Internet Explorer may not be the favorite browser among geeks, but sadly, it is still the most widely used browser in the World. In this article, let us take a look at the common problems in Internet Explorer (IE8 specifically) and its fixes.

Some of the common problems seen in IE8 include:

You have more toolbars that you desire. Some of them are uninstallable.

Your searches doesn’t look normal. You are being redirected to another search provider.

The home page changes without our knowledge.

1. Remove Uninstallable Toolbars

Occasionally, when you install a new program and you didn’t read the fine print, it will automatically install toolbar(s) in your IE. These toolbars are often annoying, disruptive and take up valuable screen estate. In most cases, you can uninstall them via the Add/Remove Program panel, but there are times when they are very persistent and refuse to disappear from your browser.

In this example, we are going to uninstall the Alexa toolbar (this is only for illustration purpose. in no way did I mean that Alexa toolbar is not useful). The tool we are going to use is Autoruns.

Autoruns is a tool designed by Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell, you can download the program using this link: Autoruns for Windows

This tool can configure what programs run during startup. It can also be used to find out what plugins are installed in Internet Explorer.

To use the utility, run the application as Administrator:

Autoruns classify the objects, basically dynamic link libraries and programs, using different tabs. Just go to “Internet Explorer” tab:

In the screenshot above, we can see that the tab is split into three groups.

First group contains the browser helper objects. They are plugins designed to provide a new functionality.

Second group is a list of the toolbar in the browser

Third group are extensions.

Done. You have just removed an uninstallable toolbar.

2. Remove Search Providers

If you see an unwanted search provider (as shown in the image below),

Internet Explorer doesn’t allow you to remove the default provider, so before you can remove it, you have to set another search provider as the default.

Now you can remove “Alexa Web Search“.

3. Reset Internet Explorer Settings

If all the tricks don’t work, the ultimatum is to reset your Internet Explorer to its default settings.

Using the search function in Windows 7, search for “internet options“. Alternatively, you can also access the Internet Options from the browser File menu.

Now go to the “Advanced Tab” and select “Reset“:

You need to quit all browser windows before using this function. You will see a popup window explaining the stuff that are going to be reseted:

This should restore your IE back to its original state.

6 Common Problems With The Samsung Galaxy S5 And How To Fix Them

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was one of the most anticipated phones this year. Designed to be powerful and professional, it’s as feature-packed as ever, and certainly has a lot to offer. However, just like any other smartphone, the Galaxy S5 is not without its issues. With that in mind, we take a look at some of the most common problems that users have been experiencing with their Samsung Galaxy S5, and offer some potential solutions on how to fix them.

Disclaimer: The Samsung Galaxy S5 is still a great phone and customers should not be put off by the problems listed below. You will likely not face any of these issues.

This problem can take place after the phone has been exposed to water or experienced some form of shock from an accidental bump or drop. If your phone has suffered physical damage, then your only option will be to try and get a replacement handset.

Make sure that you are using the equipment that came with your handset. You should be using a wall charger and USB cable that was approved and sent by Samsung, as other accessories may use different voltage parameters and could cause charging problems.

Check whether the outlet is faulty by trying a different power outlet, or attempting to charge another device from the same power outlet.

Check that your USB cable is working properly by attempting to connect your handset directly to your computer or laptop.

Make sure that the protective case or screen protector you are using is not interfering with the touchscreen. Remove your case or screen guard and see whether the issue has been resolved.

Restart your phone by holding down the power key until your device vibrates and turns off, then turn it back on. This will delete any temporary files which could be causing the problem.

Go into your settings – display to see whether enabling increased touch sensitivity helps.

Make sure that your touchscreen is not dirty by cleaning it with a microfiber cloth.

Attempt to remove applications or widgets that could be causing the problem, or factory reset the phone and then selectively reinstall all necessary applications.

If you have completed a factory reset and you are still having problems, then the issue could be with the hardware or operating system within your phone. In this case you will have to approach your retailer or Samsung for a replacement.

Problem #3 – Phone doesn’t turn on

Some people have reported that the phoneoccasionally refuses to boot. Although buttons light up as they are expected to, the screen stays blank.

Potential Solutions:

Try pressing on the battery in your handset to make sure that all of the pins are making contact with the phone.

Restart your phone.

When you can access your phone, try going into settings – accessibility –vision – dark screen, and ensure that this has been turned off.

Try removing your protective case or cover to see whether excess pressure is having an effect on the way that your phone functions.

