File Explorer just like any other drive.

However, a RAM drive is exponentially faster than traditional types of storage. And we mean exponentially. You can verify it yourself using Anvil’s Storage Utilities, a raw speed comparison tool. In the following test, my Windows device C drive registered an overall score of 77.63 Mbps with average read and write speeds of 40.44 and 37.20 Mbps respectively.

In comparison, the values for ImDisk RAM drive were off the charts with an overall score of 29675.8 Mbps, along with average read and write scores of 21615 and 8080 Mbps respectively.

In most cases, it isn’t feasible to buy more RAM simply to have a bigger RAM disk. However, with between 8GB and 32GB of RAM, you can do some useful things. These include:

Video and photo editing: these processes can be resource-intensive, and more traditional means of storage can create a bottleneck slowing them down.

Gaming: if you have a lot of RAM, you can run some games from your RAM disk. Imagine how smoothly your games would run if you did this.

Statistical modeling: this requires access to data at high speeds. A RAM disk can provide the necessary read/write speeds.

            Precautions and Recommendations

You will need to ensure that data stored on your RAM disk is backed up to an image, of course. Luckily, ImDisk pretty much takes care of this. In addition, if you aren’t using a laptop with a strong battery, you should hook up your PC or laptop to a UPS. This way, if there’s a surge or power outage, you’ll be able to shut down your computer safely without losing data.

Frequently Asked Questions What makes a RAM drive so fast?

RAM drive is fast by definition because it repurposes the computer’s random access memory (RAM) to serve as temporary file storage. In other words, it functions as the software abstraction of a hard drive.

How big can a RAM disk be?

The RAM disk size depends on the amount of RAM your computer has at the moment. Under no condition it can exceed that limit. For safety purposes, it is prudent not to assign more than 50% of your PC’s RAM to serve as a RAM disk. For example, if you have 16GB of RAM on your computer, you can allocate up to 8 GB for the RAM drive.

When should you use a RAM drive?

A RAM drive is most useful for applications where fast data writing and reading is important. It is best suited for highly technical computing tasks where high throughput is mission critical. For example, if you want your computer to perform 3D video rendering, a RAM drive will help you write data much faster than SSD due to faster encoding.

Can you use RAM drive as a boot drive?

Yes, you can use your laptop or PC RAM drive to boot up your operating system, but we don’t recommend it. The process will be very slow because of the volatile nature of this memory option. As your data is lost entirely each time you disconnect RAM drive, it will take a long time to back up your operating system. Also you need to keep your laptop or PC powered on to avoid RAM drive disconnection while booting.

How To Set Up Port Forwarding In Windows

Every now and then you’ll stumble upon an app or game that requires you to do something called “port forwarding.” Without port forwarding, “inbound” traffic and data coming in from the Internet won’t be able to communicate with the app or game, and you won’t be able to carry out certain Internet-based functions of that software. This tutorial shows you how to set up port forwarding in Windows.

Note: you may also need to set up port forwarding on your router, for which we have a separate guide.

Set Up Port Forwarding on Windows

To forward ports in Windows, follow the instructions below:

If you’ve had your PC for a while, you should see a long list of “Rules” in the middle pane, applying to the various apps, services, and software that you allow to deliver traffic to your PC.

You’ll see the protocol type (usually TCP or UDP, though there are various alternatives) as well as the “Local port” – the port in your firewall that you’re allowing the connection through.

The really important one here is the Remote port, which is the port the client (app or software that’s trying to connect with you) is using to connect.

With most apps, as with the images above, a remote port is randomly assigned by the client, so it just defaults to “All ports” on the Windows firewall.

            Create New Port Rules

To create a new port rule, follow these steps:

In the “New Inbound Rule Wizard” window, select “Port,” then tap “Next.”

Select “TCP” or “UDP” and enter the specific port number you want to forward. You can also select “All local ports” or specify an IP address or a range of addresses you want to forward the port to.

Select “Allow the connection” and press “Next.”

After completing these steps, the port should be forwarded to Windows, and any traffic that comes in on that port will be directed to the specified IP address.

Tip: now that you know how to set up port forwarding in Windows, you should also make sure these apps are not on your Windows PC, and look at our assessment of Windows Defender and whether it’s good enough to protect your PC.

Frequently Asked Questions Is Port Forwarding Safe?

