Suggested April 2024 7 Reasons Mobile Apps Are The New Frontier Of Marketing

It is easy to see why.

People constantly check their phones; in fact, researchers found adults spend a third of their day on their mobile devices, and 90% of this time is spent on apps.

Mobile is the Present and the Future

Globally, more than two billion people use smartphones. That number is expected to grow up to 2.5 billion by 2023.

Apps are the lifeline of smartphones. It’s no wonder, then, that businesses are embracing the mobile space to keep themselves relevant in a vastly changing technoscape.

Apps Allow for Business On-the-Go

We are far more likely to have our phones at hand than a laptop (no matter how light it is). A flagship smartphone can accomplish most tasks required for a business-owner—in fact, laptops are starting to look almost redundant for most of our business-related needs.

While a website is very important, along with the requisite SEO, it isn’t as light, nimble and fast-moving as apps, which are specifically designed for devices always in motion.

Apps Increase Engagement

Apps present you with a small, tightly-integrated world. If it is well-made, it’s easy to get sucked into an app and lose sense of one’s surroundings. Mobile game makers have mastered this art. The recent crazy success of Pokemon Go conclusively establishes the power of a good app. They hooked people’s imagination and users are finding it difficult to wean themselves off it.

But even without big bucks and a large legion of established fans, apps can and do take off. All major retailers these days have mobile apps–and local businesses are increasingly waking up to their potential. A local, city or community-based app can expand your business’ reach and engagement.

The question for small business owners used to be: Do you have a website?

Now the question is: Do you have an app?

Apps are Purposeful

That is not to say that websites don’t have a purpose.

Apps Encourage Repeat Visits

Simply because of the sheer simplicity and convenience, apps attract repeat users. Companies also are able to send notifications to users’ phones, prompting them to revisit. It’s like having a direct line right into your customer’s pocket. I love podcasts and love getting notifications when a new episode is available for download!

Small Businesses can Benefit

So here is one more compelling reason for you to consider an app. Most people search for businesses locally—and they do this through their phones. Businesses are therefore ramping up their mobile game. Your mobile-readiness is also a ranking factor with Google.

Local search engine optimization is also becoming more and more valuable. Mobile apps can be a great marketing tool for a local food order joint, for instance. Once you get people to sign up (via their Google or Facebook logins), you can send them periodic notifications and/or coupon codes. These are non-intrusive, and if pertinent to the user, likely to bring you more business.

App Notifications are Timely and Immediate

Ever noticed how Domino’s weekend pizza deals that never fail to land in our phones on Friday?

You may forget to check their website for deals and updates, and even newsletters often fall into our spam folders now. Apps are a new way to directly reach your customer base–in a way that’s helpful to them and your business, too.

Apps can be programmed to understand our preferences, our behavior, our last shopping spree — and send us nudges to keep us on track. It’s very clever marketing, and provides a service for the users, too.

Should all Small Businesses Get Mobile Apps?

Every business is different and thus require different marketing strategies. Certain industries and kinds of businesses are naturally more suited to the mobile platform.

The retail and food industries, for example, have a lot to gain. Payment apps, grocery delivery apps, coupon and weekend deal apps, beauty services, florists, and other similar businesses can benefit heavily. Online shopping is so pleasurable, it’s almost an addiction. Even if you don’t develop your own app, if you own or market for a small business in these areas, consider researching other “Local Deal” apps you can get listed on.

Just like developing a website, you can find many agencies that offer app development, so building an app is possible for any business. Staying on the cutting edge of marketing is how businesses grow. Do yourself a favor and research some apps in your city or industry and see where your company might fit in.

Do you have an app strategy? 5 options for reaching and engaging your audience  through mobile applications

I’m currently updating my books on the latest developments and thinking through the options companies have for their mobile app strategy. This is where I’ve got to.

I’d be grateful for your opinions, particularly if you have experience of what works and what doesn’t as a specialist consultant on mobile apps or if you are using apps within your business.

The growth in popularity of mobile apps

For me, the growth in popularity of apps for the iPhone has been amazing with Apple announcing in January 2010 that 3 billion apps had been downloaded in the 18 months following the launch of the AppStore. Growth has been maintained through 2010:

The figures in the chart above from iPhoneDev are compiled a summary of the growth based on official figures from the Apple App Store and showed these fascinating characteristics of Apps from the App Store in June 2010:

Number of apps downloaded per month = 500M

The number iOS users = 100 Million

Average number of apps downloaded by an iOS user = 5 per month

Of which paid apps are 25% i.e. 1.25 apps

Average spend by an iOS user = 1.25*$1.25 = $1.5 per month

Total paid apps sales amount = $1.5*100M = $150M

Mobile app strategy options

I think think the main mobile app strategy decisions are:

For many companies, this won’t be a priority because they will have to put budget into higher priority areas such as improving the experience on site or in their social network presence. Owing to volume of users reached through these other platforms incremental improvements here are likely to give better returns. But the figures presented above show the potential benefits of apps to marketers in reaching audiences and potentially in selling apps, although the latter will be generally limited to publishers or specialist software developers. For these types of organisations, apps are likely to be a priority.

