Suggested April 2024 Homepod Mini Vs Amazon Echo: Which Should You Buy?

Apple introduced a tinier version of its popular HomePod called HomePod mini. This smart speaker is not only smaller in size, but also in price as compared to its parent. Both of these features put the HomePod mini more in the running as a direct competitor to the Amazon Echo.

Whether for yourself or a gift for a loved one, you might be trying to decide between the two (or three including the Amazon Echo Dot). To help, we have a comparison of HomePod mini versus Amazon Echo. Hopefully this will help you pick the best smart speaker for your home or someone else’s.

Comparing HomePod mini to Amazon Echo and Echo Dot

Size, weight, and colors

Since the first most obvious thing you may look at for these speakers is size, that’s where we’ll start our comparison. This can be an especially important aspect if you have limited space for the speaker.

HomePod mini: 3.3 inches tall, 3.9 inches wide, and 0.76 pounds. Two available colors: white and space gray.

HomePod mini Space Gray and White

Amazon Echo (4th generation) : 5.7 inches tall, 5.7 inches wide, and 2.14 pounds. Four available colors: charcoal, glacier white, twilight blue, and Limited Edition (PRODUCT)RED.

Amazon Echo Dot (4th generation): 3.5 inches tall, 3.9 inches wide, and 0.75 pounds. Three available colors: charcoal, glacier white, and twilight blue.

Amazon Echo Dot 4th generation

As you can see, the closest in size to the HomePod mini is the Amazon Echo Dot. The dimensions are almost identical, as is the weight, but all three sport the spherical shape.

Currently, you can buy each smart speaker outright or take a look at the helpful installment payment plans from Apple and Amazon.

It’s no surprise that Apple’s HomePod mini is priced higher than both Amazon Echo speakers. So if you’re on a tight budget, price should be a consideration.

The HomePod mini gives you 360-degree sound which pushes sound from the bottom. With a full-range driver, computational audio for real-time tuning, and great bass extension, you should be happy with the sound quality on HomePod mini.

The Amazon Echo offers Dolby audio and has a 3.0-inch woofer with dual front-firing 0.8-inch tweeters. The Amazon Echo Dot offers a 1.6-inch front-firing speaker. If it’s sound your concerned about between these two, the Amazon Echo is going to provide better output than the Echo Dot.

If it comes down to a Siri versus Alexa debate, you must not just consider the assistant but which ecosystem you’re most invested in, now and down the road.

Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa each have their wisdom and talents. But if you’ve used them both, you’ve probably noticed that Siri is not quite as useful as Alexa, as a whole. That’s not to say that Siri doesn’t get the job done, but Alexa seems to have a further reach.

If you own other Apple devices, already use Siri, and are even in the midst of creating a smart home, then the HomePod mini would likely be your best bet. But if you’re just beginning your journey, aren’t partial to either side, and want a digital assistant that can give you what you need without many limitations, Amazon Echo or Echo Dot is a great way to start.

These are speakers, right? Of course if you’re looking into a smart speaker, you want the “smart” but you also want the “speaker” – which means music.

HomePod mini: After only allowing Apple Music to be a HomePod’s default music app for some time, Apple has finally allowed other services in. You can set services like Pandora (and soon, Spotify) to be the go-to music source on your HomePod mini.

Keep in mind that even though you can only select from a few music services as your default on HomePod mini (currently), you can use AirPlay and transfer from one of your other devices to HomePod. It’s not as convenient, but still an option.

Amazon Echo and Echo Dot: Amazon leaves the door open on their smart speakers for you to listen to whichever service you want by default. This means you can pick from options like Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify, SiriusXM, and yes, even Apple Music. (This is not an exhaustive list either.)

If you don’t want to feel constrained by your music service preferences, one of Amazon’s speakers is a better choice. But again, when it comes to HomePod mini, there’s always AirPlay!