Port forwarding is mostly safe, but it is dependent on the security of the server and machine at the other end. If, for example, you’re setting up port forwarding to host an online game, it’s worth quickly checking online whether there are security issues with that game or software.

If you set up, say, an online Minecraft server, then you’ll want to make sure that server’s kept up to date and that you and other users on the server are using firewalls and – ideally – NAT.

The key is to know the software that you’re port forwarding to and that it’s a trusted piece of software.

Can I use port forwarding to improve my Internet speed?

Port forwarding does not directly improve Internet speed. However, it can improve the performance of certain network services, such as online gaming or file sharing, by allowing them to bypass certain network restrictions and firewalls.

What happens if I forward a port that is already being used by another program?

If you forward a port that is already in use, it can cause conflicts and may prevent the other program from functioning properly. It’s important to only forward ports that are not already being used by another program.

How To Set Up And Use A Vpn: A Beginner’s Guide

VPN (Virtual Private Network) sounds like an intimidating term, but anyone who has used one will tell you how easy they are to set up and use. In the past, VPNs were mainly an enterprise-level phenomenon. However, privacy-cautious internet users are now relying on VPNs more than ever.

You can now get a VPN for a much lower price, set it up within minutes, and ensure your connection’s security and privacy.

            Table of Contents

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about setting up and using a VPN.

How Does a VPN Help You?

VPNs can help you with the following things:

Stay Anonymous Online (Always Choose a VPN With a No-Logs Policy)

A VPN with a strict no-logs policy doesn’t collect any data when you’re connected to a VPN server. Once you disconnect, it’s almost as if you were never there.

Major VPNs are usually headquartered in countries with no data retention laws, like the British Virgin Islands and Panama.

            Encrypt Your Internet Traffic

A 2023 FTC report revealed that many ISPs (Internet Service Providers) can be at least as privacy-intrusive as ad platforms. Many ISPs have access to your unencrypted activity and can trace that activity back to you.

It’s not just your ISP that can access a user’s unencrypted traffic. For instance, when using public WiFi, your data may be vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks. If you need to transfer sensitive documents and use online banking using a public network at a cafe, you should use a VPN.

VPNs encrypt your traffic, so anyone who tries to access your online activity won’t be able to decrypt the data even if they get their hands on it.

Access Geo-Blocked Websites or Bypass Censorship

Say you’re going on a trip to the Maldives. You won’t have access to Netflix U.S. or HBO Max when you get there. Opening Netflix will take you to the Maldives library automatically. You can’t binge-watch your favorite Netflix U.S. show from the Maldives, unless you use a VPN.

You can do this by connecting to a U.S.-based VPN server. This will help you acquire a U.S. IP address. When you log into Netflix with a U.S. IP address, the website will think you’re physically located in the U.S. and let you access the U.S. library. You’ll also be able to access platforms like HBO Max that are only available in the U.S. from different countries using a VPN.

You can also use VPNs to bypass government censorship. For instance, if you’re traveling to China but need to access Facebook, you’ll need to bypass China’s Great Firewall using a VPN.

However, not all VPNs can bypass geoblocks or bypass censorship. You’ll need a VPN that can hide the fact that your IP comes from a VPN server.

How to Set Up a VPN

Setting up a VPN is an easy three-step process and doesn’t require technical skills. If you need help choosing a VPN, we discuss that in the next section. We’ll use ExpressVPN to illustrate the setup process.

Sign up for ExpressVPN from its website.

Download the ExpressVPN app for your device and install it. It’s available for all major operating systems, including Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. If you’re on an iPhone/iPad or Android device, you can download the VPN app from the Play Store or the App Store.

Launch ExpressVPN and press the power button to connect to a server. It will automatically connect with the best server location, but you can also choose one yourself from the list.

Network Lock: ExpressVPN calls its kill switch Network Lock. You’d want to keep this enabled so the app can stop all internet traffic if the VPN connection drops abruptly. This will ensure you never access the internet with an unencrypted connection unexpectedly.

Split tunneling: This feature lets you use a VPN connection for specific apps while other apps continue using the unencrypted connection. ExpressVPN lets you create an allowlist (apps that can use the VPN connection) or a blocklist (apps that can’t use the VPN connection).

Once you’ve configured the VPN, you can connect to a VPN server and access websites without worrying about security and privacy.

3 Best VPNs (Free Alternative Included)

There are countless VPN providers, but you’ll want to choose a reliable service to ensure your online security and privacy. We’ve picked the three best VPN services. Two of them were selected based on their feature portfolio and popularity. The third option is a free VPN for those who aren’t looking to spend on a VPN just yet. All listed VPNs have a no-logs policy (they don’t track your activity).

