Suggested January 2024 How To Measure The Distance Between Two Points In Google Maps
When checking out a location in Google Maps, there are times where you want to know the distance between two points, such as from your current position to the destination. The distance-measuring feature can come in handy since it can help you decide whether you walk or take the car to your destination. Google Maps can also help you pinpoint the distance between various destinations and give you the grand total without having to install an additional app.
How to See the Distance Between One or More Places in Google Maps [Android]Open Google Maps on your Android device, and either use your current location or type one in. You can also long-press on an area until the red balloon appears.
When Google Maps gives you information on the address you typed, it will appear at the bottom. Tap on it, and it will take up your entire display. You should see a ruler with the words “Measure Distance” to the right of it.
A black circle will appear with a few blue dots. If you swipe your finger to the right on your display, the dots will move to the left. Place the black circle where you want to go, and the distance will appear at the bottom-left of your display.
There is also a way to measure the distance between various points. You can do this by tapping on the “Add point” option at the bottom right. After you’ve measured the distance between point A and point B, tap on this option and place the black circle on the third location, and the sum of all the points you decide to add will appear at the bottom.
How to Measure the Distance Between One/Various Points in Google Maps [Desktop] How to Measure the Distance Between One/Various Points with Google Maps [iOS]Measuring the distance between two points in iOS is identical to how you do it on your Android device. You can long-press on the location, or you can type it in. When the red balloon appears, tap on the information about the location at the bottom of your display.
On your iOS device you will see the same blue ruler with the words “measure distance.” Tap on it and slowly swipe across your display until the black circle is on the second location. The measurement will be at the bottom as well. If you want to measure more than one location, tap on the “add location” text in blue at the bottom right.
ConclusionSometimes you can get so caught up in using the main features on an app that you can forget that it also offers others. Do you think that the distance measuring feature is a useful one?

How To Use Google Maps: Features For Businesses
Google Maps is packed full of features to improve the local search experience for users as well as businesses who rely on the platform to reach customers.
Over the years, Google Maps has become the primary tool people use for finding driving directions, checking traffic conditions, and looking up locations with Street View.
There’s a lot more business owners can do with Google Maps beyond these everyday features. Here’s a look at some of the top features for businesses and how they can be a useful part of your marketing strategy.
How to Message Customers From Google Maps & SearchGoogle provides messaging capabilities in Maps and Search to facilitate easier communication between businesses and their customers.
Businesses with a verified profile can now message customers directly from the Google Maps app. Messages from customers will appear in the business messages section in the updates tab.
Messaging can be turned on or off from the settings panel of the Google Maps and Google My Business apps.
Google will soon add the ability for businesses to see and respond to customers on desktop by adding messages directly in Search.
Customers can already utilize business messaging from search results when viewing a Google My Business profile.
The example below shows what the new “Message” button looks like on a business post.
How to View Google Maps Performance InsightsGoogle tracks key marketing metrics within the performance insights of Google My Business.
These insights track how well a business is performing by measuring the number of customer engagements initiated from Maps and Search.
In addition, the performance insights show business owners which queries people are using to find their listings in Maps and Search.
The dataset tracks the following information:
Total amount of searches that triggered your business profile.
Whether performance is up or down from last year.
A list of search terms people used to find your business profile.
How many times each search term triggered your business profile.
Other insights include data on how many customers are finding a business via Maps and how many are finding it via Google Search, and whether the business was found on a mobile or desktop device.
All performance data is available for up to six months.
How to Publish to the Google Maps Community FeedA community feed in the Explore tab of Google Maps allows users to find the latest reviews, photos, and posts added to Maps by local experts, people they follow, and businesses serving food & drink.
Businesses in the food & drink industry can contribute content to the community feed by publishing a Google Post or updating their profile with new information.
That’s one more reason to keep business listings regularly updated if you’re in the food & drink industry. The more often you publish a post or add other types of content to your profile, the more often you may show up in peoples’ community feed.
How to Submit Imagery to Google Maps Street ViewGoogle lets regular users contribute imagery to Street View using only their phones.
With the Street View app, users can record a series of connected images while they move down a street or path.
After the footage is recorded and published with the Street View app, Google will automatically rotate, position, and put the sequence of images together.
This feature may be useful for businesses in areas without the best street view coverage. It could also be used to submit updated Street View imagery of the outside of a business.