A rogue application could be causing the problem, so attempt booting your phone into safe mode. If you no longer suffer with the issue in safe mode, then try doing a factory reset and being selective about the applications that you reinstall, or remove your applications one by one.

Back up any files that you do not want to lose and perform a factory reset. If this does not work, then you may need to contact your retailer or Samsung for a replacement.

Try turning your router and your Galaxy S5 on and off again.

Make sure that you are not in power saving mode, as this can have an effect on your Wi-Fi connection.

Go into your settings -Wi-Fi, and select the router that you want your phone to connect to. Choose the forget option, and set the connection up again from the beginning.

Use the Wi-Fi Analyzer app to determine which channel is best for you to use in your location, then go into your IP address and change the channel.

Check the MAC filtering that exists on your router to ensure that your Galaxy S5 is listed.

Problem #5 – Bluetooth doesn’t connect

Some users of the Galaxy S5 encounter problems when they try to connect their phone to their cars or other devices through Bluetooth.

Go into apps – settings – application manager – Bluetooth and select force stop. Tap to clear cache then restart your phone.

Check that your Bluetooth car system, or the device that you are trying to connect to is working properly by resetting it. You can cause the device to forget all pairings, and do the same thing on your Galaxy S5, before setting up the connection again.

Hold the power key down on your phone until it vibrates and turns off, then remove your SIM card and take out the battery. Leave the phone alone for some time, then replace the SIM card and the battery and turn the phone back on to see whether the problem has been resolved.

Check the microphone on your phone. On the Galaxy S5, this is the small hole towards the bottom of your handset. You can use compressed air to blow into the hole and ensure that no crumbs or dust particles are blocking the sound.

Restart your phone.

If you are using a Bluetooth accessory, turn your Bluetooth off to check if this makes any difference. You may have to go into your settings and have your phone forget paired devices if this does not work.

If you continue to suffer from the same problem, then you will have to request a replacement.

8 Common Http Errors And How To Fix Them

If you have been a regular Internet user, you will encounter websites with errors. Most of these errors come with an error code that is hard to understand for the average web user. That’s where this guide comes in as we help break down common HTTP errors and what you can do when you encounter them. Let’s dive right in!

What are HTTP Error Codes?

Before diving into specific cases, it’s helpful to have a little background on what these codes are and why you receive them. In a non-technical way, HTTP codes are a message that is being sent to a website’s server and back to the browser to indicate whether a request has or can be fulfilled.

There are generally five levels:

1xx: Informational (what is happening when a browser or server request has been sent)

2xx: Success (things are working as intended)

3xx: Redirect (the requested page has moved to a new URL)

4xx: This is a client error that indicates something is wrong with the way your browser, be it Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc. has asked the website server to see a page

5xx: This server error indicates that something is wrong on the server-side and how it tried to send the website to the browser

With that quick and easy read on what an HTTP error code is, let’s take a look at some of the more common ones you will experience. Keep in mind that these codes are not for anyone with technical knowledge, website managers, etc. How to fix these codes is very much in line with what a typical browsing experience would look like.

What are Some Common Fixes?

Before diving into more specific error codes, it’s important to know some of the common steps that you can take to fix any website error you encounter. While not true for all error codes, for the most part, your first act should be to try and refresh the page. It’s entirely possible that something happened while the page was trying to load and a refresh will resolve. Another common fix is to double-check the website address. It is possible that you typed the website URL incorrectly, leaving out or adding an additional number, letter or symbol.

If you have tried both a page refresh and double-checked everything is spelled correctly, clearing your cache is the next best step. Doing so is incredibly easy and it won’t affect your browsing experience. Every browser can have its cache cleared and it takes mere seconds to do so.

1. HTTP Error 401 – Unauthorized (Authorization Required)

In an instance where you see this HTTP error code, it likely means that the page you are trying to visit requires a user ID and password. If it’s a page you’ve already logged into and still see the error, it means the user credentials you entered are not valid.

The fix might just require returning back to the main page of the website, locating the login screen, and re-entering your valid credentials. Separately, as is the case with a common fix, try reloading the page, deleting the cache and/or close and reopen the browser and then attempting to log in again. If you are absolutely sure your credentials work and the issue isn’t on your end, reach out to the website administrator for assistance.

2. HTTP Error 403 – Forbidden

When you land on a page with this error, it basically means you are on a page you don’t have the authorization to view. There are a variety of reasons you can and will encounter this message but the overall takeaway is “this page is not for you”.