Wrapping it up

When it comes to HomePod mini versus Amazon Echo, they can both control your smart home, manage timers and alarms, remind you of to-dos, and give you the weather, news headlines, and local showtimes. Each speaker can play your music and play it well, plus give you your own personal digital assistant.

Each smart speaker is as useful as you make it.

If you aren’t already invested in Apple and Siri, and aren’t sure if you want to be, then one of Amazon’s speakers is your best bet. If you use Siri regularly on other devices and want amazing sound for your tunes, then you’ll likely be happier with the HomePod mini.

So? Which will you pick and why? Let us know!

Apple Watch Vs Moto 360 (2024): Which One Should You Buy?

Now that Android Wear is officially compatible with iOS devices there’s a lot more smartwatch love to go around, at least for Apple fans. Android users have had a taste of the first generation, but Motorola’s new Moto 360 is one of the many new options available for both sides for the fence. The question is, should you give Motorola your money?

If you’re not familiar with the first generation or Android Wear in general, you can check out our Moto 360 review here. This year Motorola has updated the internals to closely match the other smartwatch offerings on the market, but does it pack enough to win over the hearts of iPhone users? Like Apple, Motorola has two different sizes available for this year’s Moto 360. There’s a 42mm version which is the same as Apple’s largest offering and a slightly bigger 46mm version for those who prefer chunkier watches.

Each model packs a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, 4GB of storage, and 512MB of RAM. On the 42mm version there’s a 1.37-inch display with a 360×325 resolution, while the 46mm features a 1.56-inch display coming in at 360×330. In comparison, the 42mm Apple Watch’s 1.5-inch OLED display has a slightly higher pixel density with its 312×390 resolution.

Both devices are water-resistant as well, which is definitely a must-have on any electronic device worn on your wrist. Activity tracking is available with heart rate sensors on each device and it’s safe to say you’ll get about a day’s worth of use on a full charge, though Motorola claims the Moto 360 will last up to 1.5 to 2 days depending on which size option you choose. Either way, expect to charge any of these watches at night.

Check out our Moto 360 (2024) vs Apple Watch video below:

Comparing the sizes, you’ll notice that the 46mm Moto 360 isn’t too much larger than the 42mm Apple Watch, but the difference is really present when worn on your wrist. I prefer the 42mm look of the Moto 360, but anything smaller than that would just look funny on my arm.

When it comes to customization, the Moto 360 definitely wins. First off, it accepts any 22mm watch band with the new lugs that were added this time around, but with Apple you’ll need to stick to proprietary bands which can run you a bit of cash if you go with the official offerings. You can even take it a step further and completely customize the colors and variation of the Moto 360 using Moto Maker.

For software customization, Apple may have the lead here. Both offer customized watch faces, but there’s a lot more to do (almost too much) with Apple’s watchOS interface than you’ll find on Android Wear. Android Wear’s simplicity may be seen as a positive aspect though depending on who you ask. You can also take phone calls and use Siri on the Apple Watch, while the Moto 360 will only respond to voice search and Google Now.

With the Moto 360 your primary method of input is going to be the touch screen. Navigating through menus, apps, and more will all happen with a swipe of the finger, but you can use motion gestures with your wrist to flip through various notifications. On the Apple Watch, most navigation is done with the touch screen, but there’s also a Digital Crown on the side that will allow for scrolling and zoom in certain situations and a couple of buttons to perform various tasks, Unfortunately, the relocated button on the new Moto 360 will simply put the device to sleep when pressed, but again the entire story here is simplicity.

Which one do you prefer? Did Google’s latest Android Wear compatibility announcement change your mind about buying or keeping an Apple Watch? Obviously if you’re on Android, Apple Watch isn’t an option, but let us know what you think.

Chromecast with Google TV Vs Fire TV Stick 4K Design and Looks

The new Chromecast with Google TV comes in compact form factor just like previous models. Its dimensions are 6.4 x 2.4 x 0.5 inches and it comes in cool new Snow, Sunrise and Sky colours. There is still an HDMI cable hanging and a USB-C port for charge.