The Street View connected photos feature is available for people using the app with an ARCore-compatible Android device in Toronto, Canada, New York, NY, and Austin, TX, along with Nigeria, Indonesia, and Costa Rica.
More regions may be added in the future.
How to Build Authority as a Google Maps Local GuideOne of the ways business owners can build authority and show their commitment to helping the community is by becoming a Google Local Guide.
Google depends on Local Guides to write reviews, share photos, answer questions, add or edit places, and check facts on Google Maps. They’re rewarded with points and special badges.
Businesses cannot become Local Guides, but business owners can join the Local Guide program with a personal Google account. When they contribute tips to Google Maps, their name will appear with a distinctive Local Guide badge next to it.
Over time this can help business owners stand out as people who truly care about their local market.
To become a Local Guide, simply sign up with a Google account and select your current location. Then go ahead and start making contributions to Google Maps.
How to Find Accessible Routes for Customers in Google MapsBusiness owners should always have solutions in place for customers with accessibility needs. That includes having accessible ways to visit the business’s physical location.
Customers can easily look up directions in Google Maps, but they’re not immediately provided with the most accessible directions.
Business owners can assist in that regard by using their website to list accessible routes from different areas of the city.
With the right settings, Google Maps can be used to find accessible directions. To access the “wheelchair accessible” routes in Google Maps:
Type your business’s address into Google Maps.
Tap Directions then select the public transportation icon.
Tap Options and select wheelchair accessible as a new route type.
Google Maps will then show a list of possible routes that take mobility needs into consideration.
How to Utilize Questions & Answers in Google MapsBusiness owners can answer customer queries in Google Maps by visiting their business profile and replying to any submissions.
If there are no submitted questions, business owners can fill up the Q&A section themselves by asking questions while signed in to another Google profile. Just visit the business listing and tap the “Ask a question” button.
Google Maps doesn’t show the names of people asking questions, which means business owners can populate this section themselves and it will look organic to other customers.
How to Use Google PostsAnother way business owners can contribute content to Google Maps is through the use of Google Posts. Think of these as social media posts for Maps that customers see when they view a business listing.
Google Posts can be published by following the steps below:
Open the Google Maps app.
Make sure you’re logged in with the account you used to sign up for Google My Business.
Open your business profile.
Tap Promote and tap the type of post you want to create.
Choose which elements to add to the post. Options include photos, videos, text, events, offers, or buttons.
Tap Preview to see what the post will look like to other users.
Tap Publish when you’re satisfied with how the post looks.
How to Use Google Maps OfflineThis last tip is sure to get business owners out of a jam if they find themselves in a location with a poor wireless signal.
Don’t let a lack of internet connection get in the way of meeting with a client or customer. Plan ahead by downloading Google Maps directions to view offline.
Before heading to an area that may or may not have a reliable connection, look up the area in Google Maps and tap the Download button at the bottom of the screen.
This will download a map of the entire area to the device, making it possible to get turn-by-turn directions while offline.

How To Sum Values Between Two Dates (Using Sumifs Formula)
When you’re working with datasets that have dates, you would often find yourself trying to do calculations based on the dates.
For example, if you have the sales data for a month, you may want to know the total sales that have happened between two given dates or the total sales made on weekends vs weekdays.
One of the ways to quickly get these answers is by using the SUMIFS function.
SUMIFS (as the name suggests), allows you to sum a range based on criteria. Within SUMIFs, you can specify multiple conditions and it will sum only those cells/values that meet all the conditions.
In this tutorial, I will show you how to sum values between two dates using the SUMIFS function.
So let’s get started!
Suppose you have a dataset as shown below and you want to know the sales that have come in during 1-Jan-2023 and 31-Jan-2023 (I am using the DD-MM-YYYY format for the date here)
Below is the formula that will give you the sum of sales between these two dates:
The above SUMIF function uses five arguments (this can change based on the number of conditions you have):
The first argument (C2:C15) is the range that has the values that we want to add
The second and third argument is for the first condition, which is that the date should be more than or equal to 01-01-2023. For each condition, you need to specify the criteria range and the criteria
The fourth and fifth arguments are for the second condition – criteria and the criteria range.