3. HTTP Error 404 – Page Not Found

Resolving this issue is as easy as checking that you have entered the URL correctly. Alternatively, try a Google search for the website and see if the page has recently moved. Another possible solution is to move up one directory level in the URL to see if the issue is resolved. For example, if you are going to chúng tôi and you see the 404 error, try again with chúng tôi and see if the error resolves itself.

4. HTTP Error 408 – Request Timeout

While not as common, a 408 error means that the website took longer to load than the server was willing to wait. Because of that, the 408 error was provided to the browser. This error is different from a 504 error as that is server specific while 408 is also impacted by the user client.

If and when you see this error, start by checking if the URL is correctly typed. Make sure to watch out for domain name spelling, backslash placement, etc. Does the URL have any particular character strings? Make sure those too are correctly spelled/inserted. Try and search the site via Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo and see if you can find the website this way.

5. HTTP Error 500 – Internal Server Error

It’s important to note that errors in the 5xx range are generally based on an issue from the website and/or its server. In other words, the issue isn’t a spelling error with the url. If you see this message, it’s likely that the website encountered some type of unexpected error trying to reach a server.

As indicated above, resolving this error resolves more around the webmaster resolving errors with a server, website code, database, etc. Given that, for the general web user, you have to wait for a fix. It could also be due to high traffic so keep refreshing the page periodically.

6. HTTP Error 502 – Bad Gateway

When you see a 502 Bad Gateway error, that’s a good indication the issue is server-based and not specific toward your setup. That means no matter which device or operating system you use to try and visit a website, the same error will appear. Generally, this error appears when two servers are not talking to one another. However, in some cases, a 502 error can appear because your browser of choice thinks there is an issue.

To troubleshoot, start by trying to refresh the page. If that fails, the next best option is to try a different browser or a different device. This will help nail down where the problem exists and if something is happening on the user end and not just server-side. Separately, try and reboot your computer to see if that also provides a quick fix. Some online sleuths have nailed down browser extensions as a potential 502 error cause. Because of that, if all else fails, try and disable browser extensions one by one to see if a fix is found.

7. HTTP Error 503 – Service Unavailable (Service Temporarily Unavailable)

Whenever you see this message appear as you try to visit a website, you can attribute the cause to meaning that the server is not available at the moment. In most cases, the server might be too busy and suffering under heavy traffic or it could mean routine maintenance is being performed.

Given that the issue is not user-based, you can try to fix it by refreshing the site. As these issues are (likely) temporary, trying the page again a few minutes later is the best way to get on the webpage. Additionally, you can try to restart your modem/router as well as your computer, smartphone, tablet, etc. and see if the same 503 error persists.

8. HTTP Error 504 – Gateway Timeout

Should you see HTTP Error 504, that’s an indicator that the website you are attempting to visit is timing out. Said a different way, the website and its server are not properly communicating so this error appears.

As with the cases above, refresh the site to see if the problem fixes itself quickly. If not, you can try troubleshooting by resetting/starting your router/modem, make sure your DNS settings are set up correctly, etc. If all else fails, contacting the website administrator is likely the next best step.

Fix Network & Internet Connection Problems In Windows 11/10

If you find that your internet connection in Windows 11 or Windows 10 has suddenly stopped working or that you are facing certain Network and Internet connectivity problems, here are a few troubleshooting steps you may want to try.

You can use the following methods or tools to fix Network & Internet connection problems in Windows 11/10:

Renew IP address

Flush DNS cache

Run Network & Internet Diagnostic Troubleshooters

Enable or Disable IPv6

Reset Winsock

Reset TCP/IP

Reset Hosts file

Reset Windows Firewall settings to default

Reset your browser

Run Network Reset.

1] Renew IP address

IPConfig is a tool built into Windows, that displays all current TCP/IP network configuration values and refreshes Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol DHCP and Domain Name System DNS settings. You can access this tool via the command line. If you have a bad IP address, then renewing your IP address this way may help solve your internet problems.

Type cmd in start search and press Ctrl-Shift-Enter. If you wish, just out of curiosity, you may type ipconfig and hit Enter, to view the status of the computer’s Internet Protocol or IP address.

Type ipconfig /release to let go of the current IP address.

Next, type ipconfig /renew to obtain a new IP address.

If you get an error message when you Run the “Ipconfig /Renew” command see KB810606.

If you recurrently face this problem, then you can have it renewed on every start-up, by creating the following .bat file and placing it in your startup folder.

Open Notepad and type:

ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew

2] Flush DNS cache

The Network & Internet Diagnostic & Repair Tool in Windows 11/10/8/7/Vista will help you identify the potential issues preventing network connectivity, and it automatically takes appropriate steps toward correcting them. If a computer on the network loses Internet connectivity, you can graphically see which connection is down and then use Network Diagnostics to help determine the cause of the problem and find possible solutions.

