Suggested April 2024 How To Import Passwords To Icloud Keychain On Iphone And Mac

In this digital age, I’m sure you log in on different accounts and type your passwords more often than you’d like to admit. This is where password managers come in. These handy tools remember and store all your logins and passwords, so you don’t have to.

Things are even more accessible within the Apple ecosystem, thanks to its own password manager called iCloud Keychain. If you’ve been using a third-party password manager until now and want to migrate everything into iCloud, you’re in the right place. I’ll teach you how to import your passwords to iCloud Keychain.

Before we proceed:

Here’s a little step, ensure that iCloud Keychain is set up and enabled on your Apple device.

On your iPhone:

Open Settings → tap [your name].

    Select iCloud → tap Keychain.

    Toggle the switch on.

On your Mac (macOS Catalina or later):

Note: If using macOS Ventura, System Preferences is replaced by System Settings.

On your Mac (macOS Mojave or earlier):

Manually import passwords to the iCloud Keychain

The most direct yet time-consuming way to import your passwords to your iCloud Keychain is to do them manually. Of course, it’s crucial to remember all your passwords.

You can manually import passwords via iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Since iCloud Keychain keeps all your passwords up to date across your Mac, iPhone, and other Apple devices, anything you enter on one device will work across the board.

How to manually import passwords on iPhone

Here’s how you and find and manage your saved passwords on your iPhone or iPad:

How to manually import passwords on Mac

Import passwords to Safari from Google Chrome or Firefox

To transfer all your passwords to iCloud Keychain, you’ll need to import them to Safari on your Mac. While it sounds pretty straightforward, it isn’t that simple. Why? Unlike other password managers, Safari doesn’t let you import passwords from a CSV file.

However, Safari lets you import passwords from Chrome or Firefox to Safari. So let me discuss the step-by-step process of how you can import your passwords to iCloud Keychain using Safari.

Step 1: Download Chrome or Firefox browser

The first thing you need to do (if you don’t have them yet) is to download Google Chrome or Firefox. One is enough.

Step 2: Get CSV files of passwords from a third-party app or service

The next step is to get the CSV file from the third-party password manager that you’re using. Though the steps might vary according to the app, I’ve covered the most common password managers below.

    For Dashlane:

Go to the Dashlane web app.

Go to My Account → Export Data. You may be prompted to enter your master password.

      Select Export to CSV.

      For Last Pass:

      For 1Password:

Step 3: Import the CSV files of passwords to Chrome or Firefox

After you’re done downloading your CSV file, the next step is to import it to your preferred browser.

      On your Chrome:

Currently, Firefox disabled this feature due to performance issues. However, there’s a workaround for it:

Step 4: How to import passwords from Chrome or Firefox to Safari

Now that you’ve already imported your passwords into either Chrome or Firefox, it’s time to import from one of these browsers to Safari. Compared to the steps above, this one is pretty straightforward:

While there isn’t a way for you to do this on your iPhone or iPad, you don’t have to worry. As long as iCloud Keychain is enabled on all your devices, you should be able to access all your passwords easily.

Not only that, but iCloud Keychain also helps you detect compromised, weak, and reused passwords saved on your Keychain.

The process is similar if you want to export iCloud Keychain passwords from Safari to another browser or third-party password manager. We’ll discuss that in another article.

      Use a third-party tool

If you don’t want the hassle of doing the rigorous steps outlined above, you can employ the help of third-party tools like Tenorshare’s 4uKey. These apps allow you to import all passwords and website accounts from browsers and third-party password managers.

If you’re still on the fence about which password manager to use and don’t want to do the hard job syncing your passwords, you may choose from our list of the best password managers for your iPhone.

Meanwhile, if you’re not so convinced with iCloud Keychain for your Mac, you can also check our roundup of the best password managers for your Mac.

      FAQs

Password managers are essential tools that help you browse and interact with your accounts seamlessly. However, it may become a challenge when your saved items cannot be accessed on other devices or browsers.