Q3. Free or paid apps? Retailers will generally offer free apps offering choice and convenience in return for loyalty. Brands offering entertainment will likely also go the free route to increase customer engagement. But for publishers or software houses, a freemium approach of free app showcasing the serivce and paid app for improved features or content is the standard approach.

Q4. Which category of application to target? As you would expect, accessing social networks and music via apps is popular, but for  most organisations, you can see from the chart below that Games and Entertainment are the main options.

Q5. How to best promote mobile apps? Your options for marketing apps are illustrated well by this chart of preference for finding out about apps for smartphones which shows that the most popular methods of app discovery are

1. Searching the app store

2. Recommendations from friends and family

3. Mention on device or network carrier page

4. Email promotion

5. Offline mention in TV and print.

Apps Of The Week: Rollercoaster Tycoon 4, Trials Frontier, Carousel, And More

If someone told me that I wouldn’t be able to use my iPhone and iPad for a whole week, I might fall apart. It’s not that I need to stay connected to friends and family (although I do care about their well-being). The real problem is that I am a little bit addicted to finding new apps and games to check out.

Because I love testing new apps and games so much, it makes it easier for you to decide what to pick up. If you are looking for a fun title to pass the time, or maybe need to organize all of your Dropobox pictures, we’ve got a list of apps and games you may like this weekend…

RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile

I have this friend who is a roller coaster enthusiast. He first got me involved with the RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise about a decade ago. Players get to run their own amusement park. I love the game, but honestly, I’d rather ride the rides than worry about whether there are enough bathrooms in the par. This fourth installment of the franchise lets you create and share the wildest rides in the wilderness. There are 20 pre-designed coasters, more than 50 attractions and restaurants, and the ability to unlock new materials to make your rides better than ever. This game is available for $2.99.

Fans of the motorcycle mayhem that Trials offers will be happy to know that this side-scrolling platformer will have you on the edge of your seat as you perform stunts like a pro. This mobile exclusive game puts you out on in the wild with 10 different environments and more than 70 new tracks. Rise in ranks to become the best racer on the physics-based stunt courses. Unlock nine different bikes in three tiers and upgrade your ride with better equipment. Compete against others through ghost racing. No need to be online to compete. This game is available for free.

I’m a big fan of this graphic designer favorite dashboard display, Morning. It makes my iPad look great when I’m sitting at my desk. If I actually had coworkers walking past my office, I just know they’d ask about it. This app was just updated this week to support iPhone and iPod devices. Now, you can get a great looking peak at the weather, your reminders, the day’s stock, your RSS feed, and even a customized countdown. The app has been completely redesigned for the iPhone so it makes use of the smaller landscape in the best possible way. This app is available for $3.99.

Carousel by Dropbox

For a while now, Dropbox has included a feature that allows you to automatically store your photos to the cloud service by enabling the Dropbox Camera Import settings. With it, you can sync pictures that you take automatically when your phone is connected to your computer. Apparently, the feature is so popular that the cloud storage service needed to make a separate app for that. This new app lets you store and manage images and videos using albums and events. It also automatically backs up your photos the moment you take them in full resolution, so even if your phone gets stolen right out of your hands, you can be sure that picture you took at the park will be safely stored in the cloud. This app is available for free.

Refresh

Remember when your mom found out what your girlfriend was like by doing a Google search on her? If you are even older, you may recall that the best way to find out someone’s history was to be or know a detective. Well, those days are over. Now, you can find out practically everything there is to know about a person before you even meet them. All you need is their name and the app will link you to their Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and more. Plus, the app includes features to let you follow with people you’ve met with notes to help jog your memory about who they are. This app is available for free.

What Are The Limitations Of Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing is a type of marketing that uses various online platforms and digital technologies to promote the products and services of a company or brand. It has completely changed the way businesses and brands approach marketing. Due to the increasing number of people using digital platforms, the scope of digital marketing has also become more prevalent. Some of the most common factors that people consider when it comes to using digital marketing include search engine optimization, content marketing, social media, e-commerce, and marketing automation.

What is Digital Marketing?

