It’s that time of year. Christmas music, staff parties, plenty of egg nog, and gifts. We could all probably name at least a few apps that we would like to have, but haven’t bought yet. How nice would it be to wake up on Christmas day and have that new app you’ve been wanting?
Luckily, Apple allows you to “gift” an app to a friend. If you didn’t know about gifting apps, I’m going to walk you through how to gift an app, along with some gift-giving tips…
You could always buy your friend an iTunes gift card, but gift cards only come in fixed amounts ($10, $20, etc.). It can be much more thoughtful and personal to give the certain app that a loved one has been wanting.
First, a of couple things to think about:Make sure that the app you are giving will work on your recipient’s iDevice. For example, giving a camera app to an older generation iPod Touch is probably not the brightest idea. Also, make sure that the app you’re giving will run on your recipient’s firmware. If your mom is still running 3.2, chances are most apps won’t work. The same goes with newer apps that will only run on iOS 4.2. It’s always wise to check.
Second, realize that, if you’re sending your gifted app by email, your recipient will receive his/her gift the moment you send it (providing they check their email regularly). If you want them to not receive their app until a specific time (Christmas morning, etc.), you should probably wait until the last minute to press send.
You can gift an app straight on your iPhone, or in iTunes on your computer. I’ll show you how to do both.
For the purpose of this walkthrough, I’m going to give The Incident (an awesome game we recently reviewed) to my friend Steve.
On the iPhone:Note: You can only gift an app through email on the iPhone. In iTunes you have an option to print a redeemable code and present it as a physical gift.
Step 1: Open up the App Store app on your iPhone and find the app you want to give.
Step 2: Scroll to the bottom of the app’s page and tap the “Gift This App” button.
Step 3: Sign into your iTunes account.
Step 4: Review the app you are sending, and read the disclaimer from iTunes.
Step 5: Enter in your information, your recipients information, and a message to send along in the email.
Step 6: Review your order one more time, and send!
In iTunes:Step 1: Find the app you want to give.
Step 3: You will most likely be asked to sign into your iTunes account.
Step 4: You will be taken to the “Give a Gift” screen. Enter all of the appropriate information. You can select to send the gift via email, or print the code yourself.
You’re done!
Your gift will be automatically billed to your iTunes account and you will receive an email receipt just like a normal purchase.
If you want to go the extra mile:There are a ton of ways that you can make something as small as an app meaningful to a loved one. Darrell over at theAppleBlog has a great article on tips for giving apps in creative ways.
For instance, if you’re giving someone a copy of Angry Birds you could also give them a plush toy or a themed iPhone case. You could even create ornaments with app icons and have the coupon code for the app inside the ornament. Get as creative as you want.
Giving apps can be a great last-minute gift idea. If you’re struggling to find all the presents you need for the holidays, consider giving a special app to that special someone.