Note: In the formula, you can use any valid date format in the formula, For example, in the cells, I have used the date as 01-01-2023, but in the formula, I can use any format that still refers to this date. For example, I can use 01 Jan, 2023 or 01 January 2023 or 1-Jan-2023. As long as the date format is valid, Excel will be able to use it to calculate the sum between the two given dates.
For example, if you have the start date and end date in cells (as shown below), you can use the following formula to get the sum of sales in the given date range.
Remember that the operator needs to be in double quotes, and the cell reference needs to be out of double quotes.
Also read: Calculate Days Between Two Dates ExcelSince the SUMIFS function allows you to use multiple conditions, you can also add more criteria in the same formula.
For example, suppose you have the same dataset (as shown below), but this time, you want to know the total sales of Printers that happened between the two given dates (01 Jan and 31 Jan).
You can do that by adding another condition to the formula where apart from checking for the date, it also checks whether the product is Printer or not. It will then give you the result that matches all the given conditions
Below is the formula that will do this:
The above formula checks for the dates as well as whether the product is a Printer or not. It would only sum a value when all three conditions are met.
Similarly, you can also get the sum of values between dates where you want to exclude a specific product.
For example, if you want to sum values between 1 and 31 Jan for all the product except the Scanner, then you can use the below formula:
And just to reiterate, I have hard-coded the data values in the formula, but if you have these dates in a cell, you can refer to that cell in the formula.
These are some examples where you can sum values between two dates, and you can tweak the formula to add more conditions if you want.
Hope you found this tutorial useful.

How Juno Broke The Distance Record For Solar
NASA’s Juno spacecraft has blown through the ribbon at the end of the robot race, breaking the record for farthest distance traveled using solar power. The spacecraft is on its way to rendezvous with Jupiter on July 4.
Solar-powered spacecraft are very common, but they are never used this far out into space, and for good reason. The amount of sunlight at Jupiter is 25 times lower than what we get here on Earth. This wouldn’t usually be enough energy to power a basketball court-sized spacecraft like Juno, but it is, and that’s due to a few different factors.
A Place In The SunGalileo was the first and only other spacecraft to orbit Jupiter. When it launched in 1989, solar panel efficiency was too low to work in deep space–only about 12 percent of the light’s energy got turned into electricity. But when Lockheed Martin designed Juno in 2003, the efficiency had more than doubled to 28 percent, just enough to make the first deep space mission powered only by the sun’s slight touch from 500 million miles away.
Usually robotic crafts like the Curiosity rover, Cassini, New Horizons, and Galileo receive their power from an onboard RTG, or Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator. These work by using the heat released by a radioactive material–in this case, plutonium–to generate electricity. An RTG is a great way to provide energy and warmth to an expensive spacecraft’s fragile electronics in the cold void of space, but there are a few catches to using an RTG. Radioactive material is incredibly dangerous, increasing the liability of a launch, and very expensive. It’s also difficult to produce in an era of nuclear non-proliferation–which is why NASA only has a few RTG spacecraft batteries left.
To compensate for its extreme distance from the sun (500 million miles), Juno’s solar array is huge–it has three wings of solar cells, each 30 feet long. NASA/Lockheed Martin
When the concept for Juno first started, there was still enough plutonium around to give Juno an RTG power source, but that never factored in.
“We never even considered designing Juno with an RTG,” says Juno engineer Kevin Rudolph from Lockheed Martin. “We knew all along we would do it with solar power.” Because Juno was one of NASA’s lower budget New Frontiers missions, like New Horizons and the asteroid-hunter Osiris-Rex, the Juno team had to keep things simple. “We knew roughly how expensive the Cassini RTGs were, and they were built when there was still a decent amount of plutonium left, “ explains Rudolph. “Even with a good supply of plutonium they were still very expensive so it wasn’t an option for us.”
Built For EfficiencyJuno has three 30-foot solar array wings, outfitted with a total of 18,698 individual solar cells. In total they put out about 500 watts of power, which is more than enough to operate all of Juno’s science instruments and keep the electronics warm.
It’s not just the updated solar efficiency that makes this mission possible, but the inherent design of every single element on the spacecraft. Scientists and engineers built the instruments to be as energy efficient as possible, and even planned the mission trajectory to utilize the solar cells.
