Suggested January 2024 How To Run Multiple Instances Of An App On Android & Mac

Most of the time when you install an app on your Mac and Android devices, the app only allows you to use one account at a time on that device. This works just fine when you only hold a single account with that app. But the problem arises when you have multiple accounts and you wish to use them all at the same time on the same device.

One of the ways to do that is to run multiple instances of the app. By default, your device doesn’t offer the option to do this but there is a workaround to make it happen.

Table of Contents

Use Terminal To Run Multiple Copies Of The Same App (Mac)

On a Mac machine, the Terminal app lets you perform a number of tasks using various commands. It includes a command that allows you to run two or more instances of an app on your machine.

That way, you can launch an app multiple times, each with their own independent container. Each instance will be isolated from the others so there won’t be any mixing up of anything.

Here’s how you do it.

Launch the Terminal app from the Launchpad.

The command will open an instance of your chosen app on your Mac. Run the command multiple times to launch multiple instances of that app on your machine.

Launch Multiple Instances Of The Same App Using AppleScript

The Terminal method works just fine but the main drawback of the method is that you need to run the command each time you want to launch an instance of an app.

If you often need multiple instances of an app running at the same time, using Terminal to do the task may not be the ideal way.

Press Command + S to save the script. Enter a name for the script, select Application from the File Format menu, and hit Save.

Now the script you’ve just saved and it’ll do the task for you. You can create the script for any of your apps as all it requires as an input is the path of the app on your machine.

Run Multiple Instances Of An App Using Parallel Space (Android)

Compared to Mac, the ability to run multiple instances of an app on an Android device is more useful. The reason is because you can run your favorite instant messaging apps like WhatsApp and Viber with different phone numbers at the same time on your device.

There’s no Terminal on Android so you’ll need to grab an app from the Google Play Store. The app is called Parallel Space.

Install and launch the app, then go through the welcome screens. When the main screen appears, choose the app you’d like to clone and tap on Add to Parallel Space at the bottom.

Tap on the app icon on the following screen and grant the required permissions.

The app will launch as if it’s the first time you’ve used it on your device.

Open Two Instances Of An App Using 2Accounts On Android

If the Parallel Space app didn’t work for you for some reason, you have another great app to help you create multiple instances of your apps.

Enter 2Accounts, that lets you do the exact same thing as the Parallel Space app.

Grab the app from the official Google Play Store and install it on your device.

Open the app, choose the app you’d like to run multiple instances of, and tap on Enable at the bottom.

Tap on your app on the following screen and an instance of it will launch on your device.

You may now add your additional accounts to the newly created instance of the app and start using them right away.

If you no longer need an instance of an app, simply tap and hold on the app in either of the above apps and select Delete. It will delete the instance along with the associated files from your device.

Using Telegram app

Creating a poll with multiple answers as an option is a bit tricky, as you would first need to create a personal bot first, and then the poll. But it’s not rocket science and doesn’t take a lot of time.

Part 1: How to create a personal bot in Telegram App

In order to create a pool where you can cast multiple options as your answers, you need to create a Personal Bot. You will be able to publish polls on different groups and channels on behalf of your personal bot. To create a personal bot, follow the below-mentioned steps.

Step 1: Open the Telegram App. Tap on the top right Search icon ([icon name=”search” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]).

Step 2: Type @quanbot in the search bar and select QuAn (@QuanBot).

Step 3: Tap on START and then tap on your preferred language.

Step 4: Tap on the edit message, type /newpoll and send it.

Step 5: If you already own a personal bot, it will be displayed under the Personal bot menu. Otherwise, tap on +Add bot to create a new bot.

Step 9: Choose a name for your bot and enter it.

Step 10: If the name already exists in the Telegram App, it will prompt again to try some other name. Otherwise, confirmation of your new personal bot will be displayed.

Step 11: Now, tap and hold on the token to copy it.

Note: Keep the token safe and secure because anyone can take control over your personal bot if they have access to the token.

Step 12: Tap on the Back ([icon name=”arrow-left” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]) button and select Quan. Paste the copied token and hit the Send button to add your personal bot.

Step 13: Once your personal bot is added, a message stating that “Your personal bot @example_bot has been added.” will be displayed along with the personal bot menu.

Once done adding the personal bot, tap on the name of your personal bot to create a poll.

Part 2: How to create a poll with multiple answers selection

Step 1: Tap on the personal bot you just added to start creating a poll.

Step 2: Type /newpoll.

Note: Type /help in the edit message area to check the options available.