Harnessing The Benefits Of Mobile Payments This Holiday Season
The holiday shopping season is well underway and on track to be the most mobile-influenced shopping event yet. Retailers that harness the benefits of mobile payments this holiday season are positioned to drive loyalty and repeat visits, and most importantly, earn coveted wallet share.
More than 151 million people across the US shopped either in stores and/or online over Black Friday weekend, according to the “Thanksgiving Weekend Survey,” released by the National Retail Federation (NRF), and conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. These shoppers are influencing the estimated $149.79 billion that companies will spend on “m-commerce” initiatives in 2023, as more shoppers leverage their smart devices to order products and services, especially the benefits of mobile payments, according to “US Mobile Payments Forecast: Driven by User Growth and Broader Acceptance, Transaction Value Will Triple in 2023,” a new report from eMarketer.
The Mobile Movement
These estimates may be three years out, but this holiday season is clearly setting the tone. For example, 63 percent of shoppers used their smartphones to make an online purchase over the holiday weekend, while 56 percent used it in store, according to the “2023 Eptica Retail Holiday Customer Experience Study.”
To ensure that retailers can continue to entice holiday shoppers, they must increase their levels of customer service. One way to do so is to highlight the benefits of mobile payments. Often called digital wallets, mobile payment platforms store users’ debit and credit card numbers, and enable consumers to pay for orders via their smartphones.
Industry pundits are so bullish on the benefits of mobile payments that they predict that mobile transaction value will triple in 2023, due to a growing user base, broader merchant acceptance and consumers increasingly using their phones to make point-of-sale (POS) payments on medium- and high-priced products, according to eMarketer’s report. Specifically, eMarketer anticipates that 2023 will be an inflection point for mobile payments in the US, with transaction value tripling to $27.05 billion.
Budding Benefits
In addition to being an innovative concept, the benefits of mobile payments are increasing. Among the biggest are their ability to:
Streamline Payments. In our time-starved society, anything that can speed up the checkout process — especially payment tendering — is valuable to consumers and retailers alike. It helps consumers move through checkout and out the door faster, while enabling retailers to serve more shoppers without jeopardizing service. The 66 percent of companies that saved time through mobile payments saved a minimum of 150 hours annually, according to the “AT&T Small Business Technology Poll.”
Bolster Loyalty Programs. Loyalty programs are a staple across the retail industry, but reliance on a physical card can become a hindrance. By integrating loyalty cards into mobile wallets, account information and access to stored information is instantaneous with the swipe of a mobile wallet. Earned loyalty points can also be stored — or redeemed — directly in the wallet.
Improve Customer Engagement. While loyalty programs have been a “go-to” method of analyzing customer behavior and purchase correlations, mobility is stepping up efforts. In fact, mobile payments give companies access to customer-specific information, such as preferred payment account, product choices and visit frequency — all details that can be merged with marketing messages targeting specific merchandise to individual shoppers.
Secure Information. Mobility appeals to shoppers’ sense of ease, but it also appeals to a new wave of hackers. More than 5 billion Android mobile apps, including mobile payment apps, are vulnerable to remote manipulation, according to Verizon’s “2023 Data Breach Investigations Report.” As a result, retailers should integrate innovations, including geo-location and customer validation, at the device and host levels to validate every step of the transaction and the environment.
Options Abound
More retailers are preparing to support seamless user experiences, as well as accept more options, with every POS payment terminal upgrade. New players, such as Android Pay, American Express Checkout and MasterCard’s MasterPass Digital Wallet, continue to enter the marketplace on an almost daily basis. Now Samsung Pay promises to be one of the most versatile. Samsung Pay leverages NFC, MST, fingerprint verification and digital tokenization, all of which support quick and secure mobile payments. Samsung Pay enables consumers to utilize mobile devices and the evolving mobile payment options at existing POS terminals.

Not only does this bridge the gap between speedy integration and consumer adoption, it also requires no retailer capital expenditure (CAPEX) investment. Samsung Pay is already live in the US, UK and South Korea.
The integration of mobile payment products clearly will drive transaction volume over the next several years. During the 2023 holiday shopping season however, retailers should use mobile payments as an opportunity to drive loyalty, repeat visits, gain wallet share and differentiate their brands during the industry’s most critical sales period.

How To Give Control In Teams To Switch Presenter
Microsoft Teams continues to add new features and ways to engage meeting attendees. Sometimes when you’re a presenter in a Teams meeting, you’ll want to allow someone else to present or give control to someone else in the meeting. We’ll run through the different ways to present and how to give control in Teams to someone else.
The information below applies to all Microsoft Teams meetings, including breakout sessions and webinars. Some features, like PowerPoint Live, are only available while using the desktop version of Teams and cannot be accessed if you’re running Teams in a web browser.