The engineers at Lockheed designed Juno so that it would face the sun most of the time, stocking up on solar power. The unique polar orbit keeps Jupiter from eclipsing the spacecraft, providing a constant stream of electricity.
To make sure this system worked before they strapped Juno onto a rocket, the engineers put the solar cells in a test chamber and cooled them to a frosty -290 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature the spacecraft would live in while at Jupiter. While the panels were frozen, the team shined a very dim light on them and simultaneously blasted them with an electron gun to mimic the harsh radiation environment at Jupiter. “By doing this test we were able to calculate how many solar panels we would need in order to run Juno,” explains Rudolph. “Turns out we needed a 50-square-meter surface, and we divided that into three separate wings.”
Not Quite Everywhere Under The SunBecause NASA only has a few plutonium reserves left, it ultimately limits the number of missions that can venture out to places like Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and the Kuiper Belt. Luckily, though, just last year the Department of Energy teamed up with NASA to begin producing a new supply of Plutonium-238, eventually restocking NASA’s shelf of RTG’s.
Artist illustration of Juno spacecraft orbiting Jupiter. NASA
Juno arrives at Jupiter on July 4 after a 1.7 billion mile journey. When it arrives will break a few more records, too; not only will it be the fastest spacecraft ever, moving away from Earth at a whopping 165,000 miles per hour, but Juno will orbit closer to Jupiter than any spacecraft in history, providing the highest resolution images ever taken of the planet. Not bad for a smaller budget, solar-powered science robot!
Juno’s mission will be to figure out if Jupiter has a solid core or not, and it will peek through the atmosphere to better understand how gas giants like Jupiter form. Because Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system, it holds many answers to how our solar system formed, and might even give us a better idea of how Earth formed as well.
Popular Science will be at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab for Juno’s flyby! Follow our coverage here.
Correction 7/1/2023 at 14:33PM: A previous version of this story misstated Juno’s distance from the sun. We regret the error.
Google Maps Not Working? 13 Fixes To Try!
Google Maps is a popular and reliable choice when it comes to navigating your way around a new city, traveling to a tourist destination, or simply knowing the traffic status of your daily commute route. With great features and capabilities, Google Maps is one of the most popular apps for navigation out there. I, for one, rely heavily on Google Maps on a daily basis. If I am looking for a new place to eat, I turn to Google Maps. If I want to check out transit routes, I turn to Google Maps. I even have offline maps saved for my favorite and frequent destinations. So, I can understand how annoying it can be to find Google Maps not working properly, or even worse, it glitching out while navigating the route.
1. Check the Google Maps Server StatusSometimes the Google Maps servers can experience downtime or get glitched. In such instances, Google Maps might not function properly. Now, you cannot do anything in this case. You will have to wait until the issue is resolved from Google’s end.
However, you can verify whether or not Google Maps’ servers are optimally functioning. Google offers a dedicated Google Maps Status Dashboard to provide information on all the services that are part of Google Maps. To check whether the Google Maps servers are up and running, you can visit the Google Maps Status Dashboard using your favorite web browser on your Android or iOS device.
If you find that all the services are running as expected, it is safe to assume that the issue is from your end. So, continue reading below to find the possible fixes for the Google Maps not working issue.
2. Restart the Google Maps AppYou will be surprised to know that many issues can be solved just by restarting the app. Restarting the Google Maps app will end all of its existing tasks and relaunch its processes. This will allow your Android phone to free up its memory as well. Once you restart Google Maps, it should rectify the issues you were facing earlier with the app.
3. Clear Cached Data on Android & iOSThe apps on your smartphone store temporary data to load information faster and quicker when you relaunch them. This enables the apps installed on your device to access information directly from your device instead of establishing a connection with the server again. But, this cached data can sometimes get corrupted due to various reasons. Faulty cached data can cause your app to behave abnormally, and in some cases, even crash continuously.
Hence, another way to fix the Google Maps not working issue is clearing cached data stored by that app onto your phone memory. Continue reading to know how you can delete the cached data of Google Maps on your Android and iOS devices.
On Android2. Select “Storage & cache”.
On iOSFollow the below-mentioned steps to delete the Google Maps cached data on iOS.
2. Select “Settings” and scroll down to the bottom to find the “About, terms & privacy” option.
Now relaunch Google Maps on your iPhone, and it should start working without any hiccups.