The Fire TV Stick, on the other hand, comes in much more compact size, it looks like a USB drive. Dimensions of Fire TV Stick are  3.9 x 1.2 x 0.6 inches and it comes in Black color only. So Amazon’s TV stick is smaller but thick and thus it may block the other ports on your TV. Also, it has a Micro USB port for power.

The official website doesn’t mention the exact specs of the new Chromecast. However, some users suggest that it is powered by a 1.9GHz quad-core Amlogic processor, paired with 2GB RAM and 8GB storage.

The Fire TV Stick 4K is powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core CPU. There is no mention of RAM on the official website but some reports suggest that it has 1.5GB of RAM. The TV stick has 8GB of internal storage.

Google TV is a new interface that runs on Android TV that offers curated content from your streaming services like Netflix. It has a new watchlist feature that lets you list the shows and movies that you plan to watch later. Moreover, Google UI also has a Live TV Tab where you can find all the live channels that are available via YouTube TV subscription.

Talking about Fire TV stick, it also comes with a simple UI as well. The Fire TV stick also has a similar layout with fields like Home, Movies, TV Shows, Apps and settings.

The home page on the Fire TV stick is a mix of content from OTT platforms and Prime Videos and you also have access to your most commonly used apps on the home screen.

App Support

The Chromecast with Google TV supports more than 6,500 Android TV apps that are available in the Play Store. Of course the list includes the usual biggies of OTT like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, etc.

While the Fire TV Stick offers access to its own app store and also offers popular OTT apps as well. However, for some users it can be useful to note that it doesn’t have HBO Max.

Both the Chromecast with Google TV and Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K can stream up to 4K UHD content at up to 60 fps. These also support Dolby Vision, HDR 10 and HDR10+ formats, for better video quality and rich colors.

In terms of audio formats, they both support similar audio codecs including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Atmos.

Other Features

Meanwhile, you can also mirror content from the Fire TV Stick 4K to your TV. The Fire TV stick works with Amazon’s own ecosystem. So you can use Alexa to control lights and the Echo smart speakers.

Remote Control

A remote control is really a big addition to the new Chromecast. Google’s new remote features YouTube & Netflix buttons, volume controls, and a dedicated Assistant button that will help you find something to watch, answer questions and also control smart devices.

On the other hand, the Fire TV Stick 4K has a remote control that doesn’t have any OTT shortcut button. However, it has smart assistant button to bring up Alexa, volume rockers, mute button, and also works as a universal remote control for your TV and soundbar.

Chromecast with Google TV Vs Fire TV Stick Price

The new Chromecast with Google TV is priced at $49.99 (Rs. 3,675 approx.) and will be available in the US and some other markets starting from October 15. Google will soon bring it to India as well.

On the other hand, Amazon’s latest Fire TV Stick 4K is priced at Rs. 5,999. It is available in India via

Why You Should Buy A Usb

The result is a tidy, flexible workstation. However, not all USB-C monitors are the same. Some hardly qualify as a USB hub while others can replace a high-end USB-C dock. Here’s what to know before you buy, though if you don’t want to spend time researching all the relevant specs, our roundup of the best USB-C monitors can point you to the best options available with minimum fuss.

Our guides to the best PC monitors, best 4K monitors, and best gaming monitors can help you find the perfect fit for your needs.

Why should you buy a USB-C hub monitor?

A USB-C hub monitor will remove numerous cords from your desk. Instead of connecting peripherals to your PC, you can connect them to the monitor, which then connects to your PC over USB-C.

Laptops that have USB-C benefit the most. The USB-C hub monitor can act as a video cable and power cable in one. You can leave the laptop’s power adapter in your backpack or luggage because you won’t need it at your desk.

Most people who own a USB-C compatible laptop will need a USB-C hub or dock, anyway. Bundling it with the monitor means you won’t have to find space for a separate hub or dock on your desk.