Type the following commands in Run box and hit Enter to open the required Troubleshooters directly:

To open Internet Connections Troubleshooter:

msdt.exe -id NetworkDiagnosticsWeb

To open the Incoming Connections Troubleshooter:

msdt.exe -id NetworkDiagnosticsInbound

To open the Network Adapter Troubleshooter:

msdt.exe -id NetworkDiagnosticsNetworkAdapter

Go here if the Troubleshooter throws up Windows couldn’t automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter message.

4] Enable or Disable IPv6

Enable or Disable IPv6 to solve Internet connectivity problems. By default, Windows prefers IPv6 over IPv4. So if you are having problems using IPv6 to connect to some websites, you can configure your Windows to select IPv4 instead of IPv6.

5] Reset Winsock

Reset Winsock and see if that helps. Windows Sockets or Winsock is a technical specification or a programming interface which decides how any program handles input/output requests for Internet applications, i.e., TCP/IP in Windows.

6] Reset TCP/IP

Reset TCP/IP and see if that works. TCP/IP is one of the core components required by your Windows computer to connect successfully to the Internet.

7] Reset Hosts file

Reset Hosts file and see if that helps. The Hosts file in Windows 11/10/8/7, is used to map host names to IP addresses. If for some reason, you find that your Hosts file has been compromised or corrupted and you cannot connect to the internet, you can if you wish, reset Hosts file back to default.

8] Reset Windows Firewall settings to default

Reset Windows Firewall settings to default. This will help if the firewall ahs been configured wrongly and it blocks connections.

9] Reset your browser

The Network Reset feature in Windows will help you reinstall Network adapters and reset Networking Components to their original settings.

Use Hp Print And Scan Doctor To Fix Common Printer Problems

I’m a huge fan of HP printers and I think overall they are the best printers for businesses as well as consumers. However, they come bundled with the worst possible software that not only bloats and slows down your system, but doesn’t really help all that much in connecting your computer to your printer, which is the main goal of any printer.

Nowadays, a lot of printers are wireless or at least network-capable, meaning you can plug in a network cable and print without actually having to connect the printer to your computer via USB. It’s absolutely ridiculous if you buy a new printer today and it forces you to connect it to your computer for setup.

Unfortunately, setting up a network or wireless printer is far more complicated just because you now have to deal with all kinds of equipment in between the two devices. Even if you can print to your wireless printer today, you may not be able to a month from now if the IP address accidentality changes or if someone turns on a security feature on your router that prevents communication between devices on the network. There are literally hundreds of things that can go wrong.

In fact, I’ve previously written about troubleshooting WiFi printers and gave six possible solutions for fixing most WiFi printing issues. However, there are some issues that are just manufacturer-specific and at that point, it’s a good idea to simply use the diagnostic tools they have provided.

HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free software utility that helps you quickly address most printing and scanning issues with HP printers. This utility works on everything from Windows XP to Windows 10. Unfortunately, there is no Mac version of this utility yet.

The program checks a bunch of stuff and actually replaces four separate utilities that HP used to have for diagnosing problems with printers. Here’s a quick list of items checked:

Connectivity – If connected via USB, it makes sure the printer is connected properly and if connected via the network, it makes sure your computer is actually connected to the network.

Device Status – Checks to make sure there are no printer errors like out of ink, paper jams, feed issues, etc.

Driver Check – Makes sure the driver is not corrupt or missing.

Device Manager – Checks for issues in Device Manager that could be causing issues.

Print Queue – Clears the print queue if there are stuck jobs.

Port Match/Device Conflicts – Checks the port settings for the printer and makes sure there are no device conflicts with the printer like other drivers or printer brands.

Now what if you’re having issues even getting the printer to show up properly? In that case, the program won’t be able to find your printer and you’ll see this screen:

Depending on how you want to connect the printer, the program will give you tips for getting the printer connected. Unfortunately, until you get the printer online at least, the program can’t help you very much. If you have a wireless or network printer and have no idea why it’s not getting an IP address, then connect it to the computer using a USB cable first.

The program will go ahead and start analyzing the printer and your system to see what issues are preventing the printer from printing or scanning. If it finds problems, it will list them out and help you resolve them. If everything is ok, you should see a bunch of green check marks and the option to print a test page.

Lastly, the program has some last resort options if the printing issues have not been resolved. You can troubleshoot the firewall, uninstall and reinstall the printing software and get support information for your specific product.