Step 3: To continue working with the personal bot you created, you need to accept the terms and conditions mentioned under /copyright section. Kindly go through each and every point to have a better understanding of the bot usage.

Step 4: Tap on “Yes, I accept the terms of the agreement” to get started.

Step 5: You can add more description of the poll describing its actual purpose, target audience, etc. or simply type the name of the poll you wish to create and tap the send button.

Step 6: Poll menu will be displayed from where you can add multiple options to the question.

Step 7: After adding enough options, tap on Settings.

Step 8: Tap on the Multi-select icon to turn on multiple answers selection.

Step 9: Use the up and down icons to limit the number of options one can select.

Step 10: Tap on Test to check whether the user is able to select multiple options as the answer.

Step 11: Tap on Finish icon to complete editing the poll.

Note: Creating and publishing a new poll using Personal bot costs 10 Coins. You will be able to add coins using your credit card by tapping on the Balance under Menu. You can get 100 coins for 106 RUB which is around [icon name=”inr” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]120

Step 12: After tapping the Finish button, if balance is more than 10 coins, the poll will be created successfully and a link will be generated which can be shared with others. Tap on the created link to share it on a group or channel.

Step 14: The poll you created will be shared with the people in the selected group. You can check the poll results by tapping on the My Polls option available on the personal bot menu (/menu).

That’s all.

Setting up the poll with multiple answers in a bit of a task on Telegram but no so much on Survey Monkey. So, the latter is a better choice for you. But if you already use Telegram a lot, then keeping up with the app will make sense.

How To Get The Official Tor Browser App On Android.

If you are a fan of TOR browser and use it wherever possible, this article will show you how to get the official TOR browser app on your Android device. A recently released alpha version of TOR browser for mobile device, both phones, and tablets.

How to Securely and Anonymously Share Files of Any Size Using the Tor Network.

More and more governments around the world are starting to focus on their citizen’s Internet usage and encrypted messaging through services like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram. Although the media focus is primarily on Russia and China, America and its allies, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK are also working quietly on ways to force companies to divulge their encryption keys when requested. (For more information check out The Electronic Frontier Foundation)

Even though nothing has been set in stone yet, it’s still best to make sure you are ahead of the game, even if you are one of those people who claim to have “nothing to hide”. Admittedly nothing can be considered 100% safe/secure online, but there are dozens of ways you can reduce your footprint and cover your tracks significantly. On PC the most commonly used methods are VPNs, Proxies, and of course TOR browser. But what about mobile devices?

Thankfully, almost all mobile devices, both phones, and tablets allow you to run VPNs and proxies, however, there has long been a gap in the browser app market with no real option available for private, secure, and encrypted web access. The good news is that this is now a thing of the past as the good people over at TOR have finally released a TOR mobile browser app. The app is still in Alpha phase so may have some bugs to work out but is certainly worth checking out.

Can You Get TOR Browser on Android? You Sure Can!

To begin there are two ways to get the new TOR browser app, the first way is to get it via the Google Play Store (link below)

Download TOR Browser From Google Play.

The second way is to head on over to the TOR website and download the Android APK installation file. (You can use the direct link to the page below for convenience)

Download TOR Browser For Android Devices.

If you’ve never installed or used an Android APK file before, you can check out our comprehensive guide on installing apps from APKs here.

Once you have TOR on your device, open it using the shortcut on your home screen or in your app drawer. The first time you open TOR on your device you will see a prompt to install Orbot, tapping Yes, will take you to the Google Play store where you can download and install Orbot.

Orbot is a standalone app that gives you TOR network access on your device, which is the main component of TOR browser. You can use Orbot to protect your phones entire Internet connection not just TOR browser, think of it as a VPN/Proxy.

Note: When TOR browser for Android leaves Alpha and Beta tests, Orbot will be built into the app so you won’t be required to have two separate apps running on your device. Everything will be integrated.

After you have installed and enabled Orbot, you’ll be able to start using TOR browser. If you have used Firefox or Firefox Focus on Android, you will notice that TOR browser has the exact same Interface, so navigation is super easy.

When you’re at your day job, struggling to meet a deadline, it’s not to difficult to forget about your smartphone for a while. Taking a break from your smartphone, in itself, is a welcome change, but in the process, you could miss a few important notifications.

Pushbullet offers to remedy the situation by bringing those notifications straight to your desktop. You can check and reply to messages, get app notifications, phone alerts, and can even exchange files between your devices.

How to set up Pushbullet

Step 1. Go to Pushbullet’s official website on your Windows PC.

