Introduction to MariaDB Mysqldump

Web development, programming languages, Software testing & others

What is MariaDB Mysqldump?

When using mysqldump in MariaDB, it generates a flat-file format file that contains SQL statements. Execute these statements to restore the database to its state as it was when the backup was created. To use mysqldump, you need the necessary privileges to access the database and its entities, including tables and views.

Use mysqldump

We can use mysqldump on a particular database only provided you have the access privilege of SELECT command on the tables and views of the database that you want to dump and take a backup of. You can dump one or more than one databases simultaneously. You can make use of the following syntax for dumping the database to create a dump file for backup purposes in MariaDB –

For dumping one or more than one database present on the same server –

For dumping all databases present on the server –

For dumping one or more tables of a database, use the below mysqldump syntax –

Fire the above command on the MariaDB shell or command prompt. Let’s discuss in detail the terminologies used in the command above:

Database name – This represents the database name for which you want to take the backup.

sampleBackupFile – The name which you want your dump file to have. Note that it should have the extension of .sql only.

To obtain complete details about the options used in the above syntax, you can execute the following command on the command prompt:

Mysqldump -u root p -help that generates the output shown in the below image –

As you can observe from the above output, the list of the options used for specifying additional information that can be specified in mysqldump is huge; we can even go for exporting the same in a new file which can be done by making use of the below command on command prompt –

The file created with name temp looks as shown below after opening –

To restore the data that is backup by using the mysqldump command, we can make use of the restore command, whose syntax is as shown below –

MySQL name of database < name of backup file.sql

name of the database is the database you want your data to restore.

Name of the backup file – The file created using the mysqldump command.

How to Backup and Restore?

Let us now understand how we can implement backup and restore by using the mysqldump command with the help of one example. We have one database named educba, which contains the table named developers stored in it. This table has some records. To check the complete contents of the developer’s table, let us fire the select query on the developer’s table –

Select * from educba.developers;

Note that we have already executed the educba; command to ensure our current database is educba. We can see that the developer’s table contains the following rows as its contents –

Consider that we have to take the backup of the educba database having only one table developer in it. You can achieve this by utilizing the following mysqldump command:

When you execute the above command, it will generate the following output on the terminal and create a file named “backupOfEducba.sql”. This file will contain all the commands required for restoring the database:

After opening the chúng tôi file, you can observe the following contents in it –

Let us now see how we can restore the data on any other database with the help of the dump flat file generated from the mysqldump command and restore command. Create the database named educba in a new server. Fire restore command. Our statement will be as shown below –

mysql -u root -p <backupOfEducba.sql

The output of the execution of the following command is as shown below –

After that, we can confirm the existence of the same tables in the educba database that we have created in a new database.

MariaDB mysqldump command is used to backup existing databases or databases and restore them when needed in case of data loss due to unavoidable circumstances.

How To Restore Your Mac From A Time Machine Backup In Recovery Mode

Suppose a software update or an app you installed has corrupted system files and as a result your Mac refuses to start up properly, what do you do?

Those who have planned ahead and created a bootable USB install disk for El Capitan can do a clean install of macOS, and then restore their Mac from the most recent Time Machine backup.

But there’s a better way to deal with such situations. In this tutorial, we’ll educate you on booting into macOS’ Recovery Mode and using the built-in recovery tools to restore your Mac from a Time Machine backup.

Recovery Mode (and its online-based sibling, called Internet Recovery) contains all the tools you need to troubleshoot your Mac, repair disk errors, set a firmware password, restore the computer from a Time Machine backup and more.

Before restoring your Mac because of a problem with your startup disk, you should try to repair the disk with Disk Utility, or replace it, before following these instructions.

How to restore your Mac from a Time Machine backup in Recovery Mode

Make sure your Time Machine backup disk is connected and turned on. If you use a network-attached storage device or Time Capsule as the backup disk for Time Machine, make sure that both the backup disk and your Mac are on the same network.

1) In the Apple menu choose Restart, or power on your Mac.

2) As your Mac restarts, hold down the Command (⌘) – R combination after the startup chime plays and hold the keys until the Apple logo appears.

After a few minutes, the Mac OS X Utilities window should appear.

Tip: If you see macOS’ login window or the desktop, you didn’t press the keyboard combination early enough so restart your Mac and try again.

4) On the next screen, you will be prompted to select between restoring the computer from an external backup disk, a Time Capsule or a network backup disk. Depending on your configuration, do one of the following:

If you’re using a Time Capsule or network-attached storage, you may be prompted to enter the name and password you use to connect to the backup disk.