Sometimes the simplest solutions can terminate the most complex of issues. In this case, something as simple as updating your Google Maps app can do the trick for you. Here’s how how you can check for Google Maps app updates on your Android and iOS devices.
On AndroidOnce you have confirmed that there is no pending update for Google Maps in the Play Store, relaunch the app. If the issue still persists, proceed to try out other fixes to resolve the Google Maps not working issue.
On iOSOn your iPhone, open the App Store and search for Google Maps. If there is any pending update for Google Maps, you will notice the update icon below the app name. Download the latest update if available.
Once you have confirmed there is no pending update for Google Maps in the App Store, relaunch the app again.
5. Uninstall and Install Google Maps On AndroidNote that this does not completely remove the Google Maps app from your device. It simply rolls back all of the updates that you have installed in recent times. You will need to use the Universal Android Debloater to completely remove the Google Maps app from your device. Visit our detailed guide to debloat your Android smartphone.
Now, when you launch the Google Maps app on your Android device, this should remove all the previously encountered issues. If Google Maps is still not working on your device, then proceed to the next fix.
On iOS 6. Restart Your DeviceThe next fix that I will recommend to you is to restart your Android or iOS smartphones. Restarting your device is the most common fix for most of the issues and it might just be the trick to get Google Maps working flawlessly.
So, continue reading below to find out how you can restart your Android and iOS device.
On AndroidWait for the phone to reboot and launch the Google Maps app on your Android device. This should fix the issue for you.
On iOSLong press the power button and the volume up button simultaneously until the “Slide to power off” option appears. Once you power down your iPhone, long press the power button to restart it.
Wait for some time and launch the Google Maps app on your iOS device. This should fix the issue for you.
7. Check the Network ConnectionOne of the biggest reasons why Google Maps might not be working properly for you could be due to slow or inconsistent network connectivity. In case your mobile data and/or Wi-Fi isn’t functioning properly, Google Maps will have a hard time working as intended.
Another reason why Google Maps might be struggling to work properly is if you have a VPN turned on on your device. You might have forgotten to turn it off before using Google Maps, hence the issue. So, turn off the VPN and try using Google Maps again.
8. Improve Location AccuracyGoogle Maps relies on your smartphone’s GPS to give accurate location data to you. This is why any inaccuracy with your phone’s location or GPS data will interfere with the smooth operation of Google Maps. So, let’s learn how you can improve the location accuracy of Google Maps on your Android and iOS devices.
On Android1. Open the Settings app and then visit the “Location” section.
2. In here, open Maps and enable the “Use Precise Location” option. This will grant Google Maps permission to use your precise device location and give you much more accurate and relevant data.
On iOS1. Open the Settings app and then scroll down to Google Maps.
2. Open the Location menu from Google Maps and enable “Precise Location”. This will allow Google Maps to have access to your specific location and not your approximate location for improved navigation.
9. Change Location Services PermissionGoogle Maps relies on your location data to function properly. Hence, any issue with your on-device location permissions, GPS, or other location-related issues, will interfere with the functioning of Google Maps. Ensure that necessary location permissions are granted to the Google Maps app to have it working again. Here’s how you can do that:
On Android1. Open the “Settings app” on your Android device and scroll down to the “Location” option.
Now, relaunch the Google Maps app.
On iOS1. Open the “Settings app” on your iPhone and scroll down until you notice the Google Maps option.
Now, when you relaunch the Google Maps app, it should function as expected.
10. Try Using Google Maps GoThe Google Maps Go app is essentially targeted at low-end smartphone users, who might encounter issues while running the full-fledged RAM-intensive Google Maps app on their device. You can download the Google Maps Go app for free from the Play Store.
Once installed, you should be able to run the Google Maps Go app smoothly on your Android device. However, if you are on iOS, this lightweight version of the Google Maps app is not available for you.
11. Enable Background Data ConsumptionWhile the background data consumption is on, apps installed on your smartphone can download data for future usage and provide you notifications when they are not running actively. This allows the apps to stay ready from the get-go as soon as you launch them. For an application like Google Maps, enabling background data consumption is essential since this will enable the app to keep itself updated constantly with the latest information and data, based on your GPS, and real-time location data.
Let me show you how you can enable background data consumption for Google Maps on Android and iOS.