ExpressVPN is currently the best VPN available. It offers top-notch security through VPN protocols like OpenVPN, and its proprietary Lightway protocol, combined with AES-256 encryption.

It bypasses geoblocks on almost all streaming services, including Netflix. Since ExpressVPN offers unlimited bandwidth and excellent connection speeds, you can enjoy buffer-free streaming on your favorite streaming platforms.

Note that a VPN connection will slow down your speeds at least marginally in most cases because your traffic will need to travel through an intermediary server (the VPN server). VPNs may improve your speed in some cases where the ISP has been throttling speeds. You can test speeds using the built-in speed test on ExpressVPN.

ExpressVPN checks all the boxes—it’s fast, secure, and reliable. The only downside is that it’s expensive. If you’re open to spending extra for a premium service, ExpressVPN might be the right VPN for you. There’s no trial, but you can use the 30-day money-back guarantee to claim a full refund if you don’t like ExpressVPN after using it for a few days.

NordVPN comes very close to ExpressVPN in several aspects. It’s almost as fast, secures your internet connection, and offers all the bells and whistles you’ll find on ExpressVPN, like split tunneling.

The VPN works on all major operating systems and allows six simultaneous connections (compared to five on ExpressVPN). However, you can install both VPNs on a router. This allows using the VPN for any number of devices as long as they’re connected to that router.

The best part? NordVPN costs half of ExpressVPN and offers a 30-day money-back guarantee too.

If you’re looking for an even cheaper alternative, consider Surfshark or CyberGhost. Don’t want a paid VPN? Check the next provider.

The best VPN services are the paid ones. While there are tons of free VPN services, most of them are unreliable and insecure, except a few like Windscribe and Tunnelbear.

Windscribe secures your connection just as well as paid VPNs. If you want a free VPN to secure your connection from hackers when using a public WiFi network or hotspots, Windscribe will do that for free.

You can install Windscribe on your computer or a mobile device. It also has a browser extension for all popular browsers, including Chrome.

Windscribe is quite easily the best free VPN available, but the free version comes with limitations. The free version has a 10GB monthly data cap. Plus, the speeds are mediocre at best, and you’ll experience occasional buffering when streaming in HD.

How To Make A Chest In Minecraft

Minecraft is all about resource collection. Whether you are exploring the amazing Minecraft biomes or gathering materials to make a Minecraft house, you will encounter a huge number of items and blocks. Now, you can place most of them in your world and pick them up again. But, if you know how to make a chest in Minecraft, all your items can be safely placed in a single location. Except for beginners, most players already know about the mechanics of this item. So if you want to join the masses, learn how to get and make a chest in Minecraft.

How to Find a Chest in Minecraft

Chests are one of the most basic items in the game, and they spawn throughout the world of Minecraft. You can find a chest in the following locations:

            Dungeons

            Strongholds

            Villages

            Jungle Temples

            Desert Temples

            Nether Fortresses

            End Cities

            Igloos

            Woodland Mansions

            Shipwrecks

            Ocean Ruins

            Buried Treasure

            Pillager Outposts

            Bastion Remnants

            Ruined Portals

            Ancient Cities

While the loot of each natural chest is different in Minecraft, you can pick any chest by breaking it with or without a tool. If you break a chest without emptying out its contents, the stored items drop alongside the chest.

Items Required to Make a Chest

            8 Planks

            Crafting Table

You can use any type of wooden plank to make your chest. They don’t even have to be of the same type of wood. The final chest always looks the same. Though, if you want to challenge yourself, we suggest you get the new bamboo wood for your chests. To get planks, you can place log or wood blocks in the crafting area to easily turn them into planks.

            Minecraft Chest: Crafting Recipe

Follow these steps to easily make a chest in Minecraft:

            2. Then, place the wooden planks in all the cells of the crafting area, except the middle cell. You can use any type of wooden plank here.

How to Make a Double Chest in Minecraft

The crafting recipe we just covered will get you a small chest. It is useable in a variety of ways but many players rely on a large chest as their main storage option. But there is no crafting recipe for a large chest in Minecraft. Instead, you need to make two small chests and place them horizontally next to each other.

The game automatically turns the two small chests into a single large chest. This mechanic doesn’t work with more than two chests. But you can use this method to create as many large chests as you want.