Online marketing and internet marketing allow you to monitor the performance of your campaign. It allows you to keep track of which channels are performing well and which aren’t. This is very beneficial since online marketing allows you to maximize your budget.

Through digital marketing, you can reach out to a wider audience and target your ideal customers. This method allows you to identify and reach out to individuals who are most likely to buy your products or services.

Limitations of Digital Marketing

Despite the various challenges that come with online marketing, it is still important to keep investing in new technology to ensure that your efforts are successful. The days of merely owning a website are over. Today, it is important that companies continuously update their digital marketing strategies.

Even though online marketing results can be measured, they do not always guarantee success. One of the biggest challenges that businesses face when it comes to digital marketing is finding the right content that will resonate with their target audience. There are so many options available that choosing the right strategy can be challenging.

Skills Requirement

In order to effectively carry out marketing campaigns, it is important that the company has the proper expertise and knowledge about the digital platform. With the evolution of technology, it is also important that the company continuously updates its offerings and tools.

High Competition

The goal of a digital marketing campaign is to stand out from the crowd and grab the attention of the target audience. A well-thought-out strategy will allow the brand to stand out from the competition and win the battle.

Time-consuming

Getting the most out of digital marketing can be very time-consuming and challenging. This is why it is important that the organization has the proper strategy and methods in place to ensure that the campaign is successful. This can be done through the use of tools such as Tweetdeck, Hubspot, and Ahrefs. Besides being able to handle the various tasks involved in digital marketing, these tools can also help boost the effectiveness of the campaign.

Dependability on Technology

Due to the nature of digital marketing, there are bound to be errors. One of these is when the links may not work or the landing pages may not load properly. This can lead to potential customers switching to another brand. To avoid this, it is important that the website be thoroughly tested. In addition to ensuring that the campaigns are working properly, it is also important that the content is proofread.

Feedback and Complaints Security and Privacy Issues

The security of a brand is very important for any organization. This is why it is important that digital marketers have the proper tools and resources to protect their websites. One of the most effective ways to do this is by using a good antivirus program. Besides this, it is also important that the legal considerations related to the acquisition of customer data are done in a way that is secure.

The increasing number of global customers and the potential for them to provide feedback and complaints will result in a higher competition and a bigger scope for businesses. This will also affect the brand’s image and reputation.

How Do You Overcome the Challenges of Online Marketing?

One of the most effective ways to avoid this issue is to adopt methods such as social media polling and FAQs. These will allow you to gather information about your customers’ needs and develop marketing campaigns that will resonate with them. As digital trends continue to evolve, new marketing techniques will also be introduced in the market.

Conclusion

The effectiveness of a digital marketing campaign is greatly enhanced by the availability of various digital platforms and gadgets. This allows it to reach a wider audience and increase sales. In addition, it allows the use of tailored materials that are geared toward specific customers.

It’s important to regularly assess the options available to you when it comes to digital marketing. Having the right tools and resources can help you improve the efficiency of your efforts and establish a stronger digital identity. One of the most important factors that you should consider is the availability of web hosting.

Why Solid State Batteries Are The Next Frontier For Ev Makers

Solid state batteries, or SSBs, have been the holy grail for EVs for the past several years. Sometimes whispered about in the way one might regard a legend or ghost story, the longer-range, faster-charging promise of SSBs has seemed to be just out of reach.

That status may be shifting. Several automotive manufacturers like BMW and Ford have invested in battery maker Solid Power, which was established in 2011 and claims its SSBs will be safer, offer higher energy and cost less than lithium-ion batteries. Ford’s F-150 Lightning’s chief engineer Linda Zhang says the company is not using SSBs right now but they’re “definitely something we’re looking at.”

With the wild popularity of the Lightning right now, the Blue Oval is doing everything it can to keep up with demand as is. However, implementing another new element into the vehicle can’t be a far behind plan.

So, how does a solid state battery work?

GMC’s new Hummer EV is a gigantic machine in frame alone, and the 24 stacked battery cells on the Ultium platform adds nearly 3,000 pounds to this heavyweight. The Hummer EVs power comes from a proprietary NCMA combination (nickel, cobalt, manganese, and aluminum) packed into a lithium-ion cell technology much like the battery in your smartphone.

Commonly used EV batteries are comprised of a cathode, anode, separator, and liquid electrolyte. While driving, positively charged lithium-ions inside the battery are attracted to the cathode and electrons zip through the high-voltage circuits. A solid-state battery, on the other hand, uses solid electrolyte in place of the liquid.