Tip: To restore your Mac to the state it was in before you installed the new version of macOS, choose the most recent backup that occurred before you installed the macOS update.

5) Select the date and time of the backup you want to restore and follow the instructions. Restoring the entire system can take some time make yourself a sandwich.

After your system has been restored and the Mac starts up, Time Machine will perform a full backup at the next scheduled backup time before incremental backups are resumed.

Using Recovery Mode to restore your Mac from a Time Machine backup will reinstall macOS and restore your personal files. To copy specific files, settings and macOS user accounts in your Time Machine backup to another Mac, use Migration Assistant.

Is your Mac backed up?

If you have an external hard drive or use Apple’s Time Capsule, you’re wholeheartedly recommended to enable Time Machine in System Preferences. Should your Mac’s startup disk get damaged or is replaced, you will be able to recover your entire system from a Time Machine backup and continue right where you left off without skipping a beat.

Everything you can do in Recovery Mode

Both Recovery Mode and its online counterpart, Internet Recovery, provide the same set of recovery tools which let you accomplish the following maintenance tasks:

How To Unbrick Or Restore T

Well, what we can do now is try to restore your Moto X back to stock using a firmware so that all bad partitions on the device are fixed and it doesn’t bootloops and restarts normally.

And well, depending on what you were trying to do, and more importantly how, it could either be soft-bricked or hard-bricked — in latter case, as sad as it is, you maybe out of luck, man!

What’s Hard-brick and Soft-brick?

Even though rare, and when you are like set to be doomed, your Moto X might get hard-bricked. In which case, the Moto X won’t boot into bootloader mode — it won’t respond to key combinations you are trying to make it to boot normally or to bootloader or recovery mode.

Hard-brick results in one dead Android device. Yes, it’s sick, and worrying. You may have to look for a JTAG service locally; the person with good knowledge of that may be able to revive it.

Hard-brick is rare, it may happen only when power supply gets disturbed of computer and/or Android device when something is being installed/updated on the device. Or, when you totally mis-do things totally recklessly. That’s why you have to be very careful with even the easiest steps.

Let’s see soft-brick now. Normally, a brick is a soft-brick, which means your device isn’t completely dead, that it is just not able to boot normally and gets stuck somewhere. And, bootloader mode is working.

How to identify bricked Moto X?

If your Moto X can boot into bootloader mode, then it means it’s a soft-brick. If it cannot, then it’s hard-bricked.

Cases of soft-brick:

Bootloop: Your Moto X is not restarting properly and gets stuck at logo, and reboots again and again on it. Mostly occurs when you flash something bad.

Corrupted but working: Your Moto X can’t power On, but is entering the Bootloader mode and/or Recovery mode on pressing the key combinations. That is, it’s responding to key combos, at the least.

Any other case: As it doesn’t matter what happened, as long as you can access Bootloader mode using the key combos specified in the unbrick Moto X guide below, you’re good — no reasons to worry!

Just install the stock firmware using the guide below and your Moto X shall be up and running coolly soon enough! you must be able to enter bootloader mode using the key combinations specified in the guide below.

Cases of Hard-brick:

Well, if you can’t enter bootloader mode using the key combinations specified in the guide below, you got a worry — your device is hard-bricked. You can’t repair it yourself unless you are able to reboot it into bootloader mode.

Your best hope is JTAG: find a local service provider who can use the JTAG for you and revive your dead hard bricked Moto X. You can use Google to buy JTAG and try it yourself but we don’t recommend it at all, at it requires the skills of a knowledgeable person in Electronics.

Let’s see now how to unbrick or restore or fix a bricked Moto X.

How to Restore T-Mobile Moto X to Unbrick and Fix it

Warranty may be void of your device if you follow the procedures given on this page.

You only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

Before you begin with the instructions below, make sure your android device is adequately charged — at least 50% battery of the device, and your desktop PC or laptop is connected to a power source or has enough battery backup to go through the whole process below.

To make sure your device is eligible with this, you must first confirm its model no. in ‘About device’ option under Settings. Another way to confirm model no. is by looking for it on the packaging box of your device. It must be XT1053!

Do not use the procedures discussed here on any other Moto X (including the Moto X variant at Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, US Cellular and other International variants) or any other device of Motorola or any other company. You have been warned!