How to Use a Chest in Minecraft 1. Storage

The most obvious way to use a chest in Minecraft is by placing it on the ground and putting your items in it. A small chest has 27 item slots, each of which can hold one stack of any item, totaling a maximum of 1,728 items. Similarly, a large chest has 54 slots that can hold at most 3,456 items.

When it comes to interaction, you can use a piston to push a chest, but this mechanic only works in Minecraft Bedrock edition. Further, lava and water can move around the chests without affecting them. Even if fire shows up on top of the chest, it doesn’t burn it down. All chests in Minecraft are fire and lava-proof. However, they can still be destroyed by blasts of any kind.

            2. Transportation 3. Crafting Other Items

As a crafting ingredient, you can use chests to create the following items in Minecraft:

            Trapped Chest

            Shulker Box

            Hopper

            Boat with Chest

            Raft with Chest

            Minecart with Chest

            4. Christmas Chests

To celebrate the Christmas spirit, every year on December 24–26, the texture of chests in Minecraft changes into wrapped presents. The small chests turn red and golden in color, while the large chests turn green, white, and red in color. This change happens across all editions of Minecraft.

Moreover, you can trigger the Christmas chests by manually changing the date of your computer to December 24–26. However, do keep in mind, this change is only visual and doesn’t affect the mechanics or functionality of chests.

Now that you know how to craft a chest in Minecraft, you can stop worrying about storing items and start collecting them throughout your world. However, if you are playing on one of these best Minecraft survival servers, creating a simple chest might not be enough. Any player can break or steal your chest and its items. If that concerns you, you should make an Ender chest in Minecraft instead of a regular chest.

As companies continue to embrace digital transformation, the need for automation has become more critical than ever before. AI-powered tools can help companies automate tedious and repetitive tasks, freeing up their employees to focus on more strategic initiatives.

Chatbots, in particular, have become incredibly popular for customer service applications. They can handle customer inquiries and support requests around the clock, reducing the need for human intervention. However, while chatbots can be incredibly useful, they still require significant human input to function correctly.

Agent GPT is poised to change this. This autonomous AI agent is designed to automate tasks without any specific prompts or inputs. By feeding Agent GPT its desired name and goals, the AI will take care of the rest, chaining together different LLMs (or “Agents”) to research and produce the desired outcomes.

In this article, we’ll explore what Agent GPT is, how it works, and how you can set it up to streamline your workflow and achieve better results.

Also Useful: How to create your own AutoGPT AI Agent without any coding

As we mentioned earlier, Agent GPT is an autonomous AI agent designed to automate tasks. What sets Agent GPT apart from other AI-powered tools is its ability to learn from its own experiences. By chaining together different LLMs, Agent GPT can plan and execute tasks to achieve set goals. It then scrutinizes the results and thinks of new and better ways to achieve them.

This approach helps Agent GPT produce better and more accurate results over time. With its ability to learn from its own experiences, Agent GPT is poised to revolutionize the way we automate tasks and achieve our goals.

Agent GPT is an AI platform that empowers users to create and deploy independent AI agents for accomplishing various tasks. Auto-GPT is an AI agent that can receive a natural language goal and strive to accomplish it by breaking it into sub-tasks and utilizing internet and other resources. Auto-GPT operates by taking a set of keywords or phrases as input and generating a coherent and pertinent text output that includes the given information. It is a self-prompting AI agent that eliminates the need for creative and detailed prompts and can generate new prompts if it encounters difficulty in completing a task. Both Agent GPT and GodMode are highly user-friendly applications for utilizing AI agents.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to set up and use Agent GPT:

Log in to your OpenAI account using your preferred method.

Copy the API key and save it in a convenient location.

Paste the API key beside the Key text field.

Choose your preferred language from the drop-down menu for Lang.

Choose your preferred GPT model from the drop-down menu for Model.

Note: It is recommended to keep your account topped up with credits before using GPT 4 as it uses a lot of tokens.

Type in your preferred name for the AI Agent beside “Name” at the bottom.

Type your preferred goal beside “Goal” at the bottom.

You can track the AI’s progress in real-time and observe it creating its own tasks to achieve the defined goal.

Auto-GPT is an autonomous AI agent that can function without human input, whereas AgentGPT requires human agents to operate. This means that Auto-GPT can perform tasks on its own, while AgentGPT needs a human operator to create and deploy AI agents.