Step 2. After signing up with either Google or Facebook, you’ll be redirected to the welcome page.

Step 3. Download the app from Google Play on your Android smartphone.

Step 4. After completing the standard installation, the desktop client will give you the option of signing in.

Sign in with either Facebook or Google in the phone app. Make sure to choose the same option on both your PC and smartphone.

Step 5.  Allow Pushbullet to read your notifications on your phone — enable Notification access.

Step 6. Allow Pushbullet to manage phone calls and text messages.

Step 7. Having followed the steps above, you’ll be redirected to the home page of the app on Windows and Android.

How to make the most of Pushbullet

Microsoft Windows 10 also comes decked with a similar notifications service. However, that app has its fair share of limitations. Pushbullet, on the other hand, offers a lot more features, justifying the choice of picking a third-party app over the native one.

Below, we’ll take a brief look at the app’s most useful features and tell you how to get them up and running.

How to exchange files between devices

Pushbulllet mimics a peer-to-peer file transfer system, through which you can transfer data between your devices in a heartbeat. From images, songs, and video files (under 25MB in the free version) to text snippets, pretty much everything is on the menu.

How to send files from PC to phone

Step 2. Select the recipient.

That’s it!

However, it is to be noted that you’ll need to grant Pushbullet the Android File and storage permission before exchanging files.

How to send files from phone to PC

Step 1. Select the recipient under Pushing.

Step 2. Choose the file you want to send by tapping on the attach icon.

How to enable instant pushing

Pushbullet also allows you to push the current tab on your desktop to all our connected devices at once. Alternatively, you can enable instant push to individual devices as well. Here’s how to:

Step 1: Go to Settings.

Step 2: Go to the Advanced Tab.

Step 3: Check Instant push and select All devices or any single device.

How to follow a channel

Stay up to date with Pushbullet’s unique channel subscription system. The app lets you subscribe to various channels — tech, business, comics, entertainment, finance, and gaming — and brings their updates straight to the desktop client.

Step 1. Go to the Following tab on your Windows PC.

Step 3. When redirected to Pushbullet’s channel page, pick your favorite channels.

Similarly, you can add channels through the smartphone app.

Step 1. Go to the Channels tab.

Step 2. Take your pick and tap Follow.

How to enable the floating window mode

Pushbullet lets you reply to your messages right from your desktop and also lets you view your recent chats in a floating window mode.

Step 1. Go to the SMS tab.

Step 2. Pick the conversation you want to float.

Step 4. A floating window shortcut to the conversation will be created.

If you go to the SMS tab in the phone up, you’ll find two toggles of SMS sync and Only sync pictures while on Wi-Fi. Turn the SMS sync off if you don’t want to see your messages on your desktop.

How to blacklist an app from sending notifications

The main aim of Pushbullet is to deliver all your smartphone’s messages flawlessly to your desktop. And it’s safe to say that the app ticks all the boxes in this department. If you’ve granted Pushbullet Notification access, your notifications will be displayed on the bottom-right corner of your desktop.

The Notifications tab in the computer client is reserved for displaying incoming alerts.

But in the Android app, there are a few settings you can play around with.

Apart from Notification Mirroring and Only while on Wi-Fi toggles, there is a toggle for Skip silent notifications as well.  However, the most interesting part of this tab is the option of picking the apps that get to interrupt your work.

Step 1. Go to the Mirroring tab.

Step 2. Tap on Choose which apps to enable.

Step 3. Deselect the apps you don’t wish to be notified of.

How to use Remote File Access

This Pushbullet feature lets you access Android and Windows file from any part of the world as long as both the devices are connected to the internet.

Step 1. On your Windows PC, go to Settings and tick on Remote Files access.

Step 2. In the Android app, go to the Account tab.

Step 3. Tap on Remote Files, enable, and grant permission.

Step 4. You’ll be greeted by the Remotes Files screen where your PC will be listed.

Step 5. Tap on the name of your PC.

Step 6. Browse and request a file.

Step 7. Your request will be confirmed and the file will be downloaded to your smartphone.

What’s in Settings

The Windows client lets you change the position of the notification banner, hide banner details by only showing the title of the incoming notification, toggle universal copy and paste (Pro), choose whether you want audible alerts for incoming notifications, toggle quick file sharing, and more.

In the Android app, the Settings menu gives you pretty much all the option that the desktop client does while adding a luscious Dark mode into the mix.