Sharing Content in a Teams MeetingWhen you’re in a Teams meeting and select the Share button, you can choose to share content in different ways:
Share your screen: This option will allow meeting attendees to see anything that’s on the monitor you select.
Share a specific window: This option will only allow attendees to see the specific window you choose to share.
Create a Whiteboard: This option will launch the Whiteboard app so meeting attendees can collaborate.
Share a PowerPoint: Select a specific PowerPoint file to present to meeting attendees.
When you choose to share a PowerPoint presentation (rather than sharing the specific window the PowerPoint is in), meeting attendees will get a few extra features, and so will you.
If you don’t want attendees to move through the presentation on their own, you can toggle that feature off by selecting the eye icon on the control panel that appears on the presentation.
When you share a presentation via PowerPoint live, you’ll be able to see your notes, slides, and the audience while you present. This is a feature that Teams users have been clamoring for, and we’re thrilled to see that Microsoft listened.
You’ll also get access to multi-colored laser pointers, pens, and highlighters to aid in your presentation.
Roles in Teams MeetingsFirst, let’s get clear about the various roles available in Teams meetings. The person who creates the link to join the meeting is the organizer. That person has ultimate control and can do things that no other attendee can do like manage breakout rooms.
The organizer can designate other meeting attendees as presenters. Only the organizer and presenters can share content during the meeting. Besides the organizer and presenters, everyone else in the meeting is called an Attendee.
A web page will open where you can choose who will be able to present during the meeting.
If you choose Specific people, next type in the names of the people who you want to be Presenters.
How To Promote an Attendee to Presenter in TeamsIf you’re the meeting organizer, it’s easy to promote a meeting attendee to presenter during the meeting itself.
Find the attendee in the participant list.
Select the More options (three dots) link next to the attendee’s name.
Select Make a presenter.
Now that person will be able to share content during the meeting.
Presenting vs. Taking ControlIt’s important to understand the distinction between presenting in a Teams meeting and taking control of shared content.
Apps like GoToMeeting and Zoom have ways for meeting attendees to take control of another attendee’s computer. This usually happens in remote support sessions. So far, Microsoft Teams has not provided that functionality. However, Teams does allow presenters to give limited control to another attendee, and attendees can request control from presenters.
Obviously, you should only give control in Teams to someone you trust.
How To Give Control in TeamsIn Microsoft Teams, if you want someone else in your meeting to edit a file you’re sharing or take over your presentation, you can give control to that person. It’s like adding a second, simultaneous presenter. You’ll both be able to control what’s being shared. You can take back control any time you want.
You can only give control to someone else in your Teams meeting when you’re presenting. Mouse over the content you’re sharing to activate the sharing toolbar and select Give control.
From there, select the person you want to give control to. The person you want to give control to will receive a notification letting them know that you want to share control of the presentation with them. When you share control with someone else, they’ll be able to make edits and other changes to the shared screen.
If you want to take control back from them, simply select the Cancel Control button.
How To Request Control in TeamsRequesting control while someone’s presenting in Teams works similarly. Simply select the Request control button. The presenter can then choose to Allow or Deny your control request.
When you no longer want control, you can select the Release control button.

How To Copy Your Iphone Backups To An External Hdd
In this post, we’ll explain how you can copy your iPhone backup from a Mac to an external hard disk.
Can you back up your iPhone directly to an external HDD?
No. macOS only allows you to backup contents from your iPhone to your Mac’s local storage. There’s no option to save these backups onto an external HDD directly but you can move existing backups from your Mac to your external storage at any time. Moving backups to external storage will help clear space from your Mac for future backups and other files. This way, you can store a bunch of your iPhone backups and use them to restore your device back to any of its previous states.

How to copy your iPhone backups to an external HDD
While macOS doesn’t offer you a way to create backups of your iPhone directly onto an external HDD, you can still copy the backups you’ve already created on your Mac and move them to another hard disk. The process involves connecting your iPhone wirelessly over Wi-Fi, finding the iPhone backup on your Mac, and then seamlessly transferring the data onto an external HDD.