The best full-featured usb-c hub

Best Prices Today:

The best USB-C hub monitors will include Ethernet, multiple USB-A ports, and support daisy-chain displays over DisplayPort. Dell’s P2723QE monitor is one example of a USB-C monitor that can handle numerous peripherals at once.

Want the ultimate clean setup? Buy a monitor arm with a laptop stand and use wire clips to router wires behind the monitor arm. This can remove nearly all wires from sight. You’ll only see the USB-C cord that connects the laptop to the monitor.

USB-C hub is not a technical term, so be wary of imposters

The term “hub” is often used to describe devices that extend USB connectivity. This isn’t a technical term and has nothing to do with any specific standard. The decision to slap the term “hub” on any USB-C device, including a monitor, is at the whims of the maker’s marketing department.

I recommend you look for a USB-C hub monitor with at least four additional USB ports and a mix of USB-A and USB-C. I also recommend that you snag a monitor with an Ethernet port if your laptop lacks Ethernet built-in.

DisplayPort Alternate Mode: Make sure your laptop has it!

No version of USB includes a video standard as part of the base specification. Instead, USB-C devices that handle video use an optional addition called DisplayPort Alternate Mode. USB-C monitors will list the version of DisplayPort supported by the USB-C port in the monitor’s specifications.

You don’t need to worry about the version of DisplayPort used by the monitor. A monitor that supports video over USB-C will use a DisplayPort version that is adequate to drive the monitor at its native resolution and refresh rate.

USB Forum

It’s important to check that a USB-C port with DisplayPort Alternate Mode is available on the PC you will connect to the monitor. This feature is not mandatory, and not all PCs that have a USB-C port support it.

The version of DisplayPort supported by your PC’s USB-C port usually isn’t important. USB-C devices with DisplayPort Alternate Mode will support at least DisplayPort 1.2, which can output 4K at 60Hz.

DisplayPort version will matter if you connect a high refresh display. You need USB-C with support for DisplayPort 1.4 to handle a high refresh 4K at 144Hz, for example. But very few USB-C monitors have a refresh rate above 60Hz, so this is rarely a issue.

Power delivery: Check the wattage before you buy

Most USB-C devices support some USB Power Delivery, which is required to supply power over USB. However, the USB Power Delivery standard is extremely broad. The wattage available can vary from a few watts to 100W or more. You’ll need to check the USB-C monitor you want can provide enough power for any devices – in most cases, a laptop – it will power.

This killer USB-C hub monitor offers 90 watts of power delivery

Best Prices Today:

There’s an easy way to do this. View the monitor’s specifications to find out how much power it can send over USB-C. Compare that to the rated wattage of your laptop’s power adapter. The monitor should support USB Power Delivery at least equal to wattage supplied by the laptop power adapter.

Power Delivery available from a monitor is currently limited to 100 watts at most. That means some high-performance gaming and workstation laptops can’t rely exclusively on USB-C for power even if the laptop has a USB-C port with Power Delivery.

What about Thunderbolt hub monitors?

USB-C and Thunderbolt are similar, but there are some perks to Thunderbolt.

Thunderbolt has a higher minimum data rate than USB. Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 must support a data rate of 40Gbps, while USB 3.1 supports a minimum data rate of 10Gbps, and USB4 supports a minimum of 20Gbps. USB can achieve the same 40Gbps data rate as Thunderbolt, but it’s optional, so many devices (including USB-C hub monitors) do not offer it. Thunderbolt’s higher data rate could be important if you want to connect multiple high-speed storage devices or use external graphics.

A Ben Q USB-C hub monitor.

Ben Q

DisplayPort is default to the Thunderbolt standard, so you don’t need to check if it’s supported on both the monitor and the device you want to connect to it. Thunderbolt 3 supports DisplayPort 1.2 while Thunderbolt 4 supports DisplayPort 2.0.

Power Delivery remains variable, so you still need to check the power delivered by a Thunderbolt hub monitor is enough for the device you want to connect.

