The Recycle Bin has been a part of Windows operating systems since the very early days of the program. It’s such a mainstay that it’s easy to overlook. We just let it do its thing. What you may not know is that there are some settings for the Recycle Bin that you can tweak for a better experience.
Whenever you delete a file on your Windows machine, that file is not immediately removed from the system. Instead, it goes to the Recycle bin where it sits until you delete it permanently. If you don’t empty the Recycle Bin, it will hold all the files until the bin has reached its maximum capacity, then will empty the oldest files first. This process gives you time to go back and recover files you may have deleted accidentally or changed your mind about.
1. Change the Recycle Bin’s Maximum SizeThe size of the Recycle Bin varies from computer to computer. It roughly takes up about 5% of the total volume. So a machine with 1 TB (~930 GB usable) of space will end up with a recycle bin size of about 46 GB.
Each drive on your machine has a separate Recycle bin. However, all those bins are combined into one view, so when you look at your desktop Recycle bin, you will see all the files you have deleted, no matter which drive you stored them on.
The default size will be sufficient for most of you, but if you have a computer with a drive size of 2TB of files that you rarely delete, you may not want to have almost 100 GB of space reserved for the Recycle Bin.
2. Delete Files Immediately without Using the Recycle BinPerhaps you want to bypass the Recycle Bin and delete files immediately. This could come in handy if you’re going to remove a large number of files that you are sure you will never need again. Doing this will not affect the files already in the bin. Those files will remain where they are, and the oldest ones will not be deleted permanently.
For most users, doing this is not a good option, but if you decide to use it, you should check the box to enable a dialog box to confirm your choice, so you don’t accidentally delete something you need later.
3. Set Recycle Bin to Delete Files After a Set TimeWindows 10 has added a feature called Storage Sense. Storage sense helps you by freeing up space on your drive automatically. One of the options in this feature allows you to enable automatic deletion of files from the Recycle Bin once they have been there for a certain amount of time.
To find Storage Sense, you need to open your settings and select Storage.

10 Recycle Bin Tips For Windows Users – Webnots
Recycle Bin is one of the default items available in Windows computer’s desktop. Though every user deletes files/folders and send to Recycle Bin, most do not care more about optimizing the process. If you are the one frequently deleting and accessing Recycle Bin, here are some useful Recycle Bin tips to improve your productivity.

If you frequently delete and then restore files from Recycle Bin, then do not use some of the tips like scheduling clean up or permanently deleting files bypass sending them to Recycle Bin. Other tips are reversible that you can reset back like earlier state like changing the icon or size.
1. Permanently Delete Files without Going to Recycle BinChange Recycle Bin Setup
We do not recommend to enable this setup as files deleted wrongly can’t be recovered from Recycle Bin any more.
2. Change Recycle Bin SizeAs you can in the above properties screenshot, Windows automatically assigned 4590MB size for 49.6GB C: drive. This is around 10% of the drive size and automatically allocated for each drive for Recycle Bin. However, if you are running out of storage space then you can reduce the Recycle Bin size on each drive as per your need. Simply enter the size in MB in the “Custom size: Maximum size (MB)” text box and save your changes. You have to do this for selecting each drive one by one.
Remember, you can only choose either “Don’t move files to Recycle Bin……” or “Custom size……” option as they are radio buttons. It is not possible to setup custom size and choose deleting files permanently without moving to Recycle Bin.
3. Schedule Recycle Bin Cleanup TaskIf you frequently clean up the deleted content manually then this option is for you. You can setup a schedule in Windows to periodically delete the content in Recycle Bin.
Press “Win + I” shortcut keys and open Windows Settings.

Select the number of days from the dropdown under “Delete files in my recycle bin if they have been there for over” section. This settings will remind Windows to clean up your Recycle Bin content for the selected period.

It’s a massive jump of 5x and you will experience the change in boot time, app opening, and overall interaction with OS elements.

To do so, press the Windows key once and search for “Core Isolation.”

16. Disable Game ModeIf you are not a gamer, it’s best to disable the Game Mode altogether. It will stop DVR and other Xbox-related services in the background, speeding up your Windows 11 PC.
For this, open Settings and head to “Gaming.”
Open “Game Mode” and disable the toggle.

Microsoft updates the virus definitions regularly and in my usage, it has proven to be a reliable antivirus.