If you’re an Apple user, placing everything on iCloud Keychain will ensure that your Mac, iPhone, or iPad will instantly autofill all your logins. You no longer need to force your brain to remember your passwords!

How To Use Icloud Shared Photo Library On Iphone, Ipad, And Mac

Apple introduced an array of interesting features with iOS 16. Among them, the iCloud Shared Photo Library is a significant addition. Once you share an iCloud library with someone, they get owner access and can edit, delete and add captions.

More interestingly, you can make videos or take pictures and upload them directly to the Shared Library. In this article, I’ll show you how to use an iCloud Shared Photo Library on iPhone, iPad, and Mac and share selected photos with friends and family.

      iCloud Shared Photo Library requirements

You can share your library with a maximum of five people at a time.

iCloud Shared Photo Library vs. Shared Album

I won’t blame you if you’re confused between the two ways of sharing photos. Apple should have worked a little harder while naming. While the iCloud Shared Photo Library and Shared Album are somewhat similar, they’re different in a few ways:

iCloud Shared Photo Library iCloud Shared Photo AlbumPlatform and OS supportApple-specific (iOS 16 and Mac with Ventura or later)Apple-specific (iOS 6 or later and Mac with macOS 10.8.2 or later)Subscribers6 max100 maxSmart filterAvailable (you can filter shared photos by date or people)Not availablePhotos app filteringEfficiently filters your photos by librariesShared photos are saved in shared albums

If you haven’t tried Shared Albums, check out these guides on how to make Shared Albums on your Mac or iPhone.

How to set up an iCloud Shared Photo Library in iOS 16

Open settings on your iPhone → Photos.

Tap Shared Library. Then tap Get Started.

Once done adding people, tap Add at the top right.

      Tap Next.

Now, you’ll be presented with three options (sharing preferences):

All My Photos and Videos: Share your entire photo library, except screenshots and hidden or deleted items.

Choose by People or Date: Sort your Shared Library by identifying specific people or dates from your library. You might want to do this for partners, for instance. This also doesn’t include screenshots and hidden or deleted photos.

Choose Manually: This lets you manually select what you share. It’s pretty handy if you only want to hand-pick specific photos. It ensures that you only share the chosen pictures with the recipients.

Tap Next after picking an option.

In the following menu, you’ll see the people with whom you’re about to share your library.

If you’ve selected All My Photos and Videos:

      Select Preview Shared Library.

If you opted to Choose by People or Date:

You’ll get a prompt to identify the added contacts from your photos. Tap this prompt to sort your Shared Library by people. Ensure you select at least two people to continue. Tap Done at the top-right after identifying people.

Next up is sorting pictures by date. Tap Start Date

and set the date you want your Shared Library to span.

      Tap Next.

Then select Preview Shared Library to view the pictures before sharing.

      If you’re choosing pictures manually:

Select the pictures you want to include in your Shared Library by tapping each.

      Tap Add at the top-right.

      Then tap Preview Shared Library.

      Tap Continue at the top-right.

How to save camera pictures to a Shared or Personal Library

Once you share an iCloud Library, you get to select where to save the output while making a video or taking a shot. For instance, if you choose Shared Library while taking a picture or making a video, the iPhone shares the output automatically.

When you open your iPhone camera, look to the top left. You’ll see a double profile icon (showing two persons).

Tap that icon to toggle between Shared and Personal Library for storage.

Filter your pictures by library type in the Photos app

After creating a Shared Library, you can choose to show only the pictures you’ve shared, a personal library, or a mixture of both.

      To do this:

Once in the Photos app, tap the profile icon at the top right.

Next, tap Both Libraries, Personal Library, or Shared Library to filter your pictures accordingly.

How to remove a participant from a Shared Library

You can remove a participant from a Shared Library if you change your mind:

Open Settings on the iPhone or iPad → Photos.

      Tap Shared Library.

Select the contact you want to remove.

Tap Remove from Shared Library. Then select Remove from Shared Library.