For now, BenQ’s newest PD-Series workstation monitors are the only monitors I would recommend as a Thunderbolt hub monitor. LG offers several Thunderbolt monitors, but they lack the breadth of ports needed to significantly expand the connectivity of your PC.

What comes next: More power…sometimes.

USB4 is the latest USB standard. It will increase the minimum data rate for USB to 20Gbps and support a maximum of 40Gbps. I’d expect most devices will offer the minimum rather than the maximum. Still, it’s a nice upgrade over prior versions of USB. USB4 will be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and newer as well as Thunderbolt 3.

The latest version of USB Power Delivery supports up to 240 watts of power, enough to handle all but the quickest laptops. That’s a big deal. It will allow easy, single-cable connections with laptops currently too powerful to embrace it.

USB Forum

Now the bad news: Compatible devices are rare. Only a few USB-C hubs or docks are available and none of the USB-C monitors shown at CES 2023 announced support for USB4 or the 240-watt Power Delivery standard.

USB4 makes inclusion of Power Delivery standard and has the option to support the latest up to 240 watts of power, but it doesn’t increase the required minimum wattage. You’ll still need to keep a close eye on exactly how much power a USB-C monitor provides.

Why You Should Buy The 7600X For Gaming

Why you should buy the 7600X for gaming

Here we explain why the budget 7600X is one of the best CPUs for gaming. Especially if you’re on a budget.

AMD released its Ryzen 7000 series CPUs to the market on September 27th, 2023, and since it has taken the world by storm. We were eagerly waiting in anticipation for Zen 4 to release for what seemed like forever. And now that it has been released, we want to focus on one particular aspect of the 7600X, its blistering single-core performance. Here’s why you should buy the 7600X for gaming.

Now read: Ryzen 5 7600X review

LIVE NOW: Ryzen 7000 series CPUs are on sale worldwide!

The Ryzen 7 7600X performs almost as well as the bigger 7000 series CPUs on the single-core side of things, which is ideal for gaming. To understand why this is, let’s take a brief look at the specifications of the 7600X so we can better understand how and why it performs as well as it does.

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X specifications

Before we jump into the performance of the Ryzen 5 7600X, it’s vital to outline what sort of specifications we’re working with.

The specifications of the Ryzen 5 7600X are as follows.

Cores: 6

Base clock speed: 4.7GHz

Boost clock speed: 5.3GHz

L2 Cache: 6MB

L3 Cache: 32MB

TDP: 105W

Socket: AM5

iGPU: RDNA 2 based Radeon Graphics

As you can see, even for a CPU considered to be in the “low end” of the Zen 4 generation, it still has a pretty impressive list of specifications. Some of which aren’t accurate, more on that later.

Ryzen 5 7600X single-core performance

The reason we think that the Ryzen 5 7600X is such a good choice for the hardcore gamers of the world, is because the Ryzen 5 7600X performs around about the same as the Ryzen 9 7900X.

Allow us to elaborate, we’re only talking about single-core performance here, obviously, the 7900X wipes the floor with the 7600X. But how is it that both CPUs perform the same as each other when they’re priced so differently?

As you can see the Ryzen 5 7600X performs practically the same in games where single-core performance matters. The only reason we see an increase at all is that the 7900X is clocked slightly higher on the boost frequencies than the 7600X.

In CGeekbench, the Ryzen 5 7600X scored 2,183, and the Ryzen 9 7900X, a CPU that costs $250 more than the 7600X, scored just 2,259 points.

The similarities don’t just end there, as you can see. In Cinebench R23 the 7600X scored 1,954 points, whereas the 7900X managed 2,022 points. It’s pretty much too close to call in both scenarios. Definitely not the performance uplift you would get for $250 extra dollars.

Why is the performance so similar?

Well, the real answer is that it isn’t really. The single-core benchmarks are close because it’s the same core and core architecture. But the 7900X undoubtedly wins on multicore performance as it has a whopping six extra cores to work with.