Back up important data and stuff before you start playing around here as there are chances you might lose your apps and app-data (app settings, game progress, etc.), and in rare case, files on the internal memory, too.

For help on Backup and Restore, check out our exclusive page on that linked right below.

You must have proper and working driver installed on your windows computer to be able to successfully flash stock firmware on your Motorola Moto X. In case you’re not sure, follow the link below for a definitive guide for installing driver for your Moto X on your computer.

Download the RSD Lite zip file and firmware file given below. Transfer both RSD Lite and firmware file to a separate folder on your computer just to keep things tidy.

Important Note: Backup important files (photos, videos, music, etc.) stored on internal SD card of your device to your PC, as flashing a stock firmware might format your phone’s internal SD card.

Extract/Unzip on your computer (using 7-zip free software, preferably) to get the following files:

[VERY IMPORTANT!] Look for the following line in the file, then select and delete it. Once deleted, save the file by pressing “Ctrl+S” on your PC.

Now boot your Moto X into bootloader mode:

Power off your device and wait for 5-10 seconds until the device is fully switched off.

Press and hold Volume Down + Power button together for a few seconds and then release them to get into bootloader mode

└ If your phone doesn’t appear on RSD Lite screen or if its status isn’t shown as “Connected”, then it means you don’t have proper Moto X drivers installed on your PC. Get them here → Moto X Drivers

When the flashing process is finished, your phone will automatically reboot.

NOTE: RSD Lite may get stuck with “Rebooting” under the Result column but that’s okay, if your Moto X has successfully rebooted then it is safe to disconnect the USB cable.

Your suggestions and queries, if any, are most welcomed!

How To Save And Backup Your Desktop Icon Layout On Windows.

If you are someone who has a million icons on your desktop in a specific order that you don’t ever want to lose, this guide will show you how to backup and save your desktop icon layout so it can quickly and easily be restored, should Windows ever decide to ruin your day.

How to Get a Mac-Like Dock For Your Icons on Windows 10.

The Windows 10 Fall Creators update came with quite a few cool new features and options. Simple things like VPN access and Photos App were all made easier to use with more options. Unfortunately, one feature that is still missing from all Windows versions is the ability to save and backup your Desktop icon layout. Although Windows doesn’t offer the option internally, there are several third-party options you can use to get the job done. Below, listed in no particular order are 3 of the best options you can use on any version of Windows.

How to Save Your Desktop Icon Configuration on Windows Using ReIcon.

First on the list is a small portable program called ReIcon. ReIcon is a simple program that allows you to create a backup of your desktop icon layout, it’s super handy if you are constantly changing desktop resolutions or jumping in and out of games that sometimes mess up your icon configuration. It allows you to:

Save your favorite icon layout for each resolution.

Save multiple different layouts.

Unicode support.

Align icons to Grid.

Download ReIcon.

Once you have downloaded and installed ReIcon, using it is really easy, as there are basically only 3 main options. Save, Restore and Delete. Once you have your icon layout configured, choose Save to save your layout. Then use Restore to restore your layout at a later time. If you would like a more detailed how to, check out the ReIcon main website.

How to Save Your Desktop Icon Configuration on Windows Using DesktopOK.

The next tool you can use to save your desktop icon configuration is called DesktopOK, it is very similar to ReIcon, although the website is reminiscent of the Internet’s earliest days. Once you download DesktopOK, using it is relatively easy, as it also has 3 main options, Save, Restore, and Delete. Apart from these features, DesktopOK has one unique feature that allows you to set autosave times which will force DesktopOK to save your layout at specific times, every 15 minutes, hourly, daily, or on shutdown.

Download DesktopOK.

How to Save Your Desktop Icon Configuration on Windows Using IconRestorer.

The final desktop layout saving tool is called IconRestorer and it too has a very basic, easy to use interface. As with both DesktopOK and ReIcon, IconRestorer allows you to backup and restore your desktop icon layouts quickly and easily. Although it doesn’t specifically state that it works on Windows 10, it works well without any issues. The only downside is that it hasn’t been updated in a considerable amount of time, so if you do come across any bugs, it’s best to switch to one of the other options. It will come in handy if you are running older versions of Windows.

Download IconRestorer.

Of all three of the programs I personally find ReIcon the best, the interface is clean, modern and easy to use. It also has the ability to be added to the context menu, which is something I find very useful. If you are using an older version of Windows, IconRestorer is a great option as it is also easy to use and has great compatibility for Windows XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, and Windows 7.