How to delete iCloud Shared Photo Library

To delete an iCloud Shared Library:

Go to iPhone Settings → Photos.

      Tap Shared Library.

      Next, tap Delete Shared Library.

Finally, tap Delete Shared Library, then Delete Shared Library again to conclude.

How to set up an iCloud Shared Photo Library in macOS Ventura

Choose your sharing method. You can select: All My Photos and Videos, Choose by People or Date, or Choose Manually.

Then follow the prompt for the option you select to finish setting up.

Filter your photos by libraries on Mac

As with the iPhone, you can also filter your pictures by the library type on Mac. To do this:

Open the Photos app on your Mac.

Now switch between Personal Library and Shared Library to filter pictures accordingly.

That’s it! Now that you know how to set up an iCloud Shared Photo Library in iOS 16 and macOS Ventura, it’s time to start sharing memorable moments with your loved ones. I find this feature sleeker than album sharing since it feels more flexible and less repetitive.

How To Lock Your Notes On Iphone, Ipad, And Mac

The Notes app on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac is a handy little app for jotting down notes of all kinds. So, if you use the app to keep private notes that you want to make sure no one sees, there’s an easy way to keep them secure. You can set up a password for the Notes app on your devices in just a few steps, and this tutorial shows you how.

Set a password for the Notes app

      On iPhone and iPad

      1) Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

      2) Scroll down and tap Notes.

      3) Select Password.

      4) If you have set up the offline On My iPhone account, you will be asked to pick your iCloud or On My iPhone account.

      5) You will see a full-screen alert saying, Lock Notes with Your iPhone Passcode.

Option 1: Tap Use iPhone Passcode and enter your iPhone passcode. This method will use the same device passcode as your Notes lock password. You don’t have to remember any additional passwords.

Option 2: If you share your iPhone or iPad and people know its device passcode, you may want to set a different passcode for your notes which is only known to you. In this case, tap Create Password under the Create a Separate Password heading. Enter the password you want to use, enter it again to verify it, include a hint in case you forget it, and tap Done.

      6) Finally, make sure Use Face ID or Touch ID is enabled.

      On Mac

      How to lock your notes

Keep in mind that the password you set will not apply to all existing notes or notes you create. You must go through the steps to lock the note for it to apply.

      On iPhone and iPad

      1) Open an existing note or create a new one.

      2) Tap the more icon (three dots inside a circle) and hit Lock.

      3) Confirm using Face ID/Touch ID or enter your Notes app password to set a lock on this note.

      4) Finally, tap the open padlock icon to lock it.

      On Mac

      2) Enter your Mac’s Notes app password or verify using Touch ID.

      Open locked notes

Notes that are locked will display with a lock icon next to them on both iOS and macOS.

Note: If your Notes app is synced with iCloud and you lock a note on your iOS device with a custom passcode but then want to view it on your Mac, you’ll need the password you set up when you originally locked the note on iOS.

Change the password for your locked notes

If you choose to use the device passcode as your Notes app password: Change your iPhone, iPad, or Mac’s Lock Screen password, which will automatically change the Notes app password.

If you opted for a separate password: Follow these steps:

What is Reset Password for the Notes app on iPhone?

With the above steps, you can change the password. Besides that, you have the option to reset your Notes app password using your device passcode. After this, all new notes you create will have this new password, but the existing locked notes will continue to use the old password.

When you open an existing locked note using the old Notes app password after resetting the password, you’re asked if you would like to update the old password of these locked notes to the new one. You can tap Update Password or continue to remember both your old and new passwords. If you forget the old password, you will lose access to those locked notes!

How To Block Unwanted Emails On Iphone, Ipad, And Mac

While you don’t see spam emails in your primary mail directory or receive notifications for them, some emails evade spam detection and land in your primary folder. If you are as tired of receiving such emails as I am, there’s a way out! You can block those unwanted emails right from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Keep reading as I show you how to do it!