Both CPUs contain the same Zen 4 CPU core, running at very similar base and boost frequencies. This allows the CPUs to perform similarly in games when multiple cores aren’t taken into account, because games rarely use more than four CPU cores at a time, which the 7600X has.

If you’re in the market for a Ryzen 7000 series CPU, you’re probably in the market for an Exceptional CPU cooler. Here’s our recommendation.

Asus ROG RYUJIN II 360 CPU Cooler

CPU Block Dimensions

78.15 x 87.5 x 81 mm

Socket Support

Intel: LGA 1150, 1151, 1152, 1155, 1156, 1200, 1366, 2011, 2011-3, 2066 AMD: AM4, TR4*

3x Noctua NF-F12 InductrialPPC 2000 PWM Fans

3.5″ Full Color LCD Screen

The Ryujin ii is an amazing 360mm CPU cooler that manages to keep the 7000 series temperatures below the throttling threshold. This was at 100% CPU load over a full five minutes, seriously impressive considering the high TDP of the 7000 series.

Ryzen 5 7600X FAQs

Here are some of the commonly asked questions around the Ryzen 5 7600X

Should I buy a Ryzen 5 7600X for gaming?

Yes, the Ryzen 5 7600X’s single-core performance is resounding, it even stacks up against the 7900X. As we know, single-core performance is key when we’re speaking in terms of gaming performance. If you need something with a few more cores to do some heavy lifting, the Ryzen 7 7700X isn’t a bad way to go.

Why is the single-core performance of the 7600X similar to the 7900X?

Both CPUs contain the same Zen 4 CPU core, running at very similar base and boost frequencies. This allows the CPUs to perform similarly in games when multiple cores aren’t taken into account, because games rarely use more than four CPU cores at a time, which the 7600X has.

Final word

So if you’re just a gamer, who doesn’t stream or perform workstation heavy tasks, then the 7600X is the CPU for you. If you want a solid multi-core performance, this might not be the way to go thanks to it’s lesser number of CPU cores.

You save $250, and that’s cash you can splash on a CPU cooler to help keep this little beast cool. All of the Ryzen 7000 series CPUs run very hotly. There is a cooler for that, as we listed above.

9 Reasons Why You Should Buy Apple Watch!

Many might call Apple Watch an expensive accessory. And I won’t totally deny that, but add that it’s absolutely worth it. How? And why exactly should you buy an Apple Watch? Well, let me serve you with not just one but nine reasons to buy an Apple Watch.

1. It keeps with time

Well, that’s a given, right? Apple Watch helps you keep a watch over current time. And thanks to features like Always-On display (Series 5 and later) or Raise to Wake, you can observe the time and other complications without wasting time.

What’s great is that you get a variety of Apple Watch faces, everything from minimal, utilitarian infographics to portrait photos. Moreover, you can add complications that tell time, weather, or even the moon’s phases, basically customize these faces as per your taste and requirement.

And if that’s not incentive enough, you can also instruct the faces to automatically change based on time or location. So, you can have a workout-centric face for the gym, a focus-centric for the office, and a chill-toned-down version for home/vacation.

Alarm, reminders, timers, and more

Apple Watch has almost every feature you’ll require from a time-piece. It can double as a stopwatch, kitchen or workout timer, birthday, anniversary, meeting reminder, etc. You also get a handwash timer to ensure you washed your hands for the appropriate time.

So, whether it’s 6 am or 9 pm, the Apple Watch is always helpful, from waking you up to reminding you to go to sleep.

2. It keeps you connected

Unless going through a digital, social, or communicative detox, we all like to stay updated. Yes, the frequency might differ from person to person, but we’ve gotten into checking our phones regularly.

And Apple Watch (especially the cellular version) gives you all the benefits of staying connected without the compulsion of lugging your phone all the time. I am not saying that you can lock your phone in a cupboard and go holidaying.