Also, there’s an option to enable end-to-end encryption on both Windows and Android. To enable, you’ll have to set a password, which must be the same on all devices.

How To Improve Location Accuracy On An Android Phone

Ever since smartphones came into existence, users have used the built-in GPS sensors inside them to know where they are, find a place they wish to go to, and determine how far they are from another place. GPS or Global Positioning System uses radio signals to pinpoint your location relative to GPS satellites that orbit around the earth.

Android phones have what they call a GPS receiver unit that gathers the signals from these satellites to find your exact location. This is important because, accurate location isn’t just necessary to track your journey but is also used to get you relevant results when you’re searching for something on Google, browsing a website that shows regional content or receiving critical alerts for natural disasters like earthquakes or storms.

If you’re having trouble finding your location on Android, this post should help you improve your device’s location accuracy when using Google Maps or any other app installed on your phone.

Related: How to see your location history on Android

1. Turn on your location

The first step to improve your device’s location accuracy is to actually turn on location inside your phone’s settings. For that, open the Settings app on your Android device and go to Location.

Inside Location, turn on the Use location toggle.

This should provide apps access to your location if they were granted such permissions previously.

If you’ve enabled Location services on your Android phone, you’ll be able to get search results based on your location, share your whereabouts with others, find your time zone and determine your phone’s location from other devices in case you lost it.

2. Calibrate your location on Google Maps

If your Android phone is ready your current location incorrectly, your phone’s compass may not have been calibrated properly and you may need to manually calibrate it to get it tight. Before you do this, you need to make sure you have enabled the Use location option from the above section. When ready, open the Google Maps app on Android and look for a blue dot inside the map. This blue dot is the location that your phone thinks you are at. When this blue dot is surrounded by a light blue circle, it means Google Maps isn’t completely sure about your current location.

To calibrate your device’s location, tap on this blue dot.

If your GPS hasn’t been calibrated appropriately, you’ll see a “Location accuracy is low” message at the bottom. To improve the location accuracy, tap on Calibrate.

Now, lift your phone and make a figure 8 gesture by moving it around. When your device GPS has been calibrated, Compass accuracy will show up as “high” on the screen.

This should mean that your device’s compass has been successfully calibrated.

3. Enable Google Location Accuracy

If your phone still cannot figure out your accurate location, you may need to activate Google Location Accuracy (or High accuracy mode on older devices) inside Android settings. When Google Location Accuracy is enabled, your phone uses random data from your GPS receiver, Wi-Fi, your cellular network, and the accelerometer to estimate your correct location.

Inside Location, tap on Location Services.

On the next screen, select Google Location Accuracy.

Here, turn on the Improve Location Accuracy toggle.

4. Use precise location for select apps

Not all apps require access to your precise location and it’s best to provide them with your general location for privacy reasons. For apps that you need to use to locate yourself correctly like on Google Maps, granting them precise location privileges is important.

Inside Location, tap on App location permissions.

On this screen, select the app you want to enable precise location for.

Next, make sure you have allowed the app access to your location by selecting either of these two options – Ask every time or Allow only while using the app.

Now, turn on the Use precise location toggle to let the app gather your accurate location instead of an approximated location.

5. Turn on Wi-Fi scanning

Inside Location, tap on Location Services.

Here, select Wi-Fi scanning.

On the next screen, turn on the Wi-Fi scanning toggle at the top.

6. Turn on Bluetooth scanning

Inside Location, tap on Location Services.

Here, select Bluetooth scanning.

On the next screen, turn on the Bluetooth scanning toggle at the top.

7. Enable Emergency Location Service

Android phones also offer users a way to send their location coordinates to first responders in case of an emergency. If Android Emergency Location Service or ELS is activated, your phone can send its location to authorized emergency services when you call or text a local emergency number (911 in the US or 112 in Europe). The location sent via ELS to emergency services is different from the location data you share using Google Maps and needs to be accurate so that first responders can reach your location more easily.

Inside Location, tap on Location Services.

On the next screen, select Emergency Location Service.

Here, turn on the Send ELS location toggle.

When ELS is enabled, your device will use your location and Google Location Accuracy even if these settings have been disabled on your phone.

8. Save your location history

To get a more accurate location on Android, you can enable Google Location History on your device. When you turn Google Location History, Google will save your location coordinates every time it detects a change in your location. Google can help estimate your whereabouts based on your previous location history and also provide you with real-time info about when to leave for a place, and how to avoid traffic.