How to stop unwanted emails using the Apple Mail app

The Mail app on iOS and Mac has an option for blocking an email address. If you’re using this app to manage your emails, you can do so with a few taps.

Block unwanted emails in the Mail app on iPhone and iPad Block unwanted emails in the Mail app on Mac

The best way to block an email address on Mac’s Mail app is to set its rules. It’s as easy as adding an email account to the Mail app. Follow the below steps:

How to block an email address in Gmail

You can block the email ID using the Gmail mobile app and the web browser. Read on to know more.

Block a sender in Gmail app on iPhone and iPad Block a sender in Gmail app on Mac

Stop unwanted email in AOL app on iPhone, iPad, or Mac

The option for stopping an unwanted email address is only available in AOL’s desktop app. While there’s no straightforward option for blocking in the iOS app, you can still mark an email sent from someone as spam. So AOL automatically diverts subsequent messages coming from that address into the spam or junk folder.

Mark an email address as a spammer in iOS AOL app Block an email address using the AOL web browser

The Microsoft Outlook iOS app doesn’t have an option for blocking email addresses as of writing this. Nonetheless, you can block unwanted contact via the browser. Here’s how:

Block unwanted email sender via iPhone Settings

The Settings app not only lets you block someone’s email address but also stops them from calling or sending you an SMS. However, this method only works with the email addresses of people in your iPhone’s contact list. So it’s handy if you want to block someone from reaching you via any of the media listed earlier.

Thus, you might want to ensure that the email address of the person you wish to block also has their email listed on their contact card. Otherwise, you’ll end up blocking only their phone number instead.

Here’s how to block an email address with this feature on iPhone or iPad:

What happens when you block an email on your iPhone?

All previous emails sent by a blocked email address still appear in your primary inbox until you delete them. Whether you block an email address via your iPhone or any other device, the changes sync across them.

However, when you do so, you won’t receive new messages from it anymore, as your mailing provider subsequently sends it to the junk or spam folder or prevents it from reaching you. It’s hard for the sender to know you’ve blocked them, though.

However, they may get a return email that tells them their email landed in the spam or wasn’t delivered.

That wraps up this guide on blocking emails on iPhone!

While I’ve explained how to block an email address on the iPhone, the process is more or less the same for Android devices, perhaps with slight differences. Blocking unwanted private email addresses is often the best option. But if an email comes from a website or company, consider unsubscribing from their mailing lists instead of blocking.

Cloud storage can be incredibly useful, but many users reported that iCloud Drive on Mac isn’t showing all the files. This can be a problem, especially if you use cloud storage frequently, but there’s a way to fix it.

What can I do if iCloud Drive on Mac isn’t showing all files? 1. Change iCloud Drive options

Check Keynote, Numbers, Pages, and Preview.

      2. Just wait it out

Many users reported that iCloud Drive isn’t showing all files on Mac simply because the files aren’t synced. It’s worth mentioning that the synchronization process can take hours if you have a large number of files.

The only solution is just to wait for the process to finish. As we mentioned, this can take hours, sometimes even days, so it might be best to leave your Mac running overnight and check if that solves the problem.

      3. Use the Terminal

      Open the Terminal.

      Run the following commands:

      killall bird

      cd ~/Library/Application Support

      rm -rf CloudDocs

      3. Restart your Mac.

Once your MacBook boots, the syncing process should start immediately. We have to mention that a syncing process can take a couple of hours, so be patient.

If you want, you can monitor the syncing process by using the brctl log -w command.

      4. Change your cloud storage solution

iCloud is the default cloud storage platform for Apple devices but there are plenty of other solutions out there that can offer even better conditions.

For instance, we recommend pCloud, a service that it’s offering storage for both Windows and Mac devices so it’s a lot better if you have gadgets from both worlds at home.

You have two possible options, the Premium storage offers 500 GB and the Premium Plus guarantees 2 TB. Your files will be absolutely safe because each one is stored in 5 copies on different servers.

You can test the platform since pCloud offers trials but it’s also covered by a money-back guarantee policy.