You can lock it in a gym or club’s locker and continue with your activities without missing anything urgent. And it’s not all just work. You can use Apple Watch to track your activities, listen to music, podcasts, or audiobooks, get directions and make or receive calls or texts.

And the connection isn’t limited to your circle of devices. Between Family Setup and Activity Sharing, you can stay connected with your friends and family (more on this later).

3. It keeps up with your health

Must know Apple Watch health features

Here, I demand your permission to look at these features from a bird’s eye view. Because if I dig deep, this would be an even longer (read: never-ending) article. You can check out Apple’s healthcare page or the detailed guide linked to the features to know more.

Activity tracking and workout

Challenges and incentives encourage us to achieve our goals and test our limits. And Apple employs these tactics to push us towards our health goal with three Activity rings – Move, Excercise, and Stand.

Apple routinely introduces new challenges, limited edition achievement stickers to keep things interesting. And if you like competing with friends/family, the Activity Sharing feature lets you see others’ progress and show off yours.

The best part is that you don’t have to be a fitness fanatic to make the most of the Apple Watch. You do you boo, whether a walk, yoga, pilates, dance, swimming, core training, functional strength training, or tai chi, every small or big effort is accounted for and supported.

Fitness +

Introduced in late 2023, Apple Fitness+ is a dedicated health-centric service. It gives you access to a catalog of workouts, including strength, cycling, meditations, treadmill, etc.

These live and recorded sessions are conducted by experts and incorporate their unique training style, personality, and taste in music.

The service also boasts a special feature, Time To Walk. It boasts curated stories and music by interesting people such as Emmy Award winner Uzo Aduba, NBA player Daymond Green, and more to keep you company during your daily stroll.

Note: You can get these benefits from the native apps and watchOS. A host of health and fitness Apple Watch apps chip in with more features and fun.

4. It keeps up with your work

Apple Watch can be a great companion whether your work incorporates commute, work from home, desk job, or anything.

Stay in the loop

You’re not going to miss any important calls, messages, or notifications while the iPhone is kept in your pocket/bag or at a distance (another desk or room). You can:

Focus modes for the win

While the Apple Watch understands your need to stay connected, it can also undertake the task of keeping distractions at a minimum. Features like Focus and Notification Summary help you stay in the moment, whether working or holidaying.

Take notes

Source: Apple

I know the small screen of the Apple Watch isn’t note-taking friendly. But an idea doesn’t check whether you have iPhone/Mac or pencil and paper handy when it strikes. So, we make do with what we have on our hands.

And thanks to the native Voice Memos app and some amazing third-party note-taking apps, the task is not too difficult.

Note: If you’re a student or thinking of buying a watch for a student, here’s a glimpse of how the Apple Watch can help them.

Apple’s voice assistant is pretty handy on the Apple Watch. You can ask Siri to

Answer some important or funny questions

Start a timer

Send a message

Find you a route or nearby services and direct you towards the destination

Set a Focus mode

Announce calls or notifications on supportive ear/headphones

Your schedule for the day and more.

Open a certain app

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. The Apple Watch also supports Siri Shortcuts, so you can even ask Siri to clear all notifications, change the watch face as per time/location, send default replies, and more.

5. It keeps up with your fun

The Apple Watch knows that all work and no fun can make its owner a dull one. So, it incorporates features that help you let your hair down.

Although not from its speakers, Apple Watch supports music listening via Bluetooth devices (earbuds, speakers, etc.). Moreover, you’re not limited to Apple Music; there are a host of third-party music apps that incorporates a companion Apple Watch app.

And not only music, but you can also play audiobooks, podcasts, and radio. Remarkably, the Apple Watch also offers Shazam support, i.e., you can also recognize the song playing in the background; just ask Siri which song is this.

Don’t rub your eyes; you’re not reading an anomaly. In fact, you can play a host of interesting and fun games on the Apple Watch. Agreed, they are not Apple Arcade standards; nonetheless, they can relax, distract, and pass your time.