Why does that matter? Not only is the solid state battery lighter and denser, and able to pack more power into a smaller footprint, it’s also studier. Imagine a waterbed and a typical mattress. If an object forcibly falls onto a waterbed, the risk of leakage (and flooding the room where it sits) is high. A solid mattress can withstand more damage without ruin. Current Li-ion batteries are prone to swelling caused by temperature changes and can certainly leak in a crash. Solid state batteries are known to be less prone to fires and more stable for features like quick charging.

Current lithium ion batteries versus solid states

Solid state batteries will offer more than just expanded range and increased stability. Many EVs today use a familiar “skateboard-type” architecture (an expansive sheet of lithium-ion battery packs placed neatly below the cabin floor between either axle), AutoPacific analyst Robby DeGraff tells PopSci. Moving to smaller, more-efficient SSBs affects the construction of the whole vehicle.

“Shifting to solid-state batteries could mean we’ll see new possibilities of further maximizing interior space and a bit more flexibility when it comes to drafting an EV’s overall shape itself,” DeGraff says. “When solid-state batteries are ready for primetime use, I think that’s going to be a turning point in the ongoing migration towards EVs. Solid-state batteries will likely address one of the biggest hesitations consumers may have committing to going all-electric: range anxiety.”

SSBs charge quicker too, which is another roadblock in the adoption of EVs. For automakers, these batteries have the potential to open up new doors when it comes to designing an EV, as solid-state battery packs are much more packable, compact, and safe.

According to Brussels-based group European Federation for Transport and Environment, SSBs also have the potential to reduce the carbon footprint of EV batteries by up to 39 percent compared with liquid lithium-ion batteries. The Federation says that although making solid state batteries would use up to 35 percent more lithium than the current lithium-ion technology, it would also need less graphite and cobalt.

What’s taking so long?

“In chemical products, like batteries, it is often much easier to make small battery sizes in small numbers in a lab; mass production of larger products is much more difficult,” Martin explains. “Honda began the process of developing all solid state battery technology nearly 10 years ago, and we anticipate that it will still take more time to achieve mass production at Honda’s exacting quality standard.”

Martin says Honda is making progress and will invest approximately 43 billion yen (nearly $300 million USD) to establish a pilot production line in Tochigi, Japan to produce solid-state batteries, aiming to introduce EVs with all solid state batteries into the market in the second half of this decade.

How Mobile Apps Can Change The E

We live in the internet age. The internet is able to handle most of our day-to-day activities, from checking email in the morning to ordering dinner in the evening. The internet’s business benefits are even more impressive than you might think.

An app is a must-have for any E-Commerce business owner. An app can help you reach the right audience and beat your competitors.

Enhanced User Experience

Your priority is your users. You can make it easy for them to communicate with you through your app. You can include the following features in your app to make it easier.

Camera- Let’s say you own a fashion eCommerce store. You allow your customers to share their apparel on social networks for marketing purposes. You will need to allow the camera to be used through your app. This feature is more popular if more people use it.

This feature is available in many food logistics apps, as well as shopping apps. This feature eliminates the need to add the shipping address. It can be used to help users locate the closest branch of your company.

Voice Search — People like the simplest ways to do things and voice search allows them to do that. Voice search allows users to speak and get what they want using voice search.

Conversion Rates are Boosted

Your audience will convert into customers if you have a great UX and easy navigation. Apps offer a huge conversion rate with 3x more returns than mobile websites, and almost 1.5x lower costs than desktop sites.

Users who use an app rather than a website enjoy exploring more products.

Lesser Shopping Cart Abandonments

A report shows that the average cart abandonment rate is 67.91%. Shopping cart abandonment is the first issue in an E-Commerce company’s list. Many customers add their favorite items to the cart, then abandon them when they are done. Why? It could be the additional charges or the complicated navigation process. When other businesses offer a simple navigation system, people don’t want to go that extra mile when shopping.

A mobile app can solve this problem. An app makes navigation easy and lowers abandonment rates.

Push Notifications

Push notifications allow you to notify your users about new products, sales, and other information right from their phones. You should not bombard your users with notifications that could cause them to uninstall your app.

The success of any mobile application depends on push notifications. It is important to discuss this issue with your app development company. This feature is simple and will increase brand awareness, as well as give users a reason to return to your app again and again.

Improved Usability

Although it is easy to build an app, it is more difficult than building one that offers strong features and an excellent user experience. Improved usability will make your business stand out to customers who download and use your app.

Your app should take no more than three seconds to load. If it takes longer, users may abandon it. App load time, as well as navigation, should be fast and flexible.

To Wrap Up

A mobile app can increase conversions and sales, as we have already mentioned. It’s not enough to have an app, but having a well-built one is equally important. Your app should have the ability to retain your users and convert them into customers.