Step 1: Pair your iPhone to Mac wirelessly
Before you can find your iPhone backup, you need to connect your iPhone to the Mac, so you can locate its backup location. While the easiest way to connect your iPhone to the Mac is via a wired connection, you may want to make it more convenient by letting the two devices stay connected over the same Wi-Fi network. We have a dedicated post (10 Ways to Pair your iPhone With Macbook) on the same, so you can follow Method #2 to connect your iPhone to the Mac wirelessly.
To explain the steps, in brief, you can establish a wireless connection between your iPhone and Mac by first connecting them with a Lightning-to-USB cable and then opening the Finder app.
When you do that, your iPhone will show up inside the Finder app even when it’s not connected to the USB cable as long as both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Step 2: Locate iPhone backup on your Mac
Once you’ve connected your iPhone to the Mac via Wi-Fi, you can now proceed to find where your iPhone backups are saved. To do that, open the Finder app on macOS.
You’ll see a list of the iPhone backups that you’ve created on your Mac inside the Device Backups box.
A new Finder window will open showing the selected backup’s folder highlighted among other backups. You need to keep this window open for copying the contents over to external storage.
Step 3: Move backup to external HDD
When you’ve located your iPhone backup on the Mac, moving it is as easy as copy-pasting contents from one device to another. First, connect your external HDD to the Mac using the provided cable. When the storage device is connected, open it in Finder and go to the location where you want to move the iPhone backup inside it.
Now, in the Finder window where your iPhone backup is stored, select any number of backups that are available inside the Backup folder on your Mac.
Once selected, drag the selected content from this folder to your desired location inside your external HDD’s window.
Your iPhone backups will now be copied over to the external storage device and you can use it in the future to restore your iPhone to a previous state.
How to clear iPhone backups from a Mac
If you’ve copied your iPhone backup to external storage, you may no longer need to keep it stored on your Mac. By clearing it, you can not only save storage for other files but you can also create more backups on your iPhone. To clear your iPhone backups from the Mac, open the Finder app on macOS and locate your iPhone from the left sidebar under “Locations”.
The selected iPhone backup will now be removed from your Mac. Since you’ve saved a copy of it on your external HDD, you can move its contents to the Backup folder on your Mac to restore it.
How to move iPhone backup from external HDD to Mac
If you wish to restore your iPhone to a previous state using a backup that you copied over to an external HDD, the Finder app doesn’t let you restore it directly from the external storage. You are instead required to transfer the backup back to its original location on your Mac and then perform the restore.
To move an iPhone backup from external storage to your Mac, connect the HDD back to your Mac and locate the backup that you copied from the Mac before.
Once located, move the backup from the external store to this location on your Mac – ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ by dragging and dropping the backup folder.
If done successfully, the backup should show up inside the Finder app when you access your iPhone from the Mac.

Use Terminal To Run Multiple Copies Of The Same App (Mac)On a Mac machine, the Terminal app lets you perform a number of tasks using various commands. It includes a command that allows you to run two or more instances of an app on your machine.
That way, you can launch an app multiple times, each with their own independent container. Each instance will be isolated from the others so there won’t be any mixing up of anything.
Here’s how you do it.
Launch the Terminal app from the Launchpad.
The command will open an instance of your chosen app on your Mac. Run the command multiple times to launch multiple instances of that app on your machine.
Launch Multiple Instances Of The Same App Using AppleScriptThe Terminal method works just fine but the main drawback of the method is that you need to run the command each time you want to launch an instance of an app.
If you often need multiple instances of an app running at the same time, using Terminal to do the task may not be the ideal way.
Press Command + S to save the script. Enter a name for the script, select Application from the File Format menu, and hit Save.
Now the script you’ve just saved and it’ll do the task for you. You can create the script for any of your apps as all it requires as an input is the path of the app on your machine.
Run Multiple Instances Of An App Using Parallel Space (Android)Compared to Mac, the ability to run multiple instances of an app on an Android device is more useful. The reason is because you can run your favorite instant messaging apps like WhatsApp and Viber with different phone numbers at the same time on your device.
There’s no Terminal on Android so you’ll need to grab an app from the Google Play Store. The app is called Parallel Space.
Install and launch the app, then go through the welcome screens. When the main screen appears, choose the app you’d like to clone and tap on Add to Parallel Space at the bottom.
Tap on the app icon on the following screen and grant the required permissions.
The app will launch as if it’s the first time you’ve used it on your device.
Open Two Instances Of An App Using 2Accounts On AndroidIf the Parallel Space app didn’t work for you for some reason, you have another great app to help you create multiple instances of your apps.
Enter 2Accounts, that lets you do the exact same thing as the Parallel Space app.
Grab the app from the official Google Play Store and install it on your device.
Open the app, choose the app you’d like to run multiple instances of, and tap on Enable at the bottom.
Tap on your app on the following screen and an instance of it will launch on your device.
You may now add your additional accounts to the newly created instance of the app and start using them right away.
If you no longer need an instance of an app, simply tap and hold on the app in either of the above apps and select Delete. It will delete the instance along with the associated files from your device.