Apps galore

Apple Watch has an exhaustive array of apps in its App Store. You’ll find an app for almost anything you need, emails, weather, home automation, calculators, podcasts, expense managers, golf, etc.

Overall, you won’t get bored or left stranded if you have the Apple Watch and the right apps by your side.

6. It keeps up with your family and friends

It’s insane how much Apple Watch can do to keep you connected with your family and friends, especially now that we have Family Setup and Health Sharing.

Family Setup

Pair more than one Apple Watch with your iPhone, and set up a watch for kids or older people. And while the Apple Watch will support all features, the parent/child will have control over certain features like:

Content and App Store restrictions

Apple Cash Family – Load money for Apple Pay

Emergency SOS Notification

Current location via Find My

Manage to call permission and set Schooltime schedule (only for kids)

View health-related information

Health Sharing

We can’t be everywhere and monitor every little detail of our parents, partners, or kids’ life. However, thanks to Apple Watch, you can at least keep an eye out on their health stats. When enabled, you can view the health data of a fellow Apple Watch user.

Depending upon the permission given while setting up, you can get an overview of cardiac health (heart rate), sleep metrics, exercise minutes, etc. You can even view health trends they have established or broken recently.

Moreover, the setting alerts you if there’s an emergency, like when a fall is detected, or a metric is out of order.

7. It keeps up with the Apple ecosystem

Along with family/friends, Apple Watch is also a master at keeping you connected with your Apple devices. For instance, you can unlock your iPhone and Mac from your Apple Watch. Neat, right?

You can also ping the paired iPhone via Apple Watch to find its location and vice-a-versa. Plus, thanks to Handoff, you can switch Apple Watch tasks like typing messages, passwords, app names, etc., to iPhone.

Interestingly, the Apple Watch also boasts AirPlay compatibility. And albeit limited in its functionality because you can’t AirPlay from the watch, you can surely use it as an AirPlay remote for content streaming from the iPhone.

There’s more; Apple Watch can double as Apple TV remote, HomeKit remote, and iPhone Camera trigger; you can connect AirPods and switch between devices with ease. Overall, I could say that Apple Watch seamlessly closes the loop of Apple’s ecosystem.

8. It keeps up with your privacy

Apple keeps privacy at the core of every device, feature, and service it releases, and the Apple Watch is no different.

Whether it is App privacy labels, lock screen passwords, notification privacy, or clarity on data being shared via Activity Sharing or Health Sharing, everything is built with keeping the user’s privacy as a priority.

9. It keeps up with your lifestyle

First and foremost, it carries Apple’s signature sleek and minimal design philosophy. To put it simply, it looks rich and panache. Furthermore, you get endless options for Apple Watch accessories, from bands and cases to charging stands.

So, you can customize the looks to suit your style statement. Another interesting Apple Watch feature includes support for Apple Pay, hotel/home keys, transit cards, Covid-19 vaccination cards, etc., that’ll make your day-to-day tasks quicker.

Then there are accessibility features like VoiceOver, zoom, braille display, gestures/Assistive Touch, Accessibility Shortcuts, etc., to ensure that everyone can use the Apple Watch seamlessly.

Things to consider before buying an Apple Watch

Do you have an iPhone?

While Apple Watch works fine independently, it still needs to be paired with an iPhone to function. And some features can only be managed and accessed through an iPhone. So, if you don’t have an iPhone, you can’t have an Apple Watch.

Would it affect your digital addiction?

It’s funny that the device we depend upon for digital minimalism is a digital device itself. Although I must say, Apple Watch has helped me and many others like me to minimize their daily device usage.

Instead of unlocking the iPhone and falling down the deep pit of scrolling, I now quickly and swiftly see my watch for updates, reply to that need attention, and move on with my workflow.

Is it worth the expense?

Yes, especially if you compare it with other smartwatches in the market. However, the price is somewhat worth it when considering seamless compatibility, accurate data metrics, and privacy-intensive features.