While we recommend keeping your Google Location History disabled for privacy reasons, if your Android phone is having a hard time telling your exact location, tracking your location history can be another way to improve your phone’s location accuracy. To enabled Google Location History, open the Settings app and go to Location.

Inside Location, tap on Location Services.

Now, select Google Location History.

On the next screen, tap on Turn on inside ‘Location History’.

Next, tap on Turn on again to confirm.

9. Simply give your device more time

When you are sharing a location on your Android device through an app, just let the device take some time to find your location as it can make a good deal of difference.

For example, when you share your current location on WhatsApp, it may show your location to be accurate to 8-15 meters in a matter of seconds. But if you allow it a minute or so, it will get you the location accurate to within 4-5 meters. So, simply waiting and letting the system do its thing can get you a more accurate location.

This will enable location history for your device in your Google account and from now, you’ll be able to see all the places you go to by going to your account’s Location History section here.

That’s all you need to know about improving location accuracy on Android.

How To See Multiple Screens On Zoom

2023 might not be known to be the year where people gathered but the global situation that we’ve been put into hasn’t stopped us from interacting with our loved ones, family, and getting work done. With services like Zoom, communication is the least of anyone’s worries during the pandemic, and organizations and businesses have found logical alternatives for collaboration and conversation.

One of the key highlights of Zoom is its seamless capability to share one’s screen with others. But did you know that you can see more than one shared screen during meetings on Zoom? That’s what we’re here to talk about.

In this post, we’ll explain how you can see multiple screens at the same time on Zoom, how it works, things you need to enable it, how you can use simultaneous screen sharing, and more.

When can you see multiple screens at the same time on Zoom?

You can see multiple screens on Zoom only when others share them with you inside a meeting. This is possible through the simultaneous screen sharing feature on Zoom which allows multiple participants to share their screens at the same time.

When multiple users share their computer screens at the same time, you will be able to view them at once or select the ones you want to show up on your screen.

What do you need?

To enable simultaneous screen sharing, you require the following things.

You are the meeting host on Zoom

You have disabled Remote support for everyone in your account or group

You’re using the latest version of the Zoom desktop client on Mac, Windows, or Linux

You have enabled content sharing through dual monitors (Optional but recommended)

How to enable simultaneous screen sharing on Zoom

Before you proceed to enable simultaneous sharing on Zoom, you need to make sure that you’re the meeting host and that you have turned OFF Remote support. To enable simultaneous screen sharing, open the Zoom desktop client on your computer, and then join a meeting as a host.

You have successfully enabled simultaneous screen sharing inside the Zoom meeting.

How to see multiple screens inside a Zoom meeting

Once you have enabled the ‘Multiple participants can share simultaneously’ option inside the meeting screen on Zoom, any participant present in the meeting can share their screen irrespective of whether someone else is sharing theirs.

Participants will see the following content depending on the setup they use for their Zoom meetings:

For those using dual monitors: Can see 2 screens that were most recently shared.

For those using the Zoom mobile app: Can see 1 screen most recently shared screen, No option to change the screen they’re viewing.

Why should you use simultaneous screen sharing?

With simultaneous screen sharing, you get a bunch of benefits.

Sharing rights isn’t restricted to a single participant in a meeting

Others can share their screen even when one participant is currently sharing

Gives participants the ability to decide whose shared screen to look at

Dual monitor users can view two shared screens at once

Helps meeting members make a real-time comparison of documents or work materials

Why should you NOT use simultaneous screen sharing?

As useful as it may be on most occasions, there are some limitations to simultaneous screen sharing, and here are some instances you should not use it.

Participants using the Zoom app on their mobile phones still won’t have the ability to share when someone else is sharing, even with this feature enabled.

When you enable simultaneous screen sharing on Zoom, you lose the functionality to share your computer’s audio when showing your display with others.

Simultaneous screen sharing also disables the ‘Optimize for full-screen video clip’ option on Zoom.

The ability to view multiple screens during a meeting is limited to those with a dual-monitor setup. Regular users will have to decide whose screen they want to view and they can only view one of the screens on their desktop.

Want to view multiple user’s camera views instead?

If you wish to see multiple participants on the same screen during a Zoom meeting and not the screens shared by others, then you can do that by simply switching to Gallery view from inside the meeting screen. Gallery view lets you see up to 49 participants in a single grid and you can also customize your view by re-ordering participants on your screen.

You can learn more about viewing multiple users on Zoom in the post we’ve provided in the link below:

That’s pretty much all we have to share about seeing multiple screens on Zoom. For more posts on the video-conferencing platform, check out our dedicated Zoom section.