On Android2. Now, select the “Mobile data & Wi-Fi”option and enable “Background data”.
Once toggled on, Google Maps will be able to use your smartphone’s background data even when not in active usage.
On iOS2. From General, select “Background App Refresh”. Toggle Background App Refresh on for Google Maps as depicted below.
12. Disable WiFi-only ModeFor better results, you can disable the Wi-Fi-only mode for Google Maps on Android. This will allow Google Maps to use both your mobile data and Wi-Fi to operate. Follow the steps below to learn how to disable the Wi-Fi-only mode for Google Maps on your Android device.
2. From the pop-up window, open “Settings”. Disable the Wi-Fi-only mode.
Google Maps will now be able to function using your mobile data as well.
So, it is important that you double-check the date and time on your Android and iOS devices. Check out our detailed guide on changing the time on your iPhone.
Possible Reasons for Google Maps Not Working? It is hard to pinpoint the exact reason for the failure of Google Maps. Google Maps can crash or not work as intended due to a multitude of reasons. From server crashes to hardware and software issues on your smartphone, the reasons are diverse. But, the most common reasons are inconsistent or slow network speed, low GPS accuracy, pending app updates, and Google Maps server downtime.

Google Maps Is Not Working On Chrome In Windows Computer
What should one do if Google Maps does not work properly in the Chrome browser on Windows 11/10? Now and again, we all find the need to use a mapping tool, and more than usual, most of us find ourselves using Google Maps. When it comes down to mapping services, Google Maps is the granddaddy. Since the Google Chrome web browser is the most popular today, it’s safe to say that if many folks use Google Maps, they’ll be doing so through Google Chrome rather than another tool. However, what happens when Maps fails to work adequately in Chrome?
Google Maps not working on ChromeMany users have complained about this problem recently, so we took the time out to come up with a way to get the problem under control. Here’s what you need to do if Google Maps is not working on Chrome:
Sign out Google account and sign in
Use Incognito mode
Clear cookies and cache
Disable browser extensions
Reset Google Chrome
Use an alternative browser
1] Sign out Google account and sign inAfter that, visit Google Maps again to see if it works. Finally, log back into your account to see if things are still up to scratch, and if such is not the case, then you’ll have to use Google Maps while logged out for the time being.
2] Use Incognito modeFor those who might not be aware of some things, browsing in Incognito mode means extensions in Chrome will not be active. In some cases, an extension might be the reason why Chrome is not working as it should, and probably why Maps is failing to perform well.
3] Clear cookies and cacheA web browser is not the same without cookies, and that’s the truth. If the cookies and the cache are not working as they should, then web pages will likely fail to work accordingly.
What we’ll need to do in a situation like this, is to clear the cookies and the cache, then start from scratch. In order to get this done, users are required to hit the Menu button, and from there, choose the option that says Settings. The next step, then, is to choose Advanced, and after that, Clear browsing data.
4] Disable browser extensionsYou’ll need to locate the extension that is causing all of this ruckus, and the best way to do this is to disable browser extensions, then fire them up again one after the other.
Now, what you’ll need to do now, is launch open Google Maps to see if it works. If it does, please activate one extension, reload the Maps page, and repeat this process for each until you’ve come across the culprit.
5] Reset Google Chrome 6] Use a different web browserIf your browser does not support Google Maps API then you may see an error message – You are using a browser that is not supported by the Google Maps JavaScript API. Consider changing your browser. Chrome users too have, for some strange reason, see this message. If you are a Chrome user. you can reset the browser and see. Else simply fire up Microsoft Edge and open Google Maps and see if that helps.
Why is Google Maps not loading? The most common cause of this issue is a corrupted app cache (if you are using Google Maps on your smartphone) or a corrupted web browser cache (if you are using Google Maps on your computer in a browser). Another cause is the slow internet connection. Make sure that your internet connection is working fine. Try to connect your computer with an ethernet cable.
What is an alternative to Google Maps? You can use Bing Maps as an alternative to Google Maps. Bing Maps is a Microsoft product. Like Google Maps, you can use Bing Maps for Routing purposes. Enter the start and the end location in Bing Maps, and it will show you the route to reach the destination. Other alternatives to Google Maps include OpenStreetMap, OsmAnd, HERE WeGo, Apple Maps, etc.
